Neville reads out a letter received that week from a 59-year-old woman who described a recurrent dream of preparing for an exam, eyeless faces like Michelangelo's paintings, a smiling infant, and a vivid dream of her son; he interprets it as the coming great exam before the Risen Christ.

Neville reads a letter describing a dream a correspondent had within the past week: he found himself driving down Beverly Boulevard facing backward yet keeping his car perfectly in its lane, ignoring a police car alongside gesturing for him to turn around. Only when he swerved into the wrong lane on La Cienega, having briefly turned to look ahead, did a policeman pull him over -- telling him not to mind where he had been but to look where he was going -- and just as the ticket was about to be handed over, the man woke, drawing from it the lesson that waking saves you money.

From the same correspondent, a dream of the past week: he drove down Beverly Boulevard looking backwards, ignored a gesturing policeman, made a wrong-lane turn at La Cienega, and the policeman told him not to mind looking where he had been but to look where he was going; he woke before the ticket was handed over.

Neville received a short letter from a woman present in the audience who woke, wrote down a sentence heard from the depths, and then dreamed of two handkerchiefs, one absorbing mucous and one merely accepting a marble.

Neville read out a long letter from a distant correspondent who dreamed of a wonderful man of infinite love in her house, of gifts of star-shaped crystal, and of fighting her way back to him through a market place with a heavy stick.

He reads a third letter of the same week: a dream of a rummage sale of watches and perfumes in which a clerk says 'Neville donated this one' and that looking into it will heal her eyes.

He reads a letter from a lady who, after his November 22nd lecture, heard a voice repeating 'You are the apple of my eye', and two nights later heard 'In God there is no black or white, Jew or Christian', whereupon Ben (present in the audience) and her neighbour Frieda appeared and each declared themselves God.
