A close friend of Neville's, one who has had the birth, the fatherhood and the ascent, described a vision of standing in a vast underground cavern beside a highway and a forty-foot excavation, where a beautiful man directing a machine told him he could not add to the foundation and then took his smudged, unreadable affidavit saying he could read it.

A seventy-two-year-old woman wrote to Neville describing a dream in which she was ten again and had her father copy a memorised verse into her autograph book; the verse was afterwards found written in an old autograph book by her third grade teacher. She also told him of a four-year-old neighbour boy who said he had always known her.

A friend of Neville's who teaches at UCLA told him a dream in which a teacher he despised turned out to be the great examiner; as he wrote his name, Monday and the time 4:10 at the head of the exam he heard a voice quote 'Not everyone who says Lord, Lord enters in.'

He recounts, in the first person and insisting it is a true story, a man accused in court whose own attorney whispered that he had no chance, who shut out the evidence and heard only the foreman say 'We find the defendant not guilty' — and was acquitted with costs charged to his accuser.

He relates what a writer he admires but has never met said about critics never agreeing, and that writer's report of Yeats saying he never writes for the reader but only sets down what his character tells him — as Shakespeare was educated by his own characters.

He repeats what Lord Lindsay of an Oxford college told a group of ministers: that arguing for Christianity from the pulpit is a mistake and they should instead witness to whether the thing works.

A woman wrote to Neville describing a vision in which a being cursed her unspeakably and, asked why, replied "Because I want you!"; Neville answers her from the platform, explaining the curse as a personified religious institution losing her.

Neville reads a letter from his friend Bennie, who was lifted from his bed and told to 'Take a stand', later saw the sun rise while held by three men, recalled a passage from Neville's book, and then successfully prayed for a friend to get a property manager's job.

Neville reads a third letter, from a man who imagined two zeros in the balance-due column of his bank loan record and received an unprecedented mid-year company bonus large enough to clear his debts; he then spent the surplus on a tape recorder to record Neville's message.

Neville says those who first hated him for taking away their idol of Jesus - some insulting, some violent - have become his finest students.
