The State of Vision

“We have only to raise Imagination to the state of Vision and the thing is done.” Just imagine it! That is all you and I are required to do. No matter what it is we desire, we have only to raise imagination to the state of vision, and the thing is done! Now, when the prophets of old used the word vision in scripture, they meant all of the senses, either individually or in combination. The Book of Isaiah begins: “The visions of Isaiah, the son of Amoz. Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the Lord has spoken.” And the Book of Obadiah states: “The visions of Obadiah. Thus sayeth the Lord God.” Here we find the visions are audio; but scripture records visions of sight, sound, scent, taste, and touch. The last chapter of the Book of Job reads: “I have heard of thee with the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees thee.” Imagination must be raised to the sense of sight in order to see.416 ¶1

The sense of sound seems to be the most popular in scripture, yet in the story of Jacob it is the sense of touch. Isaac, Jacob’s father, was blind and could not see. His twin brother, Esau, was the first out of the womb. He was covered with hair and - because of his birth - had the right of inheritance by law. Jacob, who followed his brother, was a smooth-skinned lad, who deceived his father through the sense of touch. Killing one of his father’s flock, he wrapped the skin around his arm, and when his father touched him, he felt its reality and gave Jacob the right of birth.416 ¶2

This is not a story of a man who was blind, or of two sons that came out of the womb of a woman. This drama unfolds from within. Esau is the world you know by your reason and senses. The room you are now in is your Esau, while your subjective desire is your Jacob. Wearing garments of hair, Esau is the outer, objective world, which Jacob, your desire, is seeking to replace. As Isaac - the father - you have the power to give reality to your desired, subjective state. Invite it to come near, that you may feel it, to know whether it is as real as your outer world is. Isaac chose the sense of touch rather than that of sound, adding the sense of smell, saying: “You smell like Esau.” Using these two senses, Isaac granted Jacob the right to become an objective fact.416 ¶3

So when Blake tells us that if we will raise imagination to the state of vision the thing is done, he is speaking of vision in any one, or a combination of the five senses. Perhaps the sense of hearing is most developed in you. If so, you can single out a voice and hear it with such clarity that you can become self-persuaded its words are true. Your sense of hearing can be developed to the degree that you can shut out all other senses and believe in what you are hearing. When the words take on the tones of reality and you are self-persuaded that it is so, the event has been impregnated upon you; and what do you do after impregnation? Nothing! You simply carry the knowledge that in its normal, natural time, that which you heard so clearly will be born.416 ¶4

No two eggs have the same interval of time between their fertilization and hatching out. I do not know how long it will take for your desire to become an objective fact. I only know that when imagination is raised to the state of vision - be it sight, sound, scent, taste or touch - the thing is done!416 ¶5

I know a very fine artist (whose works are in national galleries) who was starving, and didn’t have a dime with which to buy food. One night she was so tired she couldn’t even walk to the YWCA to offer her services for a meal. Instead, she stretched out on her couch and said: “Lord, you said if I but believed, all things would be possible. Well, I believe that I am well fed.” In relating this story to me, this lady added this comment: “I didn’t actually hear the words audibly, but received an impression which was: ‘If you really believed as you claim, wouldn’t you prepare the table for the meal?’ With that, she began to set the table in her imagination. She put on her best tablecloth, her nicest plates, and even lit a candle, in preparation of the food to come. Then she fell asleep and began to dream.”416 ¶6

As she lifted the cover from a beautiful platter, she heard a ring which persisted until she awoke to realize it was her telephone. The caller was a friend of her mother’s whom she hadn’t seen for years. The lady said: “Suddenly I have the greatest longing for a meal you prepared for your mother and me several years ago. Would you please do it again tonight if I bring over the ingredients?” Now, although this lady had a kitchen in her apartment, she had no food in it, so when the friend went to the store she couldn’t buy a cup of flour or sugar, but stocked up on all the basics needed to prepare a meal. Within an hour she was in the artist’s home with the food, and a short time later they sat down to a delicious dinner, of which - when the meal was finished - there was enough left over for at least two more meals.416 ¶7

Although this lady is a great artist, she has developed the sense of touch. She fell asleep touching the plates and the silver, and awoke touching the cover to a platter filled with food. Her experience is dramatized in scripture as the story of Isaac.416 ¶8

In order to understand scripture, it is necessary to see it with the eyes of the mystic. Blake asked: “Why is the Bible more entertaining and more instructive than any other book? Because it is addressed to the Imagination, which is spiritual sensation, and only immediately to the understanding, or reason.” When you touch something spiritually, you are receiving a sensation that your outer senses deny. And when you use your imagination, you are touching with the hands of Jacob, seeing with the eyes of Jacob, and hearing with Jacob’s ears.416 ¶9

In the 115th Psalm, the psalmist tells us our Lord does everything we do. Then he compares the Lord to the gods of the world, saying: “Their gods are made of silver and gold. They have mouths but speak not, eyes but see not, ears but hear not, feet but walk not, hands but feel not. Those who make them are like them, and so is everyone who trusts in them.” Anyone who trusts some little thing a man made with his hands, that can’t talk, hear, walk or feel, has a false God and a false Jesus Christ. Made with human hands, it cannot utter a sound or hear your request. It cannot answer you, see, hear, or walk. It is merely something made with human hands; and those who trust in it are just like the thing made, because they are unwilling to exercise the inner man - called Jacob in the Old Testament and Jesus Christ in the New.416 ¶10

Begin now to exercise Jacob by sending Esau out into the fields. Then clothe Jacob with the tones of reality by exercising one or all five of your inner senses. If you will become self-persuaded that your desire is already granted, even though it is denied by the outer senses, it will become a fact. I do not know how it will objectify itself, or when; I only know that when imagination is raised to the state of vision, the thing is done.416 ¶11

Because Blake made these bold assertions, people question why he wasn’t rich; but Blake had no desire for fame or enormous sums of money. At that time, the king of England was George the Third. He was a madman and remembered only because of the fact that he was king during the time of our revolution against England. People of great wealth and fame lived during Blake’s lifetime, but are forgotten now, while Blake grows in stature and simply dwarfs everyone in his age.416 ¶12

Blake had no money. He was non-schooled by human standards. Teaching himself Latin, French, and Italian, Blake was a master in the use of the English tongue. This giant of a man had no human luxuries, but he didn’t need them as he was busy doing the work of God. Blake claimed that the world was vision, confessing that his greatest work, “Jerusalem”, was given to him by dictation. He didn’t see Jerusalem, he heard it. The words were dictated by the Spirit of God, yet Blake called it his greatest vision.416 ¶13

Perhaps the sense of feeling is easy for you. If so, be like Isaac and touch your desire to see if it is Esau (real) or not. When reality was touched, Isaac said: “You have the smell of Esau; therefore the blessing is yours.” Why? Because it seemed real to him. Money has an odor all of its own. Blindfold yourself and smell a dozen different pieces of paper. Make one of them a dollar, five-, or ten-dollar bill, and the moment it reaches your nose you will know it is money, for there is something different about it. Everything has an odor.416 ¶14

My brother Victor is a successful businessman. When I questioned him about his success, he said: “I love the odor of business. When I open the store in the morning, I love the smell emitting there.” I walked around the store with him and didn’t care a thing about the odor; but I can open a book of Blake’s and be lost to the world for the rest of the afternoon. When I was in Barbados recently, I shared one of Blake’s letters with Victor. I so thoroughly enjoyed the reading I tasted every delicious word, but the message meant nothing to my brother. He uses his talents in a different way.416 ¶15

Choose the medium best for you and use it. Sound seems to be the easiest for many, yet if you love someone you will know the touch of their flesh and odor. If man didn’t have a distinctive odor, how could a bloodhound find him? We think only in terms of the skunk ring, and know it can be used against a man because it is unique; but there is no dubious odor. There is no dubious voice. A voice can be imitated; but if recorded, its graph would not be like the original. You are unique, and when you love someone dearly you know their voice and what they feel like, and if you are close to them, you know their odor. Share the news of your good fortune with them. Hear them empathize with you. Listen to their voice carefully and revel in what you are hearing. Believe in what you have heard, and you have impregnated yourself with the message.416 ¶16

A friend recently cured his skin cancers through the use of sound. Every morning as he shaved the evidence remained. But using his sense of hearing, he listened to the voices of his friends as they congratulated him on his complete cure. He did not put his hand to his face and feel its smoothness. He could feel and see what was there, but he persisted in hearing his friends’ empathy - and one day the cancers were gone.416 ¶17

I urge everyone to try it. It costs you nothing. Blake had a friend named Samuel Farmer, to whom he made this fantastic statement: “Raise Imagination to the state of vision and the thing is done.” You can do it by using any sense, either individually or collectively. You can imagine seeing and hearing at the same time. You can look as though you see, and listen as though you hear; but you determine what you want to see and hear. Bring them together. See and hear only your fulfilled desire, and watch the evidence unfold in your world.416 ¶18

When scripture tells us that God sees the heart, it is not speaking of the physical heart, but the individual’s identity. The Fourth Psalm tells you to “Commune with your own heart on your bed and be silent.” In other words, talk to yourself! This self is a totality, for your feelings, thoughts, desires, and motives are always exposed to yourself, who is God the Father! You may conceal thoughts from those who are enclosed in garments of flesh and blood, but not from the depth of your own being! Scripture tells us that the Lord rejected all of the brothers and chose David, saying: “He is a man after my own heart who will do all my will.” David is the one who fulfills all of your thoughts, feelings, desires, and motives - always doing your will.416 ¶19

Scripture will only be understood when it is seen through the eye of the mystic. Let us take the statement: “Be angry, but sin not. Commune with your own heart and be silent.” If you have something against someone, explode and get it off your chest. Then commune with yourself by calming down and constructing a scene which would imply everything was perfect in your life. Fall into the depth of self, using as many of your senses as possible to achieve the vision you desire to appear. You can raise any sense - be it hearing, sight, sound, touch or smell - to the state of vision.416 ¶20

I was drafted into the army during World War II, but I wanted no part of it. When my request for a discharge was disapproved, I did not get angry and try to go over the colonel’s head. Instead, I lay down on my army cot, closed my eyes to the other fifty men in the room, and imagined I was two thousand miles away in my apartment above Washington Square in New York City. Placing myself on my bed, I saw my wife sleeping in hers. Then I rose, and looking out the window, I saw the Holly Apartments across the street and Washington Square down below. Turning, I walked into the living room, dining room, and the kitchen. I felt familiar objects and brought as many of my five senses alive in the drama as possible.416 ¶21

At 4:00 o’clock in the morning I awoke hearing a voice say, “That which I have done, I have done. Do nothing.” Who spoke those words? I did, but I heard them as coming from without. Knowing what I had done and what I had said, I walked in faith for nine days, doing nothing on the outside. On the tenth day the colonel who had rejected my application called me into his office and gave me an honorable discharge.416 ¶22

I brought feeling up to the state of vision. By feeling the bed and the various objects in the apartment, I fell asleep feeling the joy of being there. The colonel thought he initiated the desire to discharge me, but he had no choice in the matter. I imagined, knowing the world was my imagination pushed out, and everyone in it had to do what they are doing to aid the birth of what I had done.416 ¶23

Knowing what you ought to do is not good enough; you must raise your imagination to the state of vision in order for the act to be committed. Then what must you do? Nothing! You simply watch the series of events unfold within your world. Remember, you operate your creative power, it does not operate itself. There must be action, a commitment on your part.416 ¶24

Nothing, however, can be done to earn God’s gift of grace. When God’s promise fulfills itself, it happens suddenly and so dramatically that you have no time to think about it. In fact, you will not even recognize it, unless you hear it from someone who has experienced it. I know, as far as I am concerned, I never heard it from a man, or saw the Bible’s story as relating to me. But I know from experience that the truth comes through an act of God in self revelation, for God is hidden in the mind of man and unveils himself as man!416 ¶25

Start now to exercise your God-given talents of sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell - together, or individually. The sense of touch is the strongest in me. If someone expresses their desire to me in a letter, I touch the paper they wrote, believing they are telling me of their desire’s fulfillment. I know only one out of ten ever respond after I have granted their request, but that is all right. Having felt their letter and seen its contents, I know I have impregnated myself with the good fortunes they are desiring, and in so doing, my own captivity is being lifted.416 ¶26

Right now, give something to a friend without their knowledge or consent. You have your five senses! Exercise them by bringing the objective body of Jacob to the surface. Clothe him in external reality as the Esau you would like to replace, vanishes. What you have is your Esau. Your desire is Jacob. You are their father. Raise imagination to the state of vision and allow Jacob to supplant Esau. Then rest in that assumption and watch the change which takes place in your wonderful world!416 ¶27

Now let us go into the silence.416 ¶28

Raise Imagination to the State of Vision

Blake said, “We have only to raise Imagination to the state of vision and the thing is done.” Just imagine it’s all that you and I have to do…to raise Imagination to the state of vision and the thing is done. Anything, no matter what it is. When Blake used the word vision, he used it as the prophets of old used it in scripture. It’s not confined to the single sense of sight but takes in all the senses, either individually or in combinations. When we open the Bible and see the Book of Isaiah, it begins, “The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz… Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the Lord has spoken” . Here, vision is now sound, it’s audio. In the Book of Obadiah: “The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord God…” Again it is sound . You can take it in touch…sight, sound, scent, taste or touch. Possibly the most difficult…we follow the Book of Job…to raise Imagination to the state of vision would be the sense of sight…when he said, “I had heard of thee with the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees thee.” That is the very last chapter, the 42nd of Job . But you do not have to raise it to the state of sight to get the results; you can raise it to the state of sound. That seems to be the most popular in scripture.415 ¶1

Yes, in the story of Jacob and his father Isaac it was the sense of touch. We are told that he was blind and he could not see, and the first out of the womb was Esau. Although they were twins the first one out was Esau, and therefore he had the right of inheritance by law. But Jacob, who was the smooth-skinned lad, to deceive his father through the sense of touch killed one of the flock of his father and took the skin and put it on his hands, and came towards the father. Now, the drama unfolds within us. This is not a man who is blind with two sons that came out of the womb of his wife. No, the whole drama is unfolding in us. My Esau is the objective world that I know by reason of my senses. This room now is my Esau, it’s your Esau. But if I desire to be elsewhere or to see other than what I am seeing, what I desire which is now subjective for the moment is my Jacob. Now, can I use the same technique to supplant what I am experiencing with my outer senses? So Jacob comes clothed in the garments of the outer world; he puts on hairy garments, which is what Esau had at birth. So the outer world is Esau, the inner world is Jacob. But Jacob desires to become objective…so your desire, your longing is seeking some objective existence. And you are the one to grant it, for you are now the Isaac, the father consciousness that can give reality to an unseen subjective state. So when he comes, he said, “Come near, that I may feel you, my son, to know whether you are really my son Esau or not” . Then he said to him, “You have the voice that is the voice of Jacob, but you feel like my son Esau.” In other words, you have the feeling of Esau. Now here, the sense of sound was not equal to his sense of touch, so he had developed the sense of touch beyond that of sound. Others develop sound beyond that of touch, and the last would be that of sight. But in this he said, “You smell the smell of Esau” and that’s when he had the smell and the touch, and he granted him the birthright. He granted him that which belonged to objective reality and gave him the right to become an objective fact in the world.415 ¶2

So here, when Blake tells us that we have only to raise Imagination to the state of vision and the thing is done, he is using the word vision as it is used in the Bible. Now you know better than anyone else which sense is most developed in you. Some can hear the voice of a person and no matter where they are, in a crowd, all kinds of voices, single out that unseen voice that may be a thousand miles or ten thousand miles away, and tune it in, in spite of the noise and carry on a conversation with that unseen, unheard voice (unheard by anyone else) and have that one tell him or tell her what they want to hear. Can you become self-persuaded of the reality of what you are hearing? Regardless of what your senses, the other four, are dictating you ignore it, and bring one in and then let it overpower all the others. And you’re only going to hear what you want to hear. Well now, some have developed hearing to such a point that they can exclude all the others and let it overpower them, and believe in the reality of what they are hearing, so that what they imagine that they are hearing takes on all the tones of reality, all the sensory vividness of reality. And when they are self-persuaded this is so, they do nothing about its birth. Birth takes place naturally after this impregnation.415 ¶3

It’s just like a pregnancy. What do you do after you become aware that you are pregnant? You do nothing to aid it, you simply bear it, and then its normal natural time comes and it’s born in the world. No two eggs seem to have the same interval of time between fertilization and hatching out, so I do not know how long it takes any individual having once become impregnated through any medium. It could be through sight, through sound, through scent, through taste or through touch. But whatever you use to impregnate self…for if I could only become self-persuaded that a thing is as I desire it to be, using any sense to impregnate me, well then, the thing is done. So I raise Imagination to the state of vision and then the thing is done.415 ¶4

Now here is an artist. You would think certainly she would have sight. She is a fine artist and her works are in our national galleries. During the Depression she just didn’t have one dime, literally, not a dime. She said, “I was so exhausted I couldn’t even walk to the Y.W.C.A. and offer my services for a meal. It was too far to walk and I didn’t have the strength, so I stretched out on the couch and I said, ‘Lord, you said if you but believe all things are possible. Well, I believe, I believe that I am well fed.’” Here, she is starving, she has nothing. Then she said, “I didn’t actually hear words audibly, but I got an impression, and the impression was this: If you really believe as you now say that you believe, wouldn’t you prepare the table? If you say that you actually believe, wouldn’t you have the table prepared for the meal?” She said, “While stretched on the couch, in my Imagination I put out the best things that I had…even to the lighting of a candle…all in my Imagination…and prepared for the reception, to receive the good that is coming. And then I fell asleep from sheer exhaustion. Next thing I knew in my dream I’m dreaming I’m lifting the cover from a lovely big silver platter, and as I’m lifting the cover it begins to ring, it’s actually ringing. Then it dawned on me the telephone is ringing, and so I got up—it’s all a dream—and I answered the phone and a friend…I hadn’t seen this lady in twenty years; in fact, the last time I saw here was at my mother’s funeral. She and my mother were very close and dear friends. She said over the phone, “Suddenly I have a longing for a certain meal that you prepared years ago for your mother and for me. For some unknown reason I would love to have that or something similar. Could you do it for me?” And she said to the lady, “Willingly! I have the facilities for cooking, but I do not use them because I’m using it only as a studio.” The reason why she didn’t use them, she had no money to buy anything. So she had the facilities, but no money and not a thing in the cupboards. The lady said, “Tell me the ingredients and I’ll bring them over right away.” So she itemized all the things she needed for whatever she wanted for this dish.415 ¶5

Well, you can’t go into a store and buy, say, a cupful of flour, you buy a pound at least. Maybe two pounds is the smallest package that they put out. Same is true of spaghetti or anything of that nature. You simply go and buy the smallest amount which is still far in excess of what you would need to prepare a meal for two people. But the lady simply went in and bought everything that this lady, this artist, gave her. Within the hour here came the car, and she went out to help her, and brought in all this food. Well, it took another hour and a half or so to prepare it. She said, “I have a cat that I really thought went insane. It hadn’t detected the odor of food in our place in so long that it went wild. I had to put it out, and it jumped up on the window from the outside, and the lady said, ‘What’s wrong with the cat?’ I didn’t have the courage to tell her it hadn’t had food in this house for the longest while. I found scraps form the garbage pails for it. I’d go down the street and get scraps to feed my cat. Here, after an hour and a half, the meal was ready. She not only sat down and thoroughly enjoyed it with her friend, but there would be enough left over for at least two more weeks. Because you can’t use all that is brought in when only two people are going to dine.415 ¶6

Now she…although she’s an artist and her work hangs in the galleries of our country, she had developed the sense of touch, the tactile sense, beyond anything that she had seemingly as an artist, such as using the eyes. So she could actually feel…she could feel that thing, and then she heard the bell ring. But she went to bed touching the plates, touching the candle, lighting it, and doing all the things with the sense of touch. And that is the story of Isaac. But every one is dramatized in scripture…you can do it with any one.415 ¶7

When you read scripture you’ve got to see it through the eyes of the mystic or you wouldn’t understand it. Blake said, “Why is the Bible more entertaining and more instructive than any other book?” Then he answers his own question, “Is it not because it is addressed to the Imagination, which is spiritual sensation, and only immediately to the understanding or reason?” Spiritual sensation! That’s spiritual sensation…you’re feeling what the outer senses at the moment cannot feel. So you’re touching something that is denied by the outer sense of touch, which is Esau. You’re touching it with the hand of Jacob, you’re seeing something with the eyes of Jacob, and you’re hearing something with the ears of Jacob.415 ¶8

So, here in the 115th Psalm the psalmist is now speaking of our Lord, “Our Lord who does everything that pleases him” . There is nothing in this world that he can’t do. He does everything! Whatever it is that pleases him he can do it. Then he compares it to the gods of the world. He said, “Their gods are made of silver and gold. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes, but they see not. They have ears, but they hear not; they have feet, but they do not walk. They have hands but they feel not. And those who make them are just like them; and also those who trust in them” .415 ¶9

So anyone who has an external some little thing that can’t talk, something on the wall, you go and light a candle and put it before some little thing that some man made with his hands and you pray to it. Can it speak? Can it utter anything? Can it hear your voice when you speak to it and ask and make your request? No it can’t. It cannot answer you, it cannot speak, it cannot see, it cannot hear, it cannot walk. It is simply something made with the human hand. Yet people trust it…and they are just as foolish as the thing they made. That’s what the 115th Psalm is telling you. They’re just like them. They haven’t exercised the internal man that is Jacob. And Jacob is in the line of Jesus Christ; it isn’t Esau. It’s the internal man that you begin to exercise. This then becomes the new man, and you bring him to the surface by the exercise of the senses. But any one of them that dominates the others can be used as the one to impregnate yourself.415 ¶10

So does it mean that a self-persuasion, though denied by the senses, will become a fact? Yes, if I can persuade myself of the reality of that which at the moment my senses deny, it will become a fact. I do nothing to make it so. It’s simply I’ve become self-impregnated; and now that that has taken place I am pregnant, and then the birth will take place in the most normal, natural way. And when I reflect upon it, it seemed as though it would have happened anyway. It seemed because so many people aided the birth seemingly, well, they would have done it anyway. And it isn’t so!415 ¶11

And so, when he made this bold assertion, someone would say, “Well, why wasn’t he rich?” Not everyone wants wealth. Blake was quite satisfied to live as he lived. He had no desire for fame, no desire for enormous sums of money. And people will say, “Well, why wasn’t he rich”…as though that is the epitome of everything in the world. Those who were known in his day, 200-odd years ago, they’re completely unknown today. The king of England was a madman, George the third, and he’s only known by reason of the fact that it was our revolution against England. If he didn’t reign at the time that we rebelled against England, no one would know who George III was. Name his predecessor, name his successor. He’s only known by reason that he reigned during that time…and he was as mad as a hatter. But name the other people at the same time. And Blake grows and grows in stature. He just simply dwarfs everyone of his day…and he had no money. He was unschooled by human standards…he taught himself. All of the languages he learned…he learned Latin himself, never went to school, taught himself Greek. He taught himself all the Latin tongues like French, Italian, Spanish and he was a master in the use of the English tongue. Here was this giant of a man who had none of the so-called opportunities of the world. But he didn’t seek them; he was always busy about God’s work.415 ¶12

So, when he used the word “vision” he isn’t confining it to sight…that you might think, well now, the whole vast world is vision to him. Well, if the whole vast world is vision to Blake and his greatest work by his own confession was Jerusalem, and he tells us that it was given to him by immediate dictation, therefore it came through the medium of sound. He didn’t see Jerusalem, he heard it. The words were dictated by the spirit of love, but he still called it a vision. He said, “It’s the greatest vision, this poem called Jerusalem.”415 ¶13

So tonight, I do not know which is the easiest for you, but whatever is easiest use it. Let it dominate the other four. See if you can blend, as Isaac blended, scent with touch. “Come close so I may feel to see whether you really are my son Esau or not” and he came close and he could feel him. Then he said he smelled the smell of Esau, therefore he pronounced the blessing. It seemed real to him…if I smell the smell of Esau it seems real. Do you know you can smell money and it’s unlike any other odor in the world? Try it. Take a dollar bill or a five dollar bill or whatever you have and hold it to your nose. Blindfold yourself. Let someone else do it. Let them bring it here and you can smell it. You can actually smell it, there’s something different about it. And so, everything has an odor.415 ¶14

My brother, for instance, who was a huge success in business, I said, “Why do you like it?” He said, “I like the odor, the odor of business” and he called it an odor. He said, “When I come down to the store in the morning to open that door and get the things, the produce coming in, I just love the odor. I would go down just to satisfy myself…I want to run.” He loved everything that I didn’t. He made a huge success in dollars and cents in the world of Caesar, but that excites him, and that odor doesn’t excite me at all. I’ll open up a book, say of Blake…and last year when I was home he came through the lobby of the hotel, he said, “What are you reading?” I said, “I’m reading Blake. Listen to this…” I read him one of the letters of Blake. He just simply smiled a vacuous smile; there was no interest whatsoever. In other words, what is he talking about? Well, that was my odor and to me the words themselves began to almost take on a taste. As far as I’m concerned I could taste them…they tasted so good I wanted to read it. My brother Victor, they meant nothing to him. But he’s a huge success. He uses his in a different way. He will use vision as he’s done it and he will use the sense of smell…the very odor of business excites him.415 ¶15

So whatever excites you, whichever medium is the best to you, use it. I think from what I have heard from those who come to see me that sound seems to be the easiest. They can single out the voice of someone and they can hear that voice. That seems to be the easiest. Yet, if you love someone, you can’t deny you can tell their feel, their touch over any other touch in the world. If you love someone, you know exactly how their flesh feels and no one can fool you as to that flesh. It’s different from the other three and a half billion people in the world…it’s something altogether different. And they have an odor. If you didn’t have a distinctive odor, how could a bloodhound find you? Your odor is not like any other odor in the world. We think only in terms of the thumbprint, and we know that is used against a man and could send him to the electric chair because it’s unique, there is no duplicate. There is no duplicate odor. There is no duplicate, actual duplicate voice. Oh, people could take your voice and imitate it, and it’s good enough to fool some people, but if you saw it on the graph, exactly what it looks like, it’s not like what you’re trying to imitate, so that no two people have the same voice. You are unique in this world and if you love someone dearly you know their voice and you know what they feel like and you know their odor if you are that close to them. Their odor is distinctive. And the whole vast world is just like that.415 ¶16

So if you want to use them to impregnate you, in the sense that they are sharing your good fortune with you, and they’re empathizing, and they are telling you how thrilled they are because of your good fortune. Listen to their voice tell you how they feel because you are what you want to be…and revel in what you are hearing. Now believe in that and let it impregnate you. So you use them for that purpose…male or female or a bunch of them.415 ¶17

Here in this audience tonight, I told the story of this gentleman who had these skin cancers. He used sound. He said…watching his face in the mirror as he shaves and there they’re still on his face, but he’s hearing the voice of friends congratulating him on his good fortune. In spite of the evidence that denies it, he is still hearing what he wants to hear. And then they disappeared leaving not a trace of ever having been present. So he used sound. He didn’t put his hand on his face and feel these things, for as he passed the razor over his face he felt and he saw what was there. But he did something entirely different, he heard a voice and the voice congratulated him on his good fortune. They empathized with him and as they empathized—not sympathized, he had enough of that, they were empathizing—and then the whole thing began to disappear. So all I can say to everyone, try it. It costs you nothing and it seems too good to be true, but nevertheless try it!415 ¶18

This is what Blake meant as he left it…it was a conversation he had with one called Samuel Palmer and to Samuel Palmer he made this statement. I think it a fantastic statement, that all we have to do is simply “to raise Imagination to the state of vision and the thing is done.” Well, you can raise it by using any sense to raise it to the point of vision, knowing that vision includes all the senses, either individually or in combinations. You can just imagine you see, and at the same time imagine you hear, and blend the two together. They together produce what you are imagining that you’re seeing and imagine that you are hearing. So, look as though you see, listen as though you hear. But you determine what you want to see and what you want to hear. Don’t argue. Just in advance do exactly what you want to see and exactly what you want to hear. Now bring them together and see and hear only what you want to see and hear, and see how it unfolds itself in this world…no matter what the world will tell you.415 ¶19

So here, you will find it all through scripture. For instance, in scripture you read so much about the heart, that God sees the heart, and you might think it means the heart, physical heart. Hasn’t a thing to do with that. The word “self” is a precise synonym for “heart” in scripture. Here, we find in the 17th chapter of Genesis, “…and Abraham talked in his heart.” Well, it means Abraham only talked with himself, that’s all that it means. In the 4th Psalm, “Commune with your own heart on your bed and be still”…commune with yourself. So heart is simply self. Self in scripture means “the totality of one’s feelings, one’s thoughts, one’s desires, one’s motives,” and it’s always exposed to God the Father. You can’t conceal it from the garment. You can conceal it from me and from those who are all clothed in garments of flesh and blood, by you can’t conceal it from the depth of your own soul who is God the Father. So the deep of your own being knows your thoughts, your feelings, your desires and your motives behind those things. You can come forward and lie to me in words and put on such a wonderful show that I am taken in, but you aren’t hiding it from the depths of your own being.415 ¶20

So when someone comes before the Lord, he said, “I’ve rejected him, he is not my choice” and he rejects all the brothers and chooses David, “a man after my own heart”—meaning a man after my own self—“who will do all my will” . That’s what it means. But it is translated as “heart,” and the world will think, well now, he’s looking at my heart. No, he’s looking at me, the totality of my being, all of my thoughts and my feelings, and my motives behind my thoughts and feelings. And so when you read it, you’ve got to see it through the eye of the mystic.415 ¶21

Just know as you read it, it doesn’t mean this…what is behind communion with my own heart and then be still. I go to bed…and it starts off, “Be angry but sin not.” Be angry. Get it off your chest. You have something against someone, explode it. If it’s going to help you any, explode it; but don’t sin now, don’t continue it, just get it off. Now come down and construct a scene which will imply the fulfillment of your desire. After you’ve exploded, just what do you really want to find? Construct it. Now commune with yourself while you’re on your bed and then be still and drop into the deep. Like this lady who dropped into the deep and then she was awakened by the telephone, but she was lifting the cover from a huge, lovely silver platter, just about to expose what was on the platter when she discovered it was the phone ringing. And it was under that platter. Because it took another hour and a half or two hours, but she did sit down to a wonderful feast. And more than that, there was enough left over to carry her forward for another, well say, ten days to two weeks.415 ¶22

Well, this is what I’m talking about, that you can take this simple, simple principle and apply it towards any end in this world by simply taking your Imagination, just raising your Imagination to the state of vision, using the sense that dominates the others in your case. I doubt that it would be sight in a majority. That seems to come last where you become so intent that suddenly you walk into the scene just like this and you’re seeing it. But, before you do that, you can bring it in through hearing, bring it in through touch.415 ¶23

When I was completely shut out, in the Army…and when you go into the Army they…it’s unlike today’s Army where we are not at war, so they say, and so when you’re drafted they send you off to Vietnam. But you have a certain length of time to serve and then you are sent back when your service is over. But in the 2nd World War, or the 1st when you’re drafted you’re in for the duration. Well, I was drafted, so I was in for the duration. When I made up my mind that I wanted no part of Army life, I didn’t go beyond the normal, natural thing that Caesar allows me to do: I requested a discharge. In four hours my request came back to me signed “disapproved” by the colonel of my battalion. Awfully nice chap, grand fellow, but he disapproved my request and that was final. You could not appeal it to any higher echelon. I couldn’t take it, say, to the divisional commander—it rested with my battalion commander whether he wanted me in his battalion or not and that was final—so I didn’t.415 ¶24

That night I went to bed in my Army cot physically and in the eyes of the other fifty men around Neville Goddard was sleeping on that cot…but he wasn’t there at all. He was 2,000 miles north of there in his own apartment on Washington Square in New York City. So I put myself on my own bed—knowing where my wife would be on her bed—in the bedroom. Then I imagined I’m off the cot, went to the window, looked out and saw the Holly Apartments across the way, imagined myself looking down toward 6th Avenue. Then I looked to this side and I looked towards Washington Square. Then I walked into my living room, into the dining room, into the kitchen, and felt the familiar objects, and brought as many of these five senses to play on the drama that I am now enacting. And then I went sound asleep. Then at four in the morning I heard a voice and the voice said to me, “That which I have done I have done! Do nothing!” But who did it?—I did it. Who was speaking?—I was speaking. Well, I heard it as coming from without, but I know exactly what I did. I was actually…and I wasn’t there on furlough. I made very, very sure I wasn’t there on furlough; I was there honorably discharged. I did nothing for the next nine days.415 ¶25

Nine days later, the same colonel—he is Colonel Theodore Bilbow, Jr. of Mississippi; you’ve heard of his father, his name was Bilbow—called me in. “Take a chair,” sat down, and he asked me the usual questions that any colonel would ask, “You still want to get out of the Army?” “Yes sir.” “You know the best dressed man in this country is the man wearing the American uniform, the soldier?” I said, “Yes sir.” “Still want to get out of the Army?” “Yes sir.” I yes-ed him to death…every yes a big “sir” at the end of it, for they demand it in the Army. And so, at the end of my interview he said, “Alright, Goddard, you are now honorably discharged. Go back and tell your captain I want him to sign papers that you brought in which were denied nine days ago.” Went back to my captain, told him what the colonel told me. I came back with my papers that the captain had signed and the colonel signed it, gave me ninety-six dollars to get back to New York City, and I was out of the Army that day. So, I came on back in the usual way that soldiers travel. [...]. Perfectly alright, I was going back not on any furlough. So I came back honorably discharged by simply actually believing what I believe the Bible is teaching the world, but they don’t see it.415 ¶26

So I brought myself into feeling. I could feel myself on the bed. I could see the Holly Apartments across the way. We were living then on the seventeenth floor, right across from the Holly Apartments. Look down and here below and down, here is the park, Washington Square; over here is Sixth Avenue. Then I knew the things of the living room, I knew the things of the dining room, I knew the things of the kitchen. I walked through my apartment and felt it to be real. Went back to my bed and there I slept. Anyone awakening in that room who was psychic would have seen Neville in that bed. I slept there. Physically this garment was in Camp Cook, Louisiana, but in Spirit…for man is all Imagination and therefore he must be where he is in Imagination. If I’m all Imagination, where am I now in Imagination? I must be where I am in Imagination and therefore I had to gravitate there. The colonel who thought he initiated the desire to discharge me nine days later after he disapproved my application, so he has the pleasure of feeling that he discharged me and that he initiated that desire…and he had no choice in the matter. For the whole vast world is yourself pushed out and they must do what they do if in the doing it aids the birth of what you have done.415 ¶27

So, did you do it? Don’t say, “Well now, I know what I ought to have done.” Do it! And so, if you hear it and then you act upon what you’ve heard to the point of actually raising Imagination to the state of vision, then you’ve done it. What else must I do? The voice said to me, “That which I have done I have done. Do nothing!” And I did nothing after that. I had done it and then the whole thing unfolded within my world. So when I tell you these things, I’m telling you what I know from experience, I am not speculating, not theorizing. But we are the operant power, it doesn’t operate itself. To know it is one thing, to do it is another. So are we doing it?415 ¶28

Now, as far as the other [...] comes, that is altogether different. That’s grace, grace, grace, grace. And not a thing we do can earn it. It comes suddenly, unexpectedly…so dramatically that you haven’t time to think. In fact, you didn’t even know it unless you heard it, say, from someone who experienced it. I know that as far as I am concerned I never heard it from anyone. And although I read the Bible I never saw it…I never thought it was related to me. Not for one moment did I believe that the Bible was all about me. Any more than the average person reading it thinks it’s about himself or about herself. And so, in my case I can say with Paul, I never got it from a man, I was never taught it; it came through revelation. Now, revelation to Paul is what it is to me: It’s simply an act of God in self-revealing. That’s what revelation is. Well, God is hidden in man and he simply unveils himself in man. So he unveils and unveils and unveils. Then as he unveils, at the very end man knows he is the being who is now unveiled. They are one, they aren’t two. The partition is broken down and the unveiled one is man himself and he is God . So it’s an act of God in self-revealing.415 ¶29

So here tonight, if you have any desire, keep this in mind and try it. Try it with hearing. I have found from those that I have discussed it with that this is the easiest of the five. I have found the sense of touch very easy. And if you can’t find out, well, what could I touch that would imply the fulfillment of the dream? Well, a letter. Could you imagine that someone would be gracious enough having asked help of you, and receiving that help, that they would write you a letter? Not giving you anything…the gift would be in telling you that it has worked, that they received it. Well, could you imagine receiving such a letter?415 ¶30

Although scripture does warn you that only one in ten will do it—that there were ten lepers and all asked for help, and he granted the help that they requested. They went their way and all were cured as they walked; but one, the Samaritan, the stranger, returned to say “Thank you, Lord.” He said, “Were there not ten?” So nine, which means ninety percent did not return to say thank you. So, maybe the same percentage holds good in this world and that ninety percent will not write you the letter. But nevertheless, you can use that as the medium to impregnate yourself with the good fortune that they are seeking and they ask you to help. They may never really write it, but it doesn’t matter as far as you are concerned, that’s their concern. They could be numbered among the ninety percent of those who were ungrateful and did not return to the Lord to say, “Thank you, Lord.” If one returns, alright, be grateful that at least one brought confirmation of the truth of what you’ve done, knowing that the Bible teaches that ninety percent will not do it. Don’t be concerned, grant it any way.415 ¶31

Because, as you do it, it’s like Job, your own captivity is being lifted as you in turn pray for your friends. So you pray for your friends even if they don’t know it or they aren’t grateful. You yourself are lifted up by the good you brought to others. So tonight, you take something for yourself, something for a friend, something for a relative, without their knowledge or their consent, and exercise your talent. It’s a talent given you. You have your five senses, well then, exercise them in this manner: Bring them into the surface and objectifying Jacob, clothing Jacob in external reality. Let your Esau vanish from the world: Esau…at the moment whatever you would like to replace. So it is Jacob who replaces or supplants Esau. So what would you like to put in the place of what you have? What you would “like in the place of” is your Jacob, and what you have that you dislike or would change is your Esau. These are the two of scripture and you are the father. And you’ll see the whole thing unfolding in your wonderful, wonderful world. So you try it. May I tell you, you will not fail! But you are the operant power.415 ¶32

Now let us go into the Silence.415 ¶33

Any other questions, please?415 ¶36

When you think of what we really have been given…for God became us so that we may become God. Just dwelling upon it, alone that thought alone, what a gift! Just dwell upon it…you’ll feel “how could such an infinite gift be given to me,” one who is capable of so many unlovely things in this world? Not only capable but with a memory of having done so many unlovely things, and possibly if confronted with similar states you will repeat them…and yet to be given God in whom there is no unloveliness! He who is perfect gave me himself. If he is perfect I must be perfect as he is perfect…and to give me such perfection when I am so imperfect! Just to dwell upon it…what a marvelous thing it is! Well, if there aren’t any others…it’s almost time…I will say thank you. Until Monday.415 ¶37

Q and A

[...]415 ¶34

Speaker

Alright, my dear. The lady went to bed with happy thoughts. She had happy thoughts only as she fell into the deep and was awakened about three in the morning with a horrible dream. It seemed something that happened a long time ago or something that she might have been afraid of a long time ago. Well, I would not be disturbed over a thing of that nature. It shows you that he who is always watching, the Father within you which is your redeemer, the core of your being, is presenting in dramatic form, in the form of a [...] and now is brought to the surface of your mind for solution. And the solution you heard tonight. He’s not scaring you just to scare you, but he has to teach you that you have not overcome it. The fear is still there. Face it. And it’s brought to the surface in the most dramatic way and then you simply face it. As you face something, it dissolves. You don’t suppress it, don’t bury it, just face it and resolve it in your mind’s eye. Take the whole thing and resolve it. Suppose now this were true and not that; and then believe in the reality of the substituted state and resolve it, rather than not resolve it and it’s buried, for it will come up for recognition. A friend who is here tonight, in her dream someone wanted food and so she intended feeding him even though there was apprehension on her part because it was late in the evening and her husband was just about to return from work and what would he think of finding her entertaining a strange man in her apartment, her home? And so at that moment when she still had resolved to give him something, regardless of the husband’s reaction to feeding him, then the baby called for her attention. She has a little boy. So in responding to that she woke to discover that she had not, in her dream, fed the man. So what did she do? Right in her Imagination she gave him something. She fed him in her Imagination and resolved it. He came to her door seeking help and she did not turn her back upon him. So even in her Imagination after she was fully awake, she gives him something, and so she did not turn him away. As you are told in scripture, “I was hungry and you gave me nothing.” When?—“When you did not do it to the least of one of these.” Well, that was a moment and she did it. She so believed in the reality that Imagination creates reality that she did it and she fed him.415 ¶35

Jesus Christ

Although only a few are teaching this wonderful principle at the present time, many others will follow; and because the Christian world believes in a man, this question will be asked over and over: “Do you not believe that a man called Jesus Christ walked the earth?” It is my hope that I will be able to clarify this point for you tonight. Listen to these words from scripture: “You will know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Thy Word is truth.” And speaking of Jesus Christ: “His name shall be called the Word of God.” Here we see he has a name, so he is a person, yet he is the Word, the truth that sets man free. Confessing that he came into the world to do his Father’s will, in the 6th chapter of the book of John he makes this statement: “This is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life.” Now, there is not a truth (or a lie) that does not have a man as its agent, as it takes a man to express either a lie or a truth, and Jesus Christ is called the truth! So when you are called upon to answer the question: “Don’t you believe on e unique man was born in 4 B.C. and named Jesus Christ?” answer it in this way: “Jesus Christ is not a man, but God’s plan of salvation.”414 ¶1

One of the saddest and yet poignant statements in the Bible is recorded in the Book of Samuel. David’s son, Absalom revolted against him and tried to take over the kingdom. All during the battle, however, David inquired over and over again: “How is it with the lad, Absalom?” And when he receives the news of Absalom’s death he goes up to the chamber over the gate of Jerusalem and weeps, crying: “Oh Absalom, my son, my son. Would I have died instead of you. Oh Absalom, my son, my son.” This is a foreshadowing in a not altogether conclusive or immediately evident way of the story recorded in the New Testament. In the New Testament, we find that God the Father does that which David longed to do. He longed to give his life to restore his son, but he couldn’t do it, for only God can give his live to save his Son. Speaking to humanity, Blake put these words into the mouth of Jesus: “Fear not! Unless I die thou can’st not live. But if I die I shall arise again and thou with me. Wouldest thou love one who never died for thee? Or ever die for one who had not died for thee? And if God dieth not for Man, and giveth not himself eternally for Man, Man could not exist.”414 ¶2

God died by emptying himself of his divinity. He is not pretending he is dead, but actually becomes the very breath of life of every child born of woman. Now walking in the forgetfulness of Man, God has prepared a plan for his return, a plan whereby everyone is redeemed. This plan of redemption is Jesus Christ, but because it is personified man has taken the vehicle that conveyed the instruction for the instruction, and the agent that expressed the great truth for the truth expressed. If truth is to be expressed, it takes an individual man to express it. Therefore, when the story of redemption unfolds in a man, he relates his own experience.414 ¶3

Now we are told: “Everyone who sees and believes in the Son has eternal life.” The words “see” and “know” the same in both Hebrew and Greek, so if tonight I paint a word picture of the plan of salvation, I am showing you God’s Son. It does not necessarily follow that you will understand what I am saying and believe me, so the statement is made: “To everyone who sees the Son and believes…” Tonight I hope I can tell it so clearly that everyone can follow and understand what I say and accept it! Jesus Christ is not a man! He is not a person, but God’s plan of redemption which must be discovered and understood. To enter this world one must wear a body of flesh and blood; yet we are told that flesh and blood cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. It takes a spiritual body to enter that kingdom and my words are spirit! If I tell you a story that many in this audience have experienced, and you accept it, you too will experience the truth that will set you free.414 ¶4

No man can set you free. This man called Neville is simply an agent expressing truth. It is not good enough for you to just understand it. You must believe - not in Neville - but in the truth he is expressing from this platform and his books. If I lie and you believe what I say then you can’t prove it and will remain a slave. And oh, the pain that is promised to the teacher who dares to lie and mislead those who trust him. I am telling you what I have experienced, so I can’t lie. Jesus Christ, God’s story of salvation, has been fulfilled in me. I have experienced the birth; the discovery of God who is David; the splitting of the temple which is one’s body, the ascent of the Son of man into heaven, and the descent of the dove. The majority of the people of the world will not accept my story, for they want a person on the outside as their personal savior.414 ¶5

Tonight many who are facing their inevitable departure from this world are hoping to meet what they call their “savior,” but their savior is a plan of salvation who is God Himself! When they ask you the question and insist on a Yes or No answer, ask them to come and reason with you in this manner: You believe in scripture? Let us turn to the 11th chapter of Matthew and read the story concerning John the Baptist. It is said of him: “Among those born of woman, none is greater than John the Baptist, yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” Now let me ask you: Is Jesus Christ man of flesh and blood? Then he is not greater than John the Baptist. You don’t believe that? Well, it was Jesus Christ who made the statement: “No one born of women is greater than John the Baptist.” If you insist that Jesus Christ was born of woman and therefore in this world of flesh and blood, then he is not greater than John the Baptist. In fact, if you insist that Jesus Christ is a man of flesh and blood, and the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John, then is he not also greater than Jesus Christ?414 ¶6

God’s plan of salvation is an entirely supernatural drama and hasn’t a thing to do with any child which came (or comes) from the womb of a woman. His story takes place in an entirely different area, for man comes out of his own skull. That’s the birth from above. There is a wonderful hiddenness of Christ in the 6th, 8th, 18th and 19th chapters of the Gospel of John. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son? How can he now say: ‘I came down from heaven’? He is Joseph’s son in the eyes of hundreds of millions of people, but Jesus doesn’t make that confession.” Rather he tells you: “I have come down from heaven not to do my will, but the will of him who sent me, and heaven is within.” How can Jesus be sent from heaven and be Joseph’s son if Joseph is a mortal man? In the 8th chapter of John they ask him: “Who is your father?” and he replied: “You know neither me nor my Father, for if you knew me you would know my Father also.” In other words, if you know Christ in the true sense of the word, you wouldn’t ask because you would know that he is yourself. You would know: “My Father is he who you call God. I know my Father and you know not your God.” You will find the hiddenness of Christ all through the Book of John. And although it takes a man to express God’s plan, Christ cannot be seen by mortal eyes. He can only be known and experienced as the plan of salvation.414 ¶7

One who expressed the truth stood before Pilate, who said: “Who are you and where are you from?” And when he would not answer, Pilate said: “Do you not know I have the power to release you or to crucify you?” Then truth replied: “You have no power over me unless it is given you from above.” (This word translated “above” is “anothen” translated in the 3rd chapter of John as: “You must be born from above.”) His world is not this world, for did he not say: “I am not of this world”? The drama unfolds in an entirely different world and what I share with you is that which I have experienced in that other world.414 ¶8

Now, let me share an experience which was recently shared with me. The lady writes: “Last Sunday night I felt your presence so strong that I sat down expecting to see you. Instead all I saw were lights flickering on and off like fireflies. Then I went to bed and this is my dream. I was watching my tape recorder run, observing the tape move from one reel to the other, when I remembered that if I would arrest the activity I observed in my own mind, it would freeze. Immediately I stopped the activity in my imagination and the reel moved no more. I notice that the instant I did it, something in me opened and expanded; but I could not start the reel again until I contracted my senses. This fascinated me so I did it several times, each time realizing that I could not start the action in my open and expanded state. Only when I had contracted my senses once more would the reel start and move, seemingly independent of my perception of it. And when I awoke I was disappointed because I had not stopped and started people, but then I realized the significance of the symbolism of the dream and was elated once more.”414 ¶9

There is only God! God in the eternal state of existence! God in procession and God in return! Her experience of the night is a foreshadowing of her return to union with herself! Coming into the world she has played her part and is now tasting of the power everyone will exercise in the new age, a power completely unknown to man.414 ¶10

Man is frightened by his own little devices, and thinks they can blast the universe apart; but they are only little firecrackers. You might have seen yesterday’s Los Angeles Times where the astrophysicists at Cal Tech claim there are one hundred billion galaxies in our universe, with each galaxy containing one hundred billion stars; yet they can find nothing like our small little earth. The only thing in the universe that could cradle this biological experiment called Man is right here in our small planet - consisting of a sun and called Earth. If you dwell upon this thought you should feel so great! The entire universe was created by an orgasm of God to produce this one little system! Have you ever seen the orgasm of a man under the microscope? Billions of live organisms are there to attempt the likeness of the man, and only one is successful. Here is God’s orgasm, and one system comes out that can cradle his experiment to make man in his own image. There is nothing here that can do it! God had to die in order for man to live knowing “If I die I shall arise again and thou with me, for if God dieth not for man and gives himself eternally for man, man could not exist.”414 ¶11

When God became man he brought with him his plan of salvation, called Jesus Christ. The churches have organized and personified him. They have painted pictures of him and placed them on the wall, but that is not Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ is God’s eternal plan of salvation, which is expressed by a man. No one knows the authors of the gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are anonymous names of men who related their own experiences. Personifying the Son, they call him Jesus Christ, but man not knowing this cannot discriminate between the state and its occupant, so he takes the state and worships it. Jesus Christ is God’s plan of salvation which unfolds in a man!414 ¶12

Now you will carry on when I am gone and you will be asked about him. When they ask you if you believe that a man called Jesus Christ was born of Mary, lived, and was crucified on a wooden cross, tell them the true story of salvation. You can, for you will be witnesses! You will have been born form above. You will have found David, who calls you Father. You will have been split in two, ascended into heaven, and witnessed the descent of the dove. When you have had all of these experiences you will be witnesses to the truth of God’s word. As a witness, you are the fruit of the tree of life upon which Jesus Christ (as God’s eternal plan) was crucified. Men are looking for that tree in time and space, but Blake tells us: “The gods of the Earth and Sea sought through Nature to find this tree, but their search is all in vain; there grows one in the human brain.”414 ¶13

That’s where Jesus Christ (God’s plan of salvation) is embedded. Engrafted there, it grows and erupts into these major events until the climax is reached, which is the descent of the dove. Then the man in whom the eruption has taken place will linger to tell of his experience and encourage his brothers. Then he will depart, not to be restored to this terrestrial world, but to enter that age called the kingdom of heaven, where he will exercise a power greater than the wildest dream of mortal man. When God’s plan of salvation is complete, you have returned to yourself. That’s divine reunion. Then you will know from experience: “I came out from the consciousness of being the Father, and came into the world by being aware of its existence. Again I am leaving the world and returning to the awareness of being the Father.”414 ¶14

Remember: there is only God the Father! This world is not some accident, but a plan to create and expand the creative power of God. There is no limit to your expansion, only a limit to contraction. Man is that limit. Taking on the limit of contraction and the opacity which is man, God unfolds himself in man to know unlimited translucency and expansion! Jesus Christ is God’s plan of salvation. When you can see this clearly in your mind’s eye, you are seeing the Son of god, for God’s plan is his Son called Jesus Christ. If you reject this, you do not believe in yourself. The entire gospel of John tells about faith and lack of belief in self!414 ¶15

John tells you a story about himself. He is expressing truth and personifying it as a man and it’s the truth you should worship, not the man! John urges you to “Hold onto the truth, for the truth will set you free.” If you accept the word of God that abides in you, you will know its truth and be set free. But if you say: “I want this wisdom, but if I could find out how he made his millions I would delay this for a while and come back tomorrow. I want the millions first,” I say to you: “O foolish one, your soul is required of you tonight. Tomorrow I will put you in a sphere where you will have your millions, but you will have to work for it.”414 ¶16

Don’t think that because you are now playing a noble part, you cannot move to an ignoble one. Just like an actor, you may play the part of a king on the stage of time and space tonight, and tomorrow be cast in the role of a clown. “God only acts and is in existing beings or men.” We are cast in role after role, until the work we asset out to do is completed in us. And regardless of what we do now, or our social or intellectual position, when we leave here we are cast in our appropriate roles. This I know from experience. Everything is done and everything is perfect. God planned everything as it has come to pass, and as it will be consummated.414 ¶17

So to you who are teaching now and to those who will follow, mark my words, you are going to be asked: “Don’t you believe in Jesus Christ as a man whose mother was Mary?” This is a question I have been asked all through my teaching years. Just before I closed last December a man took issue with me, for my words were in conflict with his concept of Jesus Christ. He had him as someone of flesh and blood on the outside and could not give up that concept. He has never returned, but that is the fulfillment of the 6th chapter of John, for when the people heard his words, they said: “These are hard sayings,” and they left, never to walk with him again. I am only fulfilling scripture. I tell the truth as I have experienced it and there will be those, like this gentleman, who will not walk with me again. He cannot walk with me while believing in a physical Jesus Christ, when my concept of him is the personification of truth, of God’s plan of salvation.414 ¶18

This truth must be expressed by man, so a man comes and expresses it. One must learn to leave the man alone and hold onto the truth, for the truth will then engraft itself you and unfold within you. Then you will know who Jesus Christ really is, because when he unfolds in you everything said of him is experienced by you. And when you read that David called God “My Father,” and David calls you “Father,” then are you not God? If it is said that God’s body was split from top to bottom, and it happens to you, are you not God? As these events happen, the whole Bible will open up, and you will see the wisdom of Blake when he said: “Rivers, mountains, cities, villages - all are you, for in eternity all are men.”414 ¶19

Scripture records that the Mount of Olives was split, but you will know that it was your own body that was divided. You will discover yourself to be the River Jordan, for there is nothing but Man. When you enter into the awareness of being the mountains, the villages, and the cities you will walk in their heavens and earth, for “All that you behold, though it appears without, it is within you, in your Imagination of which this world of mortality is but a shadow.” All of the mountains of the scriptures are within you, as are the cities and the villages, regardless of their names. You become the Jerusalem, the bride who comes down at the dawn. Being God, individualized, you will personify God’s plan of salvation called Jesus Christ, for there is nothing but Man, and Man is God. Now let us go into the silence.414 ¶20

Power Sent Me

I’ve been saying through the years that God has sent me. I tell you, one day you will know it. In the meanwhile, let me now tonight explain what I came to do and who responds. In the words of Browning, he said, “Truth is within ourselves; it takes no rise from outward things, no matter what you believe. There is an inmost center in us all, where truth abides in fullness; and to know rather consists of opening out a way whence the imprisoned splendor may escape, than in effecting entry for a light supposed to be without” .413 ¶1

So if truth is within us and I am speaking the truth, you will know it. Everyone who receives it and believes it, they will know it. One who will not receive it will not know it now, but they will eventually know it.413 ¶2

So in the words of John, and John in the 17th chapter, and he’s speaking to his…Jesus is speaking to his Father…in these words he said, “I have given them the words thou gavest me, and they have believed that thou didst send me” . These you will read in the 17th of John.413 ¶3

Now, what I told you is this, I stood in the presence of the risen Lord. He wore the human form divine of infinite love. He embraced me and incorporated me into his body. I became one body, one form with the risen Lord—“one Spirit, one Lord, one God and Father of all” . But he who sent me although the same Lord, for there’s only one Lord, did not wear the form of love; he wore the form of might, almightiness. So after he embraced me and incorporated me into his body of love, then I stood in the presence of almightiness. Man, for God is man and his every attribute is personified—it takes man to be the agent of every attribute of God. So then I stood in the presence of infinite might, which is power, and it was he who said to me, “Time to act!” and dispatched me.413 ¶4

Then I was sent into this world to tell the story of God as infinite power, not love. I refer to love, but were I not first incorporated into the body of love, it would be the most horrible thing in the world to possess such power not restrained by love. One is first incorporated into the body of love before they are dispatched by the same God wearing the body of power.413 ¶5

So here, I was sent to tell the world of the infinite power of God, and I tell you, that power is our own wonderful human Imagination. It’s beyond the wildest dream of man, who monkeys around with nuclear powers. Oh yes, I could destroy New York City, but is that power?413 ¶6

Suppose you had a power where you could take New York City without destroying one brick, one child in the city. Suppose you came upon a scene that’s animated—not like this, because you’re all attentive, you’re animated but you’re attentive—but an animated scene. Take a scene of now, say, Grand Central Station in New York City at the rush hour. It’s sheer pandemonium. Or the stock market when it’s going down or up and there’s an exchange of say thirteen million shares in the course of a day. To see that scene, it’s the most fantastic thing. I saw it when it was only eight million shares in the Exchange, but I thought I was in Bedlam. Everyone is mad about a dollar, and they’re watching this state and they’re moving back and forth…a peculiar…just like bees. Now, suppose you came upon that scene animated as it is, and as you looked at it you knew that if you arrested an activity within you, everything would stand still. And you did and everyone was frozen. Now, if you release it, they continue their intention. No matter how long you held it, a second, a minute, an hour, they will continue their intentions. But suppose as you arrest the activity within you, you change their intention. Just imagine, you change their intention and then release it. With the changed motivation, they move under compulsion to fulfill what now they think they’ve initiated. They think their ideas are now completely original and that they have initiated it.413 ¶7

Put that now into a vast picture of an army, tens of millions, seeking the destruction of you the center of your country and your country. And if you could arrest the activity as it’s poised to hit and having arrested it you change their intention, you could make them all, like the lemmings, run towards the ocean beyond their depths and start them breathing under the depths and drown them all. That’s what you could do. But you will not do it with this power, because no one is sent in to do it until he is first incorporated into the body of love. And it’s only God playing all the parts. But that’s the power.413 ¶8

I have tasted of that power at intervals since he has sent me into the world. Just at intervals I tasted of it…arresting the activity that seems so independent of me to discover that it really isn’t independent of me at all. The forms are, but not their life…that their life is in me, and I am activating my world. And so, “As the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself” .413 ¶9

Now, here is how the one who is sent into the world calls his disciples. “No man cometh unto me save my Father calls him,” but no one . So I will start on the surface of my being and I will teach of the infinite power of your own wonderful human Imagination. To what extent do you believe? “For many are called, but few are chosen” , because many will say, oh, I believe, and give you lip service. So I do not listen to what they tell me on the surface. Oh, I believe it, I believe it, they’ll say. I am not the judge. He didn’t send his Son into the world to judge anyone. He didn’t send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world may have life, everlasting life, and be saved through him . No one who believes in him is condemned, and those who do not believe they are already condemned, because they didn’t believe in the name of the Son of God.413 ¶10

Well, the name means “nature.” The nature of this Son of which I speak now is power, for Jesus Christ in scripture is defined as “the power and the wisdom of God” . So when you stand in the presence of power and you are sent, you are sent by the power of God, and the power of God is Jesus Christ. He then is the Father and he expects the talent given you to be wisely invested, so that when you come back with the investment doubled he may say, “Well done, my faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord.” For you went out regardless of what others would say and you told it just as it was told you, just as you experienced it.413 ¶11

Now, let me show you how they are selected. In the depths of the soul they are selected. A week ago last Friday night this lady taking to bed this message she heard from this platform, and she said, “I found myself in a far, far place. It was so remote both in place and in time, I did not understand anything that I saw or heard. Suddenly the confusion ceased, and I am in huge, huge room, glass-fronted and marble pillars…and it’s practically empty, just the chair where I am seated. Then I feel I am expecting someone. Who I do not know, but I have the feeling I’m expecting someone. Then a carriage drives up. It is undoubtedly self-propelled. It’s a carriage of a different period, but it’s not a horse-drawn vehicle; it’s a carriage of a different period but undoubtedly self-propelled. The door opens and out steps a man who embodies power. He is the embodiment and personification of power and authority. He’s a tall man with gray curly hair. He is wearing an Inverness cape and carrying a small attaché bag. He moves swiftly into the room where I am and walks over. There is no greeting and he begins to talk, that’s all. And here is the embodiment of power speaking and he’s only talking on power, here is a lesson in power, and, Neville, he is you. I am looking at you and suddenly I know he is God I’m saying to myself, ‘He is God and he is Neville.’ He continues talking on power, sheer power, unadulterated power. I am saying to myself, ‘He is God and he is Neville.’ And then he comes to the end of what he is saying. There’s no recognition of my presence at all. And when he’s through talking, he turns around, walks back, makes his exit, and as though by appointment the carriage comes into sight. He enters the carriage and just as he enters the carriage they disappear, they vanish suddenly. I was bewildered. I woke, I am simply completely bewildered, awestruck.413 ¶12

I went to the bathroom. I came back to my bed saying ‘I must tell this to Neville.’ “Went back to bed and re-dreamed the dream. But this time, it is as though I am remembering the dream in the dream, and I’m making every preparation to tell it to you. So I start …and as I start to tell it to you, I find a ticket office. I move toward the ticket office and my friend Marge Broome is there. Just as I meet her, this something struck me in the forehead between my eyes and just above the eye, and it was painful, a sharp pain. I saw it, it looked like a stone so I picked it up. It was about three or four inches long and about three-quarters of an inch thick. It was a polished topaz with gold buried all through it, embedded in the entire piece. As I’m showing it to Marge, a man walks over and looks at it and says, ‘It’s valuable. You could cut it up into pieces and get quite a lot of money for it.’” She said, “That commercial idea appealed to me, and so I took it and put it in my purse.413 ¶13

Then we started towards the ticket office…I must get to Neville to tell him this dream. Suddenly Marge disappears. I look for my car and the car has disappeared. I open my purse and the purse is empty, there is no money and there is no topaz. I’m saying to myself, ‘What will I’— and then I arrested the thought”—she was about to say, what will I use for money? She arrested the thought. She said, “I will go within and I will imagine I’m with Neville” and immediately she was in my home and she’s telling me the dream.413 ¶14

She comes down to the point of the dream just before she remembered the teaching how to imagine, when the doorbell rang and then through the door came a group of gay, laughing wonderful people…youth personified in numbers. “It was time for me to take my walk and for her to leave,” and she left so frustrated because she didn’t tell me in the dream how she remembered the teaching and applied it successfully. As she woke, she said, “I was thinking that I would tell you on Monday.” Well, she did. She brought the letter on Monday night, last Monday night, so when I went home I could read that letter Monday night. This was so vivid to her that she woke saying, “I must tell him…I’ll tell Neville on Monday.” That’s how one is chosen.413 ¶15

In the depths of the soul my Father calls the twelve. My work isn’t complete until the twelve are called. There’ll be seventy and there’ll be more, but not until twelve. One who in dream applies it…one who has actually seen the truth of what I am saying, that God himself sent me and he sent me when he was wearing the garment of power. So when that man came in and began to talk on power, he himself embodied power, he radiated power; and he was Neville and yet he was God. So I can say this to you. And you know my weaknesses as man…and you’ll say, “Oh, silly, come on, give us something else, tell us something else”…and so many will give me lip service. But in the depths of the soul you don’t give me lip service; in the depths of the soul it unfolds and you know who I am.413 ¶16

But I tell you, I’m not unique…so are you! The day will come when you, too, will be called and you, too, will be embraced into the body of God in the form of love. You, too, will be sent, but sent by power. If I were sent when he wore the garment of love, I would tell you nothing but the garment of love. But I wasn’t, I was sent when he was wearing the garment of power. He wore the garment of Jesus Christ, for Jesus Christ is the power and the wisdom of God. So I have been telling it since it happened.413 ¶17

What greater power in this world than to be able to effect the fulfillment of desire? She had no friend, she had no car, she had no money, she had no topaz, but she remembered a power that I am talking about. She exercised it and instantly, without any means of transportation, there she is in my home telling me her dream. That is the use of power! If you had all the power known to man, like nuclear power or the power of wealth, well, that’s an enormous power known to man, but that is nothing, it’s a firecracker. Today a man with two billion dollars can’t buy respect. There are those tonight throwing their whole future away because they are playing it on this level. They think they’re very, very smart, and they make one tiny, little slip and with all of their multiple millions that they have, they can’t redeem it. They can’t buy the respect of the people whose confidence they lost by one tiny, little political slip. Watch it happen right before your eyes now. But those who know this power can apply it without any background, without any billions behind them to put them into office, and just dwell in the office as though it were true. What would it be like were it true? Let me dwell in it just as though it is true, and in a way that no one knows that power will take them—without money, without a topaz, without a friend, without a car—into office and they will fill it.413 ¶18

That is what I’m talking about. That is what I’ve been sent to tell you, tell you of the power of God and that power of God is personified in scripture as Jesus Christ. People have made of this a little fetish and made some little icon and called that Jesus Christ. I am not speaking of that little Jesus Christ; I’m speaking of a power that is resident in man. That’s the power that I was sent to tell you about: This is Jesus Christ. And when he sent me, he never left me, so those who see me see him who sent me. So when she saw power that sent me, she saw me. She saw him who sent me and I’m just like him. He sent me into the world, and he and I are one. He never left me. When I leave here now, to whom do I go? I go back to the one who sent me, and he and I are one…and we will both return as one, back into the body of ourselves, called love and there we go. Well, this is the story as I read it in scripture and as I’ve experienced it in my own mystical manner.413 ¶19

So here, I can say to her, you have been called from the very depths, for you met it. You proved in the far regions of your mind that you were faithful to the Word: “And Father, I have given them the words that thou gavest me and they have received them, and they know in truth that I came from thee. They have believed them that thou didst send me.” Well, she knows it now from actual experience. She saw the power personified, she knew it was God, and yet she knew it is Neville. So she knows I haven’t lied to her, that I have kept the faith and told it just as it happened to me. So she had to experience it in the depths of her soul, she had to, and know that it is true.413 ¶20

Now, here is another story. We speak of symbols in the world…everything is a symbol I don’t care what it is. Your mother’s a symbol, your father’s a symbol, all symbols. And this lady writes, “The dream started and I am in a huge, big dormitory. All the girls are present. I can say I was present, but, really, in another sense I wasn’t, because I was just about to leave. But I had my own room…my own space, rather. And they are all talking about someone losing a child. They all had a chart and there were twelve days and each day had a certain letter to the day. The first initial of that day was simply the first letter in the event to be experienced that day. So this was the day on this person’s chart and it was a “k,” and so her child was kidnapped. She began to explain to me and to all the others, ‘see, she had to experience this this day because here is her chart.” She began to ball her out and ball all the others out who believed this trash, and began to explain, “You don’t have to experience these things you can revise the entire day. Who told you that you must limit yourself by a chart and have twelve days each day with a letter and that first letter is going to be the first letter of the experience of the day? This is nonsense!” She began to explain the art of revision, the power of imagining. Then she said, “She told the woman ‘You don’t have to lose your child. You can get the child back’” and she explained it in detail.413 ¶21

Then she said, “They all seemed so dotty, so I simply took my own child and I left. I went off into a long, long journey with so many people. I met so many travelers and then I decided to return. So I came back to find the place that I occupied is now occupied by another woman. Everything is as it was minus one or two little changes she made, but she is doing the same thing I did, playing the same part I played, doing over and over and over as all the others were doing, playing the same part I played. I noticed that the library was changed. Instead of my books, she had replaced my books with her books, and my books were placed under the bed. My books were all encyclopedias. So I said to her in the most forceful manner, ‘Get my books out and put them back where they belong, and take those books away!’” That’s what she did in her dream.413 ¶22

Then she said, “There was a great ado…a joyful state where everyone was now singing because my grandmother is coming.” Now she said, “I must go aside, this is not the dream, but I must tell you, my most joyful early childhood was spent with my grandmother. She was the essence of what a grandmother should be in the life of every grandchild. I think of all the things she cooked, the lemon pies, I think of the Indian summers, I think of the hothouses, I think of the flowers, of all the lovely things and an abundant, overflowing of love. So my childhood was swamped with love because of my grandmother. So when they said my grandmother was coming, I was excited…and here comes my grandmother who died in 1962. Now this is 1968 where this takes place. She comes in and she is at least fifteen years younger, at least fifteen.” But she said, “Here, I’ve never known her so vital.” She must have died when she was a young person…because she’s still a very young person today. So fifteen years off would be considerable if you are one who loses a grandmother at a young age. For she died in ’62, but in ’62, which was six years ago, she’d still be a very young person.413 ¶23

So she said, “She was fifteen years younger. Her hair was thicker, her eyes were bright, everything about her vital. I’ve never known such vitality in my grandmother. She came up with open arms and she embraced me and we kissed. I could feel the coolness of her skin. I could feel her lips against my lips as we kissed and embraced. And while I’m holding her and feeling the thrill of my grandmother, she becomes rigid, she drops in my hands, and she’s dead. And she falls to the floor. Everyone is concerned and sad about it. And I am overly joyful. She falls to the floor, and then I see it for what it really is, the symbolism of my life, the part she played in my life, and this is an eternal part. Then I realize who I am when she fell to the floor and then just simply vanished. She not only fell but she disappeared from the floor. All around me are sad…and I am not sad at all.” Here is the most marvelous experience!413 ¶24

Here is one who has had the experience of arresting an activity and starting it again, so she is tasting of the power of the life to come, the power of the new age. She sees that everything here is really dead, everything here is a symbol and we are playing parts. Now she knows it from experience. She goes back to the old state to find it is the same thing over and over and over, with a slight modification. She tries to bring it back to its former state by bringing back the books from under the bed, but she gives it up, it means nothing. And out she goes to meet the grandmother, to find the grandmother alive, young, wonderful, vital, and after the embrace and the kiss, then she drops.413 ¶25

So I tell you, I’ve been sent to tell you who you really are. Sent to tell you of a power of which you may be totally unaware, that you do not need a social, intellectual, financial, or any other background to achieve your goals. You may have all of these tonight and fail in your objective. And you may not have any of those things and realize your objective if you will believe.413 ¶26

So, do you believe in him? He said, “What is the work of God?—to believe in him whom he has sent” . Well, believe in whom? Believe in Neville as a man? No! Believe in my word…believe what I have told you. I have told you of a power; that power is Jesus Christ. So when I said believe in Jesus Christ, I’m not asking you to believe in Neville, a man. You might find me tonight in some environment which you will condemn, because you think that is not a place where he should be seen and therefore you have no faith in what he teaches. But divorce the man from what he is telling you, and believe in what he is telling you. His word is the word of his Father and his Father is Jesus Christ, and he’s one with his Father. They are one.413 ¶27

He was always in the company of tax collectors and sinners and they condemned him for that. They knew his physical origin. They said, “Where are you from?” and he said, “I’ve told you, but you wouldn’t believe me.” They said, “Who is your father?” He said, “You wouldn’t know; if you knew me, you would know my father also. But you know neither me nor my Father. My Father is he whom you call God; but I know my Father and you know not your God” . And so they took up stones to stone him, because they did not believe his ultimate origin…they saw the physical origin. Yes, anyone can investigate this and its physical origin. It’s recorded in the little island; it’s there on the book. They were taken at that time when I was born, the records of birth and the records of baptism, so these are there. You can see them. That’s my physical origin. So when you go back, he said, “I know his father, his mother, his brothers, his sister, we know these things,” but do you know my ultimate origin? Do you know him who sent me?413 ¶28

And do you know the phrase “him who sent me” is used on his lips twenty-five times in the gospel of John? Twenty-five times! He’s always referring to “him who sent me,” and no one can follow him. So if in the depths you begin to so exercise what you have heard, that you actually exercise it and prove it in the dream, as she did, instantly, immediately she’s in my home telling me the dream. And that’s how they are called. They aren’t called on the surface at all, not one is called, because the whole drama is supernatural. It did not take place here on earth…not in the sense of secular history. It takes place while man walks the earth; it takes place in the deeper regions of the individual, and that’s where it takes place. So he didn’t call Peter while he was fishing in the waters of this land, and then call Andrew and call John and James and all the others. No, these are simply symbolic of the states of mind that heard, believed, and in the depths it happened. And they were called that way.413 ¶29

But no man on the surface is calling them, for you would call them by appearance and think “Now, isn’t she lovely or isn’t he lovely, and she is rich and he is rich, and they would give so much to the cause. That’s what they’re all doing. So you go to church and best pews, used to be until recently, were always reserved for the rich. I know when I was a boy we didn’t have much money, but we had a little position, so we had our own pew, and here was the name “Mrs. Goddard” and no one dared sit in the pew. So she came with her brood every Sunday morning. We all had to come, reluctantly, but we came. Mother led the whole bunch of us in. And here the little name…that was Mrs. Goddard’s pew. Now today that’s a thing of the past, because you can’t have reserved or bought pews. But even though the name is not allowed on it, it is still an unwritten rule in all the so-called proper churches, and they still reserve it for those who have large sums of money. The minister if he sees their face on a Sunday morning tears up what he had intended to say and speaks what they want to hear, or they aren’t going to get a large donation.413 ¶30

I know this from experience, for it came to me out of the horse’s mouth in New York City. St. Luke’s is a marvelous hospital in New York City and next to it is St. John the Divine, the unfinished cathedral…the biggest thing and really a beautiful piece of work, and then there is St. Thomas, the cathedral on 5th Avenue, all Episcopal. The hospital, St. Luke’s, is run by the Episcopal Church. And this lady was going to give St. Thomas two million dollars if the bishop was not still alive, Bishop Manning. Well, the old boy out lived her, so she gave it to St. Luke’s. So the hospital fell heir to $2,000,000.413 ¶31

Now that’s a Christian. She thought she was working her way right into the arms of God…and he would say, “I never heard of you…never heard of you…do not know who you are?” Well, she thought by that very generous gift of $2,000,000 either to one place, provided, of course, that the old boy was dead. If he was dead, the church would get it; if he wasn’t dead, the hospital would get it and yet they are both one. And here is this little person with millions of dollars, and she gave $2,000,000 to either one or the other, providing one was dead, and if he hadn’t died the other one got it. And that is what goes on in all these so-called proper churches. “Where do you go? Well, you must leave that and go to this church because if you meet the right people and do these things…” and that’s called Christianity.413 ¶32

Well, I wasn’t sent to tell you of that. I was sent to tell you of the real Christ, and the real Christ is your own wonderful human Imagination. And there is nothing impossible to Christ; you don’t need anything else.413 ¶33

All I can say is test yourself and see whether you are holding to the faith. We think we are and suddenly something comes up and I wonder, “Well, who can I interest in this venture of mine? Where could I turn?” And we do not turn to Christ. When she found herself denuded of a friend, no friends, Marge was gone; no car, no transportation to my home; no money to get there; she’s in the ticket office, no topaz that she can break up into pieces and sell it. And then she remembers. She went within and imagined herself in my home, and immediately she’s in my home. She met the test…and therefore she’s called. I’ve got to go back with my work completed.413 ¶34

He sent me and he is drawing into my world those who will fill the bill, and when it is completed—it could be this night—I will go. For she had a double dream, bear that in mind. The 41st chapter of Genesis: “The doubling of the dream means that the thing has been fixed by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass” . So this dream being doubled it has a double jet of truth in it. She has met the test; that was the most important thing in it, that she met the test. In her dream she imagined herself in my presence and immediately she’s with me in my home. The second is that she came into the circle. And I do not feel it can be long, it will shortly come to pass. “I came out from the Father and I came into the world; now I am leaving the world and returning to the Father” . So I take in this dream of hers that shortly it must come to pass. And just as I vanished without leaving a trace, just vanished, it will come in that manner. I take it in her revelation that she has met the test, and my departure I cannot see how it can be long delayed. But it cannot be until I have finished the work that he gave me to do. So I can then say, “I have finished the work that thou gavest me to do. Now return unto me the glory that was mine the glory that I had with thee before that the world was” . For I came out from you—there is pre-existence—and I came into the world, wearing a garment of flesh. And I’ve done the work which you gave me to do, to form the nucleus and to see that they do believe in you, which is their own wonderful human Imagination; and that they will not turn to a false god…they will keep that God alive in them. And then, reach the seventy and reach 144 and go on from there. So when the work is done, one has to depart. So I take comfort in her vision that it shall shortly come to pass.413 ¶35

Now here, believe me. It’s the most glorious story ever told man, the story of how God became man that man may become God. But man must be told over and over who this God is that became him, that he is all Imagination—that is the real man—and that Imagination of his is God. That is the powerhouse of the world. Infinite power resides in your Imagination. Just imagine that you are now imprisoned and they’ve thrown away the key, and you can imagine yourself where you want to be. Believe in the reality of your imaginal act. If it took armies to release you, it would make no difference to you, but you will get out, uninjured, and you will find yourself where you have imagined yourself to be. Well, isn’t that a far greater power than bribing your way out and then being sent back in because you’re caught bribing and doing all the things that violate the laws of Caesar?413 ¶36

He never violated one law of Caesar. “Do you pay taxes? Give me a coin. Whose inscription is this? It’s Caesar’s. Well then, render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s” . But they want so much! Alright, make that much more and give it to them. It makes no difference.413 ¶37

And so he wants this, he wants that, he wants the other. That’s told you in the Book of Samuel: As long as you have a God outside of self, he’s going to impose upon you every limitation in the world. Read it carefully in the Book of Samuel: They wanted a king and he warned them what would happen if they expected a king and took a king. But they wanted to be like other people and have a leader over them. He said that first of all, he’ll take your maidservants and he’ll take all your male servants, and your sons and your daughters; he’ll take your money; and when he’s taken everything from you, then he’ll take you. In that day that he takes you to enslave, as he has all the others, you will cry out to be saved from a god of your own choosing; but in that day I will have no ear to hear you . But in spite of the warning, they still say, “Give us a king over us.” So they chose Saul. With all the warning that came from the prophet Samuel, they insisted on Saul. Well, Saul enslaved them, exactly as was foretold. You want a king or you want a leader or you want a dictator and see what happens, whether it be in Cuba, Russia, any place…even in our land…and suddenly, all the things coming upon us, and we simply fulfill scripture.413 ¶38

When it comes to this power, listen to these words, for they knew he embodied infinite might, and he turned to those who would have him exercise it, he said, “Do you think that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he will at once send more than twelve legions of angels? But how should scripture be fulfilled, must it not be so?” . He came promising himself and the one who sent him that he would not exercise it in such a way, that he would subject himself to all the limitations of the flesh and abide by the will of him who sent him, and drink that cup to the very bitter end, every drop, no matter what happened to him, all the disgrace. Let them call him a phony, let them call him everything under the sun. Time will prove that he was God walking the earth. And so he drank the cup to the bitter end, although he could have called—or he could have exercised the power—and at once to his rescue would be more than twelve legions of angels. But he said, ‘No, I will drink it to the very last drop, and then return to him who sent me, and then we are one. And he will say to me, having done exactly what I was commissioned to do, “Enter, my faithful servant, into the joy of the Lord!”’ . And there is no joy like it, none, when you once more are re-incorporated into the body of love. For you return to the body of might and then into the body of love.413 ¶39

Now let us go into the Silence. * * * Are there any questions?413 ¶40

Well, my dear, you and you alone are the judge of what happened, you and you alone. Because no one fools the Father, and the Father in you knows exactly what he did that moment that you now describe, and so dwell upon it. If it was a thing of love, a thing of tenderness, dwell upon it and cherish it, and lean against it in times of trouble. I only know what the lady told me in her letter of Monday night, which came to her between the hours of Friday night and Saturday morning in a fantastic experience. For you’re told in scripture…I’m only here to talk about scripture…“He who sees me sees him who sent me.” I told you that the God of power sent me and she has seen it. He never left me, we are one. So she actually saw it. When the man stepped out and came in, clothed in his cape…and may I tell you, the night I was taken into the divine assembly that’s how they all were dressed, all wore capes. I can’t tell you why, but they all wore capes.413 ¶42

Alright, Ina. Well, thank you. And may I say congratulations, congratulations, my dear. Congratulations. I wouldn’t question that for one moment, because the Spirit in you knows exactly what happened, and I wouldn’t question it. That happened before you heard of me or met me? Alright, well then, cherish it, my dear. Who am I to deny a spiritual experience of anyone? I’m here to encourage it, just to encourage it. What has happened here in this particular experience? She was fulfilling scripture, because I have said you are going to actually know that he sent me. Well, who sent you?—God. Which God? There’s only one God. When he sent me, he was all power…he wore the garment of almightiness. When he sent me, he did not wear the garment of infinite love—that preceded it—so that I could be trusted to tell this story of power. For no one is going to exercise it until he’s first incorporated into the body of love. You can just imagine what havoc he could wreck in this world if he was not motivated by love but had such power at his fingertips. Just imagine what he could do! I have tasted of that power. It’s frightening! That people who think that they are alive are animated. They do not have life in themselves. They have life; they are living souls but not life-giving spirits. Man is destined to be a life-giving spirit where he stops and starts the world that he observes, and those in it are totally unaware of being stopped. If you arrested it for an hour, they wouldn’t know that the passage of time was one hour. They would awaken as though they hadn’t even arrested, that they hadn’t even napped, and continue in their intention. But to arrest it and change the motivation, what power! What horror would be man if he was not first incorporated into the body of love! So that is the first incorporation, and then comes power. Jesus Christ is power, sheer unadulterated power. If you read John correctly, the eight signs recorded were not done with compassion; they were the demonstration of power. There was no compassion whatsoever shown in what they called the signs in John; they are simply power. I know when I walked into this enormous crowd, thousands of them waiting for me, and when I came by they were instantly cured. Eyes came out of the nowhere, hands, ears, all the missing parts came out and remolded themselves into the face that was completely distorted and everything on their bodies. They were all made perfect. There wasn’t anything asked of me…I simply walked by, and being one with perfection everything in my world had to be perfect. It was not compassion that prompted it. That happened to me in 1946. So in John there is no compassion that prompts the signs; he just simply demonstrates power. He turns to the one, “What have I to do with thee? Fill the jars with water. Now draw.” And they draw wine. “What have I to do with thee?”— he’s turning to his mother and speaking. There’s no compassion in that voice. Nor to the servants, “Fill the stone jars with water” and she said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you to do.” So they filled the stone jars with water. “Now serve it!” and a wine far better than they ever had before comes from the jars that only contained water…a demonstration only of power, no compassion. So I tell you, until one is incorporated into the body of love one will not be sent. An apostle is one who is sent, but only after incorporation in the body of love. And he never fails one moment whether he sleeps or wakes that sense of being sent. It moves with him all through the day and night that sense of being sent. It is never foreign to him; it’s part of his personality, for he is sent. Whether one believes it or not, it really makes no difference to him, because he knows where he stood and how he was sent. I was sent by sheer might. He didn’t open his lips, he didn’t use any vocal chords, he simply thought the words and I heard them. The words were, “Time to act!” That was the emphasis. Now, “God only acts and is in existing beings or men.” So when I say, “Do you believe it?” well then, if you really believe it and you’re confronted with a decision, then you’ll act. If you don’t really believe it, you don’t act. You begin to ruminate, “What shall I do?”—just as she caught herself saying, “What am I going to use for…” and she stopped herself. She could have said, “What will I use for money? Have no car, my friend is gone, the money is gone, the topaz is missing, what will I use…” and she stopped it. She arrested the thought in dream. “I’ll go within and imagine that I am with Neville” and immediately she is with me in my home telling me her dream—that she has met the test. And so she is now a follower in the true sense of the word, a disciple. Good night.413 ¶44

Infinite Power

R obert Browning tells us: “Truth is within ourselves. It takes no rise from outer things No matter what you see. There is an inmost center in us all Where truth abides in fullness To know, Rather than insist on opening up a way Whence the imprisoned splendor may escape That is effecting everything As a light that is supposed to be without.” My word is truth. This truth is within you, waiting to be accepted in order to be experienced.412 ¶1

Speaking to his father in the 17th chapter of John, Jesus said: “I have given them the words which thou gavest me. They have received them and know, in truth, that I came from thee; and they have believed thou didst send me.” I will now tell you the truth!412 ¶2

Power took me to stand in the presence of the Risen Lord. Wearing the Human Form Divine, He embraced me and incorporated me into his body of Infinite Love. Wearing his body of love, I stood before Almighty God who said: “Time to act.” Then I was sent back into this world to tell the story of God as the infinite power of the human imagination! Nuclear power could destroy New York City. But the power of which I speak is far beyond that of nuclear energy.412 ¶3

Suppose you entered an animated scene, such as Grand Central Station in New York City at the peak of the rush hour, or the stock market in the course of a hectic day. As you look at it, you arrest an activity within you and everything stands still as though frozen. No matter how long you hold it – be it a second, a minute, or an hour – when it is released the scene becomes animated once again, as everyone continues their intentions. Now suppose, having arrested the activity within you, you change their intentions and – releasing the scene with the changed motivation – you discover that they move under compulsion to fulfill that which they now think they initiated. Do you realise that with this power you could cause them to commit suicide and think it was what they wanted?412 ¶4

Like the lemmings, you could make them run towards the ocean, enter beyond their depth, and drown. That’s what you can do with this power; but it will not be yours until you are first incorporated into the body of Love! This I know from experience, for I have arrested an activity which seemed to be independent of me, to discover that although their forms were, their life was not. Activating my word, their life was in me; for as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted me (his son) to have life in myself!412 ¶5

Now, no man comes to me save my Father calls him – but no one! Starting on the surface of my being, I teach the infinite power of the human imagination, not knowing to what extent it will be believed. Many are called to hear salvation’s story. Few are chosen to believe it. Many will tell me they believe, but I find it is only lip service.412 ¶6

I am not here to judge anyone. I was sent, not to condemn or judge the world, but that the world may be saved through me. Man is saved through belief, and condemned through lack of belief in the nature of the son of God. That son, called Christ in the New Testament, is defined as God’s power and his wisdom. When God gave himself to me, he sent his power into the world, expecting the talent given me to be wisely invested. When I tell others what has been revealed to me, regardless of what they may say, I have doubled the investment and will hear the words: “Well done my good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord.”412 ¶7

Now let me show you how the disciples are selected. This selection is always done in the depth of the soul, as in the case of this lady, who wrote, saying: “Last Friday night I went to bed filled with the message I had heard from you, to find myself in a far, far place, remote in time and space. I am seated on a chair in a large empty room, glass fronted with marble pillars. Suddenly a self-propelled carriage appears. Stopping in front of my window, I see the carriage door open, as a man who is the embodiment of power and authority steps out. He is tall, with gray curly hair, wearing an envelope cape, and carrying a small attaché case.412 ¶8

“Moving swiftly, he enters the room, walks over to me and begins to speak of power. As I look at him I recognise you, Neville. Now personified as power, I realise that you are God and you are Neville! Showing no sign of recognition, you continue to talk of power; sheer unadulterated power. Then, as suddenly as you approached, you turned and swiftly made your exit. As though by appointment the carriage appeared, you entered it and vanished from my sight.412 ¶9

“I awoke bewildered, wrote down the experience and returned to bed saying to myself, ‘I must tell this to Neville.’ Instantly I am asleep, redreaming the dream, when my friend Marge Broome appeared. And I am hit in the forehead by a 3-4 inch long, 3/4 inch thick polished topaz, embedded with gold. As we looked at it a man walked over and said: ‘That’s very valuable. You can break it into many pieces and get a lot of money for it.’ That commercial idea appealed to me, so I placed it in my purse and again headed toward your house to tell you of the dream.412 ¶10

“Suddenly I realised Marge was gone, as well as my car, purse, and topaz. Having no transportation, no money, or identification, I said to myself: ‘What do I . . .,’ then I arrested the thought and said: ‘I will go within and imagine I am with Neville.’ Instantly I am in your apartment telling you the dream. As I reach the point of telling how I imagined myself there, the doorbell rang, and a group of gay, happy young boys and girls entered, causing so much confusion I awoke, saying to myself: ‘I will tell him on Monday.’”412 ¶11

Last Monday she brought me the letter! My work is not complete until my Father, in the depth of the soul, calls my twelve. Recognising and applying the truth of my words, this lady was called to witness the embodiment of the Infinite Power. She saw him as the man she knows as Neville – yet she knew he was God. Many see me as a physical man. Few see my true identity, which has unfolded itself in the depth of the soul.412 ¶12

But I am not unique. I know that every child born of woman will one day be called and embraced to become one with the body of God. Then, wearing the form of love, he too will be sent by God. After incorporation into the body of love, I was sent wearing the garment of Jesus Christ – the power and wisdom of Imagination! Now I know myself to be the power which can effect the fulfillment of desire!412 ¶13

Having no friend, car, money, or topaz, this lady remembered the power of which I speak. She exercised it, and instantly – without any form of transportation – found herself in my apartment telling me her dream. Now that is power! There is enormous power in wealth, as well as the atomic bomb; but their power is as a firecracker compared to the power of Imagination. Without any background or degree behind you, you can dwell in any state in your imagination just as though it were true; and in a way no one knows your power will take you (without a topaz, a friend, or a car) into the state of your choice. That is the power I have been sent to tell you about.412 ¶14

This power, personified as Jesus Christ, is vested in man as his Human Imagination. Jesus Christ is he who sent me. He has never left me, so when you see me, you see Him. And when I leave here, I will return to the body of Love.412 ¶15

This lady has been called. She has been faithful to the word and proved it to herself in the far regions of her mind. I have given her the word the Father gave me. She has received it and now knows the truth from personal experience. She saw power, personified as man. She knew he was God, yet the man she knew as Neville. She had to experience this in the depth of her soul in order to know that it was true.412 ¶16

Now, as I tell you another dream, remember: everything, no matter what it is, is a symbol. This lady found herself in a dormitory with many other girls. Each girl held a chart covering twelve days, with each day headed by the first letter of an event she would experience that day. A girl showed her a chart with the letter “K” marking the day, saying her child was to be kidnapped, as she needed that experience. Becoming angry, this lady told the girl she didn’t have to experience these things, that she could revise the day’s experience by using the power of her imagination. As doubt began to permeate the room, she took her own child and left.412 ¶17

After what appeared to be a very long time, this lady returned to find the room now occupied by another, who had removed her books. As she demanded their return, the scene changed, and she is in a room where everyone was singing because her grandmother was coming. Although her grandmother had died in 1962, she appeared to be young, with lots of vitality. They embraced and she could feel the coolness of her grandmother’s skin. Then her body became rigid and as it fell against the lady, she saw the symbolism of the act of love.412 ¶18

This lady has tasted of the power of the age to come, and now sees everything as a symbol and we, merely actors in the play of life. Returning to an old state, she sees it as the same play being repeated with slight modifications. While trying to bring the past back to its former state by replacing her books, she realises it means nothing. And as she sees her grandmother alive, young, vital, and wonderful and recognises the symbolism she represents, her grandmother vanishes from sight.412 ¶19

I have been sent to tell you of a power of which you may be totally unaware. To tell you that you do not need any social, intellectual, or financial background to achieve your goals. Do you realise you could be number one in the social register, have the intelligence of an Einstein and the money of a Rockefeller – yet not reach your objective? And you can have none of these things, yet fulfill your every desire if you will but believe me.412 ¶20

When the question was asked: “What is the work of God?” the answer came: “To believe in him whom he has sent.” This does not mean to believe in Neville as a man, but to believe what I tell you. Divorce the man from the message and believe in my words, for I and my Father are one and the words I speak are those of my Father, who is Jesus Christ.412 ¶21

Knowing his physical origin, Jesus was condemned for always being in the company of tax collectors and sinners. And when they asked him where he came from, he answered: “If I told you, you would not believe me.” When asked: “Who is your father?” he replied: “If you knew me, you would know my father also, but you know neither me nor my father. My father is he who you call God. I know my father and you know not your God.” Then they took up stones and stoned him, because they did not believe his ultimate origin, and saw only his physical one.412 ¶22

I was born in a little island called Barbados. My physical origin can be verified, but my ultimate origin can only be known when he who sent me reveals it. Do you know that the phrase “he who sent me” is placed on the lips of Jesus twenty-five times in the gospel of John; yet no one could understand his words, for they persisted in seeing the physical garment he wore, and not God, the wearer.412 ¶23

Exercise your creative power! Prove the truth of my words in the depth of your being as this lady did. Then you will be called – not on the surface of your mind, for the drama of scripture is supernatural. It takes place while you walk the earth, but in a deeper region of the soul. The disciples, Peter, Andrew, James, or John, were not called while fishing. They are symbolic states of the mind that believed what they heard and were called in the depth of the mind. No man is ever called because of his facial beauty, his social position, or wealth, even though the churches recognise them here.412 ¶24

Have you ever noticed that the best church pews are always reserved for the rich? When I was a boy, we didn’t have much money, but we had a little position, so we had our own pew. Every Sunday morning mother would bring her brood to sit in that pew. Today, reserved or purchased pews are a thing of the past; but even though the name is not allowed, it is still an unwritten law in all the so-called “proper” churches to reserve certain pews for those who have large sums of money. And when the minister sees them there he tears up his prepared sermon and tells them what they want to hear, knowing that if he doesn’t they won’t be back to give him more money.412 ¶25

I know this to be true. In New York City, Saint Luke’s Hospital sits between Saint John the Divine and Saint Thomas Cathedrals. A lady willed two million dollars to Saint Thomas, if Bishop Manning died before her. Otherwise, the hospital (run by the Episcopal church) would receive the money. Well, the old boy outlived her, so Saint Luke’s fell heir to two million dollars. That is what goes on in all of these so-called proper churches and hasn’t a thing to do with being called, or knowing the only true God.412 ¶26

I was sent to tell you that your own wonderful Human Imagination is the real Christ! You will prove this to yourself if you will test yourself and see if you are holding to the faith. My friend tested herself when she found she was denuded of a friend. She had no car, money for a taxi, or topaz to sell; but remembering my words, she went within and as she imagined herself in my home she was instantly there. Having met the test, she is called.412 ¶27

This lady had a double dream, which means that the thing is fixed by God and will shortly come to pass. Being doubled, the dream contains a double jet of truth which is: she met the test, and she entered the circle. I do not feel it will be long before I will vanish, leaving not a trace behind. This cannot happen, however, until I have finished the work I was given to do. Only then can I ask my Father to return me to the glory that was mine, the glory I possessed before that the world was.412 ¶28

I, Imagination, came out from the Father. That is pre-existence! Entering the world, I now wear a garment of flesh in order to form a nucleus of those who believe in their Human Imagination. They will reach the seventy, then the 144, and go on from there. I take comfort in her vision, for it indicates that my work is finished and departure will shortly come to pass.412 ¶29

Believe me! The story of how God became man that man may become God, is the most glorious story ever told. But man must be constantly reminded that this God is his imagination, and the powerhouse of the world!412 ¶30

Infinite power resides in your Imagination. You could be in prison and imagine yourself free. Believing in the reality of your imaginal act, it would make no difference to you how you are released. But when it happens and you find yourself where you imagined you were, you will have tested and recognized the infinite power you are. Imagining, you set yourself free; and when God sets you free, you are free indeed.412 ¶31

Jesus never violated the law of Caesar. Looking at a coin he said: “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s. If Caesar wants more taxes, ask your heavenly Father to provide more money for you by imagining you have it.” Your heavenly Father, who dwells within you, has the power to set you free, while a god believed to be on the outside will enslave you.412 ¶32

In the book of 1 Samuel, the story is told of how the people, wanting to be like all the others, desired to have a leader over them. Then Samuel said: “A king will take your sons from you for his army. He will take your maid servants, your male servants, your daughters and your money. And when he has taken everything from you, he will take you. In that day he will enslave you as he has all the others. Then you will cry out to be saved from a god of your own choosing, but in that day I will have no ears to hear you.” In spite of the warning the people chose Saul, who enslaved them exactly as the prophet Samuel had foretold.412 ¶33

You want a king? A dictator? A saviour on the outside? You are free to choose one, but I will prophesy for you: Any power outside of yourself will enslave you! Knowing that he embodies infinite power, Jesus turned to those who seised him and said: “Do you think I cannot now pray to my Father and he will send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then can scripture be fulfilled, that it must be so?”412 ¶34

I came into the world, promising the one who sent me (which is myself) that I would subject myself to all the limitations of the flesh and drink the cup of experience, until time proves that I am God, and own the world. Knowing who I am, I have the power to call forth twelve legions of angels, but I will drink this experience to the last drop. Then – having done exactly what I was commissioned to do – I will return to Him who sent me, who will say: “Enter, my faithful servant, into the joy of the Lord.” And there is no joy like being once more reincorporated into the body of love!412 ¶35

Now let us go into the silence.412 ¶36

Salvation History

This is a question that is often asked. When I make the statement that it is God’s purpose to give himself to us, to all of us, as though there were no other in the world just you—because when God gives himself, it’s not you and God, you are God, well, how is that possible? That is the question that is constantly asked. How could the God who created this vast infinite universe and all within it, and sustains it, give himself to the individual…this little insignificant thing that is born in time and dies in time? How is it possible? Well, tonight I’ll make every effort to explain this mystery.411 ¶1

I will now imagine that I have with me a very devout Christian who knows his Bible, Old and New Testaments, and so I will simply ask him a few questions and imagine his answers if he knows scripture. So I must first say he knows his scripture and then ask him these questions. Do you believe in Jesus Christ? Well, as a devout Christian certainly he believes in Jesus Christ. “Do you speak of him as the Lord?” Yes, he would say, as the Lord. And then, he said, “I and my father are one,” and by father he meant the Creator of the universe. “Do you believe that?” Well, if he is a devout Christian and raised in the tradition, he would have to say yes to that. And “that when you see me, you have seen the Father?” He would have to say yes to that, for all these are parts of scripture and scripture cannot be broken. This is the Word of God and the Word of God is truth. So he would say yes to that.411 ¶2

And then he said that “No one could enter into the kingdom of heaven unless he be born from above.” Would you say that he is in heaven now? And to that, undoubtedly he would say yes. Well then, was he born from above? Well, his Word cannot be broken and if the only entrance into heaven is by birth from above, well then, he would have to be born from above. For in scripture he said he encountered David in the Spirit, and David in the Spirit called him “my Lord.” Do you recall that? If he knows scripture, he would have to say yes to that. Well, is it not said in scripture, and David said, “I will tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to me, ‘You are my son, today I have begotten you.’” And so, he called him “my Lord,” and my Lord called him “my son,” in the 2nd Psalm . Therefore, although he said, “my Lord,” he really said “my Father,” because he said “Thou art my son,” and therefore if David is his son by decree of the 2nd Psalm, and then he called him “my Lord,” he’s calling him “my Father,” is he not? He would have to say yes to that.411 ¶3

Then, if I said to him, is it not said in scripture that unlike all the sacrifices that men make year after year without any changes of consciousness, and they make all the sacrifices but it doesn’t change the conscience of man…but this one makes a supreme sacrifice and his sacrifice, when made, split the entire curtain of the temple, which was his own body, from top to bottom and the took into the Holy of Holies his own blood, would you say yes to that? Well, it’s in scripture in the 10th chapter of Hebrews . You read it in the very end of all the gospels, where from the top to the bottom the curtain was split. But the 10th of Hebrews tells you that curtain was his body…and he took with him into the Holy of Holies his own blood and not the blood of an ox or a lamb or something other than himself. Yes. Now, did not the Holy Spirit—he is the Holy Spirit himself—descend upon him in the form of a dove and remain upon him? Yes. Well, this is all part of the history of Jesus Christ, is it not? A man’s history is made up of the events that he has experienced. That’s a man’s history. If he hasn’t experienced it, it is all hearsay. But all that I have just said to you and asked you and I got your affirmative answers, then this constitutes the history of Jesus Christ, and you say he is the Lord.411 ¶4

Now let me say that only when this history which is salvation history invades time do we really know the meaning of life in time. Here is salvation history and it invades time. It invades you walking in time, and you are born, and you die. You’re restored to life to die, restored to life to die, restored to life to die, and it goes on forever until this divine history of salvation invades time and then this history becomes your history. It’s your autobiography.411 ¶5

Well, if this is the history of the Lord and then it becomes your history, are you not the Lord? So here is an eternal history, the history of salvation. And it’s finished, it’s all over. The only history that’s continuing is human history; and it’s still the same violence in the world of death, for all things in time begin and end. They all die. They appear, they wax, they wane and they disappear. As Hamlet’s mother said to him—you read it in the very first act, I think it’s the second scene—“All that lives must die… passing through nature to eternity.” But she didn’t console him. The father was murdered and he suspected that she was the party and not the only one in the act of murdering his father. But she, to console him, said, “All that lives must die… passing through nature”—this is the world of nature—“to eternity”…but not until the salvation history, the history of salvation invades time and possesses the individual. Not collectively…it doesn’t possess humanity. It comes in and possesses the individual, and the individual experiences these and they are his own experience, and this is salvation history belonging only to eternity. So he is taken up from Time in which it is eternal death into eternity by the experience of the history of salvation. So that’s how God becomes man that man may become God.411 ¶6

So this individual will say to you, “Did you ask me all these questions to test my knowledge of scripture?” No, I trusted you implicitly. I believe that you are a devout Christian and that you actually know your scripture. I didn’t ask these questions of you to test your knowledge of scripture. I was just seeking another witness to two other witnesses. For I have the scripture and the scripture is an external witness; my internal experience is another witness, and now you confirm this history. Well, it happens to be my autobiography, therefore, who am I? I’ve been seeking who I am, and having had the scripture unfold within me and that scripture is salvation history, and it becomes my own personal life, well then, who am I? “And this is life eternal, to know thee the only true God” . So if I have found him in this manner and found him not as another but as myself, though I still walk the earth limited as I must continue to be limited until the very end when it is taken off, I know at the end of taking this off I am my history, and my history is the history of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, as told in scripture, “There’s only one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one God and Father of all” . Well, having experienced the only history of salvation, I am that one body, that one Spirit, that one Lord, that one God and Father of all.411 ¶7

But although it’s unique in my case, it’s not exclusive: All will receive this invasion of this history of salvation. So as it comes in and possesses the individual, that individual’s time in the world of death has come to an end. That’s how God gives himself to man that man may become God. Although there are billions of us in the world, what does it matter? Everyone will have this invasion. We will be invaded by a history and it will possess him, and it will become his own personal experience. Well, if I can say I have experienced all these things that are now recorded in scripture as the experiences of the central figure called Jesus Christ, well then, let us go back to see was it believed.411 ¶8

No, it wasn’t believed then because they knew him. Isn’t he the carpenter’s son? Isn’t he Mary’s son? Don’t we know his brothers and his sisters and they are with us today? And how can he come claiming that he came down from heaven? How can he claim that the presence called God is his Father and goes beyond that to claim that I and my Father are one? Because salvation history possessed the individual! So here, he inspired the prophets and came in to fulfill his own prophecy; for the Old Testament is simply a prophetic book of all that must take place in order for man to be redeemed. Then comes the New Testament which is the story of redemption and this is how it takes place in the world.411 ¶9

So here, if someone would say to you, “How on earth could infinite being give itself to a finite man?” By man I mean generic man, male-female. How could he? Well, then you can tell him that there is such a thing as the history of salvation, the history of redemption. It’s spelled out for us in the New Testament in the story of the life of Jesus Christ. He had an unnatural birth…it was a peculiar, unnatural birth, a birth from above. And then, this same one encountered the one of whom the Lord said, “Thou art my son, today I have begotten thee” and established a son. Therefore, by establishing a son, he establishes fatherhood. Without a son there is no father. If there’s a father, there must be a son, so the son is established and it is David. And then you go through the entire series of these major events in the life of the one who personifies the history of salvation. And then, you tell the story…the most incredible story in the world. But I ask you to believe it, for I know from my own personal experience it is true. I’ve experienced it.411 ¶10

Believe it. It will not only become possible and thinkable but really likely in the not distant future. For no one is telling it in this form today, and as scripture tells us, “No one comes unto me save my Father calls him.” So no one gravitates here who is not on the verge of it, no one.411 ¶11

In the 6th chapter of John, those who heard it and could not accept it, they departed never to walk with him again. He said, “Alright, but you can’t follow me if my Father isn’t calling you.” There are things yet to be experienced in the world of time, more horrors, because the world of time is the world of horror, the world of death, the world of disappointment. The most loving couple in the world must, you don’t have to dwell upon it, but if they have a brain in their heads they must know it is inevitable that one will depart and leave the other…unless they go together…that all unions in the world must separate through the gate called death. So the most loving couple or relationship—father to son or mother to son or to daughter—they must come to parting through the gate called death; therefore, no matter how marvelous it is, it dissolves.411 ¶12

We are now watching the complete dissolution of the British Empire. For 300 years it ruled the world. The sun never set on the Empire, never. When it rose here and setting elsewhere, it was always on some part of the British Empire. Now it’s only little tiny England, the size of New York state. We are living in the day of the complete dissolution of the British Empire. It dissolved right before our eyes. They were so proud for 300 years and their contributions in literature and law will still last and last and last. But even it will simply have its day. We today in our might, this enormous power that is America, well now, we feel that because of vastness of the continent it couldn’t happen to us. I’ll prophesy for you: it will happen to us. It will happen to Russia, it will happen to China, it’ll happen to every land in the world. For this is the world of death…not only individuals, but families and traditions and all kinds of things. All things die in this world. And the only solution is God’s plan that was in eternity.411 ¶13

Now let me speak of this eternal state. Don’t think of eternity as duration. It has little to do with duration. It is qualitative rather than quantitative. It is not adding unto…it describes not so much the length of life as the kind of life that it is: It’s a creative life where you are God when you enter eternity. Here all things, no matter how you build it up, it’s going to come to an end. Today there are people in our world, right here in our country, individuals with assets in excess of two billion dollars. I’m not speaking of corporations. I’m speaking of individuals with assets in excess of two billion. And one, at the age of seventy-six, is still trying to increase it. The other at the age of fifty-six or fifty-eight is still trying to increase it. They can’t buy happiness with all the billions that they have. In the not distant future, as things move, they’ll all depart and leave it all behind to be wasted by those who didn’t earn it. It is inevitable…it happens all over the world. They can’t stop it; they can’t take it with them. They’ve been trying that forever…to find some way of taking it with them and so far they haven’t found it out. They can’t do it.411 ¶14

So here, in this world of ours, all things begin and end. But there is no death even though it appears to be death. They are restored instantly just as they were only younger. At death, as we see it, they are not dead to themselves; it’s only to us who see them depart and can’t follow. But to themselves they are not dead; they are restored to life, same body only new, nothing missing, new and young. It’s young and new and not one little part is missing. They go on and they get older where they are, and they depart. To those who are left behind they seem to be dead—again to be restored and again unaccountably new in a world just like this, terrestrial, in a body same as before, and they go on and on and on. That’s not being born again; that’s being restored and restored. But the birth from above is something entirely different and it happens and you cannot deny it when it happens to you. Then comes the sign of the birth, and that sign is the little infant wrapped in swaddling clothes as told in scripture .411 ¶15

So the story of how God this infinite being can give himself to me this tiny little thing…well, he does it by putting into time, where I exist, his story of salvation. The story of salvation invades me and possesses me; then it unfolds itself in me and it becomes my history, my autobiography. So you read it in the Bible of another. It’s no “other”…after that it’s your own story, for this is exactly what happened to me. “But isn’t he the butcher’s son?” for my father had a butcher shop. Isn’t he the butcher’s son? Isn’t he the carpenter’s son? Isn’t he the grocery man’s son?—for my father was a grocer. No matter how he expanded in this world in business, he still began with a meat shop. So, you can tell anyone in the world if they ask that question of you, as this lady asked of me, “How on earth is it possible?” Well, it’s the most incredible story in the world. How could God become man that man may become God? Well, he only becomes man by invading man with his history, for this is the history of God as described in the story and that is God’s personal history. It’s contained in eternity…eternity has neither beginning nor end; therefore it is something that is forever. It is ever taking place. It should be written in the imperative passive mood by saying “Thy will must be being done”—something to be done absolutely and continuously, the imperative passive mood.411 ¶16

So, because it is eternal, it is actually something to be done absolutely and continuously. And who knows who this night will be possessed by this invasion of the history of salvation? It comes like thief in the night, out of the blue, and you’re possessed. You find yourself waking from a long, long sleep and you find yourself being born from above. You find the symbol of your birth in the form of a little child wrapped in swaddling clothes. You find the evidence there and witnesses to it. Even to them it seems incredible. You hold the evidence in your hand which is the child. Well, if the child is placed in the hands of one called Mary, well then, who is Mary? Didn’t you hold it? And if the one that it symbolizes is the Savior and the only Savior in scripture is the Lord God Jehovah, as told us in the 43rd and the 45th chapters of Isaiah: “I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior” ; “And beside me there is no Savior” . So the words Jesus and Jehovah are the same in meaning. So who was born? God was born and this is the manner in which he is born and this is his history. So he comes down to earth invading time, for we are in time, and lifts us out of time into eternity, leaving us here for a while where the glory that is ours is hidden by the garments that we wear, to tell it until that moment in time when we depart for the last time and never to return to this.411 ¶17

But, not to gloat! Because there’s only one and so everyone that comes up is the same one: It is only God redeeming himself. So in the end it’s only God. When we are told there’s only one body, one Spirit, one Lord, and one God and Father of all , you are that one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one God and Father of all. The wisdom that possesses you when you completely take off the veil will be the one that created the whole vast universe. And this dream will prove to be really a blessing…the horror of it all. So we came into the world for a purpose, a divine purpose, and all enter this world. As you’re told, if we didn’t enter it willingly at least we enter it. And all will be lifted out of it, redeemed by the history of salvation.411 ¶18

Believe it! It’s the most glorious story! But man couldn’t imagine it. First of all, it’s incredible…to him it doesn’t make sense. So the story is told to the world; they hear it and they’ll go along believing it in a strange way. So when you tell it from this angle, few will listen; and even the few who do listen, from that few many will depart, because they can’t see it. Don’t expect them to, really. Just tell it and leave it. It’s a little seed. They will toy with it, dwell upon it, and maybe they will begin to come closer and closer to it. Because God has put into the heart of man eternity, and then he has put into man a thirst that only eternity can satisfy. So he puts eternity into the heart of man and then a thirst for that eternity, and only eternity can satisfy that thirst. So “God will send a hunger, a famine, upon the world; it will not be a famine for bread, nor a thirst for water, but for the hearing of the word of God” .411 ¶19

So you start to tell the word of God and they aren’t interested. “Turn it off! Let’s get a little jazz music here instead,” and so they turn on a little jazz music and turn off the word of God. You go into a home, try to find a Bible…and if there is a Bible, is it read? If it is read, is it understood? So at confirmation you might give a Bible and there it remains a closed book from then on. It’s not read and if read certainly not with understanding. So there is the closed book. And when you start to discuss the Bible, the first thing they tell you is don’t discuss religion or politics. These things you must not discuss. Even in the barber shop it’s not religion…it may be politics if they know who you are. When he starts cutting your hair and he knows who you are and what side of the street, he will discuss it in your favor. Right behind you he’s going to get on the other fella’s side, and he gets all opinions, but he doesn’t get religion. That’s the one thing he shies from completely. It’s not discussed. But the day will come, he will send upon you…well, when he sends upon the world, the land, you are the land—Adam means “red earth.” He will send upon you a hunger, a thirst, and it will not be a hunger for bread or a thirst for water, but for the hearing of the word of God. Then, not a thing in this world can satisfy that hunger but an experience of God. To have an experience of God, you get an invasion of the history of salvation; it comes in and possesses you.411 ¶20

Then you become the story; everything said in scripture you fulfill. So you’re told in scripture, “I have come to fulfill scripture; and beginning with Moses and the law and the prophets and the psalms, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself” . And so, he takes the whole book and only things concerning himself. I receive a letter in the morning…not every word is significant, but throughout the letter there are significant points. I extract that which has meaning. And there are many points that you have to use like a scaffolding to build, but you don’t give significance to that which is the scaffolding. So you write a letter…well, the whole Bible is like that letter…not everything has significance…but there are moments. Here is meaning, there’s meaning here, meaning here…what is he trying to say? So he points out the meaning of scripture, using the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms, and he interpreted in all the scriptures the things concerning himself: “For in the volume of the book it was all about me,” in the 40th Psalm . The whole book is all about me.411 ¶21

Well, we read it and think it refers to Jesus Christ…and it does…but we do not know who he is. Yet we are told in scripture “Jesus Christ is in you” . Well, one day the contact is made, that invasion is made, and then he rises in us. All that is said of him in scripture is now being experienced in the individual, and he is the book, so he has fulfilled scripture. So the whole vast book comes to an end on what note?—the very end, the 22nd chapter of Revelation, “Come, Lord Jesus” . Of course the last verse is only a benediction, “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.” But the actual climax is the 20th verse where it is said, “Come, Lord Jesus”…come, invade me, invade me, possess me and unfold this history of salvation within me, that I and you will not be two any more but one . I’m not watching you on the outside, I’ve become the being. Though I walk the earth with all the weaknesses, all the limitations of the flesh, I nevertheless have fulfilled scripture. So this is the unfolding of scripture in the individual.411 ¶22

You take it to heart. When you go out, you dwell upon it. I tell you it is the only salvation in the world. Tonight, thousands, tens of thousands, will die—either violently if they are in war or in accidents, or naturally—to find themselves instantly restored to life. Haven’t died at all…only to those who saw them go…in a world that is terrestrial just like this. In bodies physical just like this, same body as before only now new and wonderful and nothing missing. They will love each other, and may I tell you, they marry, just like this. It’s the same world. Yes, they marry.411 ¶23

Read it carefully in the Bible: Did not Moses say that if a man marries, leaves no offspring, and then he dies, his brother should take her to wife and raise up a family for his brother. Well, there were seven brothers. The first one married and died…no offspring. The second took her, he died, no offspring. The third took her…they all took her and left no offspring. Now, whose wife is she in the resurrection? And he answered, “You do not know scripture” —“For in this age they marry and they are given in marriage; but those who are accounted worthy to attain that age, the age of the resurrection, they neither marry nor are they given in marriage, for they can die no more, for they are now sons of the resurrection, sons of God” . And the son of God is one with God. Father and Son are one.411 ¶24

So after they are resurrected from this state of death, they die no more; therefore, they marry no more. But until then, they do exactly what they are doing here—they fall in love, and they marry, and they move through the world just like this, and they get old and depart. You have the same phoniness there that we have here. They have cemeteries there making money for people—burying things that do not die—as we do here. If you and I knew and got in on the ground floor of Forest Lawn, we could sit back today and just clip coupons, playing on the gullibility of people, because no one who dies goes there. You might just as well take this suit of clothes that I am wearing now and when it wears out go to Forest Lawn and say, “Give me a plot to bury it”…just the same thing. Because this little garment of flesh and blood is the garment that I wear as I wear this on it. And, why…I’m not going to buy a little plot to put the suit in, so why buy the plot to put the little garment in? But it goes on here and it goes on there, the same phoniness, all making a quick dollar. And they make a quick dollar here, too, and play the same part all over and over.411 ¶25

Well, wouldn’t that be the most horrible thing in the world if it went on forever! No, God in his infinite mercy invades time and redeems man. He steps beyond and redeems man in the one body, the body of the Lord Jesus Christ. So everyone is redeemed in one body and so in the end there is only one body, and that one body is the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Lord Jesus Christ is Jehovah. There is no being other than Jehovah that is the Lord, so all are redeemed eventually.411 ¶26

So believe me, I am speaking from experience; I am not theorizing, I’m not here speculating. Let the whole vast world speculate as to what man is going to be. They’re trying to make him a better man. I tell you, alright be a better man for the little while if it makes you feel better. You find all kinds of things in the world—diets to make you healthier, diets to make you prettier, diets to do this—well, if you really want to be that go on the diets and become as foolish as the others…because they all die anyway.411 ¶27

They were going to bury my father for years and years because he drank heavily. He lived to be eighty-five. He and Churchill were pals. When Churchill came home, the one person he wanted was my father. They both had a good, wonderful thirst. Churchill lived to be ninety, my father lived to be eighty-five, and all the doctors who were going to bury him they died on the way. My father delighted in going to funerals…went to them all…saw them all going into the little ground, while he drank heartily. Wasn’t a very heavy eater but a very virile, vital person…hadn’t a thing to do with his drinking. Now today they have all of these things…you mustn’t do this, you mustn’t do that, mustn’t do the other. I think Churchill was smoking a cigar when he died…just about twenty a day…at the age of ninety. He might have gone a little senile, but time will do that. It wasn’t his cigars and it wasn’t his Scotch…it was simply time. At the age of ninety who shouldn’t be a little bit senile.411 ¶28

And so the memory slips. I’ve seen people in their forties with memory slipping; they hit sixty and all of a sudden they can’t remember. My brother who died at the age of sixty-three was a doctor, and when I went home a couple of years ago just before he made his exit, he said, “Neville, how is your memory?” I said, fine, for the things I want to remember. He said, “Like what?” I said, the Bible, poetry. Poetry is my passion, the Bible is my passion, but the trivia that you see in the papers…I couldn’t tell you what the headline was this morning yet I read this morning’s paper. I couldn’t tell you anything in it. It is simply the same paper reprinted differently over and over and over. So I read it every morning, but I couldn’t tell you anything. But the Bible…I read the Bible this day…I spent five, maybe six hours in the Bible, and a couple of hours in poetry. These things I remember. And he said, “Well, that’s where I’m failing, I’m failing, I can’t remember. Things are slipping from me.” One thing he could remember, he’s a doctor, all things concerning the human body. Ask him anything concerning the body instantly it all came back…the remedy for the thing that he would suggest if you had this or that or the other, instantly. So my brother was, up to the very last, alert concerning what interested him, which was the human body. But he faded and at sixty-two he made his exit from this world.411 ¶29

And yet, his father who drank heavily—and he was the one who warned him he should never drink any more—and Daddy kept on doing it. One day he said to me, “You know, your mother would give anything to see this day. I’ve given up drinking.” I said, “You have, Daddy?” “Yes.” So I told my brother Victor, Daddy has given up drinking. He said, “When, this morning?” And it was…he didn’t have it before breakfast. So he gave it up. Daddy said, “Your Mother would have loved to see this day” when he didn’t start the day with a good, big shot…that’s what he meant…giving up drinking. But he kept on going, this virile, wonderful, strapping man. So it hasn’t a thing to do…as the Bible teaches, if your drinking is going to offend someone, to offend them in their presence, well then, don’t, just stop it, don’t offend them. But don’t because of their offense stop it yourself if you have any pleasure in it. For you’re told in scripture, “I know, and I am persuaded by the Lord Christ Jesus, that there is nothing unclean in itself; but to anyone to whom it is unclean, to him it is unclean.” And so, that is scripture, the 14th chapter, the 14 verse of Romans.411 ¶30

And so I tell you, be as free as the wind, live nobly, live in your Imagination. Dwell only in your Imagination on all the lovely things in the world, for yourself and for others. For you’re going to find, eventually, there is no “other.” There seem to be others now as you look out on the world, there seem to be so many. I will tell you, there is really no other; there is only yourself and that self is God. You’re going to prove it. And yet without loss of identity all will be that one God, the one who created the whole vast world and sustains it.411 ¶31

Therefore, in the end no matter what you’ve done…and may I tell you, without God’s infinite mercy, you couldn’t live with the memory of things you have done. For you didn’t begin a few years ago when you came here; you’ve been traveling for unnumbered, unnumbered years, centuries. You’ve done all the violent, horrible things in the world; and God in his infinite mercy has you lose the memory of your past, or you couldn’t live with yourself. In the end when he invades you with his eternal history of salvation, all your past is completely wiped out as though it never was, completely wiped out. So this is for a purpose and whatever you’ve done is completely gone, and you are completely redeemed with no memory of the horror that is this world of time. This is time, where all things begin and end; and heaven is eternity, it has no beginning or end, it just is. So the history of salvation wasn’t composed by God, it was always so. It was always his plan to insert it into time and redeem humanity.411 ¶32

Now let us go into the silence.411 ¶33

Until Friday…thank you.411 ¶38

Summary Article Name Neville Goddard Lectures: “Salvation History Invades Time” Description But don’t try to do anything to yourself. Just live the most normal wonderful life. What greater relationship in this world is there than between man and woman! You might find either in the man or the woman hell or you may find heaven. I had the good fortune to find both. Luckily, my second one was heaven and not reversed. So I had the good fortune to find in the second attempt at this greatest relationship in the world, which is man and woman, I found happiness. But in my first, well, she might have found a devil too, I don’t know. But it was certainly everything but heaven. I still would not undo it. It was part of the experience of living in the world of death…and this is it.411 ¶40

What is the basis of keeping the priests, the fathers celibate? Well, that is not an old custom of the Catholic world; that is of recent vintage. After all, Pope Alexander the 6th was the father of Caesar Borgia and Lucrezia Borgia, and he made his son, Caesar, a cardinal at the age of nineteen. So this goes a way back. Alexander the 6th was the father of Cardinal Borgia. He was a Borgia before he was made pope and he took the title of Alexander VI. So in your Encyclopedia Britannica you will find Alexander VI, the father of Caesar Borgia and Lucrezia Borgia. Their names are identified today with poison. They rubbed out all their opponents, whether imagined opponents or actual opponents to them they poisoned them. So their name today has become synonymous with poison, the Borgias. Yet they were the offspring of Alexander VI, so that this so-called celibacy doesn’t go back. In the Bible we speak of Peter’s wife, and if Peter is the foundation of the Catholic Church as it claims, then the foundation had a wife.411 ¶35

Well, Tom, they could. I doubt it, I doubt it. They believe that if you simply bottle up the energy that is going down into generation that you could in some way reverse it into regeneration. You can’t do it, you just can’t do it. That is an act of the splitting of the temple. When that curtain is split from top to bottom, your whole body is split; and then you see the whole energy that was at the base of the spine, that living, wonderful, golden liquid light. You merge with it. You are the observer, and you merge with it, and you are it. Then you go like a serpent right up into your head. So the serpent descending is generation…that’s the symbol of it; the serpent ascending is regeneration. “So as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up” and he calls himself the Son of man. So only as it’s reversed into regeneration…but you can’t by anything known to man you can’t reverse it. Not until the history of salvation is simply invading you and possesses you, and then it’s part of the history of salvation. But any attempt to reverse it by diets or sitting in the silence and doing all these things or bottling it up, no. You’re told in scripture there are three kinds of celibates. Some are born that way; nature did not complete the organ and they’re born that way. Then there are those who are made eunuchs by those who employ them, like the great pharaohs of the ancient world, and they would take those who protected or guarded their harem and castrate them. So they castrated these men that they would become docile and not interfere with their harem. Then there are those who make themselves eunuchs for the kingdom’s sake…they castrate themselves. One of the earliest father’s of the Christian church, Origen, who in church history was an influential, in fact, he was the most influential up until, well, a hundred years after his death. He laid the foundation for the Catholic Church, Origen. He castrated himself in the hope that by such an act that he could achieve the kingdom. Well, you can’t! He didn’t want to be disturbed when he taught women the mystery. That is what is said in the book and you’ll find his history in the Encyclopedia Britannica, that he castrated himself. He is one of the most influential of the early fathers of the church. Augustine came 100 years after his death and he lived in the 2nd century. Augustine came, I think it was 350; I think Origen died in 250, so 100 years later came Augustine. But although he may be considered the most prominent of the early fathers, still before his day by 100 years was Origen. He performed the act as told in the Bible: There are those who are born this way, those who are made it by men, and those who do it unto themselves. But you can’t stop it. It’s a power; it’s the serpent in man as it were…Christ in man with his head down, crucified with his head down. That is the generative power in the world and you can’t stop it. But the day will come, without any effort on your part it will be completely reversed and all the energies go right up, and not a thing you can do about it. From then on all the energies are turned up and now it is regeneration instead of generation. That is the third great act in the unfolding of the story of salvation. The birth comes first; the discovery of David as our Son of God and he calls you Father second; then comes this act; then comes the descent of the dove. These four major acts constitute the history of salvation and they come within a period of three-and-one half- years just as told in scripture—his ministry was three-and-a-half years. So whenever it possesses you, invades you, watch it: Three-and-one-half years and it’s over. But you remain to tell the story that you may encourage all who the Father within you—and you become the Father now—draws to you. Like a magnet you draw them and you tell it. Some will hear it and leave, never to return; others will hear it and become thirsty for the experience, and only that experience can satisfy that thirst. They are the ones who in the immediate future will be possessed by the history of salvation. But don’t try to do anything to yourself. It was part of the experience of living in the world of death…and this is it.411 ¶37

God's Creative Power

W e are told in the Book of Exodus: “God said to Moses, ‘I AM the I AM. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name I AM I did not make myself known to them.’” And if you read the 1st chapter, the 24th verse of 1 Corinthians, you will discover that the I AM (the creative power of God) is personified as Jesus Christ! Now you and I are called upon to find this creative power. The Christian world claims to believe in Christ, but they do not know him for he must be found. This challenge is given in scripture. “Examine yourselves to make sure you are holding to the faith. Test yourselves!” If you want to find Jesus Christ you must test yourself! Are you really convinced that Jesus Christ is in you? Have you tested him? If you have and are still not sure, then you have failed the test.410 ¶1

Ask the highest leader of the Christian faith down to the lowest if he believes that Jesus Christ is in him, and if he is not convinced that the creative power of the universe is within and personalised as himself, then he has failed to meet the test regardless of what his man-made rank may be. You can attend all the churches in the world, give to the sick and poor on the outside, but if you do not know from experience that Jesus Christ is in you, you have failed the test. I tell you that Jesus Christ is your own wonderful human imagination, who is the eternal creative power of God. If you do not know that, you do not know Jesus Christ!410 ¶2

You may say: “He is a person.” Well, you are a person, aren’t you? Jesus Christ is God the Father and God the Father is Spirit, and those who worship him do so in Sprit through the art of feeling! I have imagined a state and seen it externalise itself and become a physical fact that I may share with another. This I have done unnumbered times and taught others to do it. So I have found him and know him to be the only creative power of the universe. Everything in your world which is now a fact to be shared with others was once only imagined. And if you know that Jesus Christ is the creative power that brings things into this world, that all things must be first imagined, then you have found him.410 ¶3

Having found him, you must learn to trust him and live by this principle. Do this and you will find yourself moving into the stream of eternal life by fulfilling scripture and knowing that “All power in heaven and earth is given unto me.” The true meaning of power is “effectiveness in achieving a purpose.” Today as a nation we have the power of the atom bomb, but are not willing to use it because it is not our objective to wipe out cities; so where is the power that could bring about our purpose? Man does not know Jesus Christ, therefore he thinks there is power in nuclear energy, in money, in his intellectual or social position; but the only power is Jesus Christ who is the human Imagination!410 ¶4

I was born and raised in a Christian environment, yet I did not learn this truth in Sunday school, in church, or at home. I was taught to believe in a being outside of myself. Some person who was born two thousand years ago who was crucified on a wooden cross by people who did not believe he was the Son of God. This is the story my mother taught me as her mother had taught her. The story comes down this way, yet it is not the true story of scripture. I tell you a mystery: Christ in you is the hope of glory, for God, your human imagination, became man that man may become God. This is a mystery that we are called upon to test, for the power that created the world became as you are, that you may know yourself to be all creative power, as He is!410 ¶5

I did not receive this knowledge from a man. I did not read it in a book, nor did I ever hear of it from another. It was revealed to me that God, in man, is his own wonderful human imagination! Having no place to turn, or no one to turn to, I began to experiment; and as it proved itself in the testing, I found myself fulfilling scripture. Instead of another, I was playing the central role fulfilling the only belief! Then I began to tell it and those who heard and believed began to test themselves, and as they did, they moved into the mainstream and scripture fulfilled itself in them.410 ¶6

We are told: “Remain in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” Scripture personifies this fantastic power as Jesus Christ, but man is taught that Jesus Christ is some distinct individual outside of himself and turns to him to grant his wishes and respond to his prayers. Then one day man hears who Jesus Christ really is, and turning to no one on the outside, God reveals himself to that man as I AM.410 ¶7

God said to Moses: “I made myself known unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name I AM I did not make myself known to them.” If God’s name forever and forever is I AM, how can you look outside of self? You cannot point to another and say: “I AM.” You can observe this or do that, but you cannot point to another when you say: “I am.” Having revealed himself as Almighty Power, then I AM, God’s third revelation, is that of Father. And if God is a Father, he must have a Son.410 ¶8

The world has been taught to believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, but I know from revelation that Jesus Christ is God Himself. There is a son, however, as told us so clearly in the 2nd Psalm. That son is David, who says: “I will tell of the decree of the Lord. He said unto me, ‘Thou art my son, today I have begotten thee.’” I tell you scripture does not record secular history, but supernatural history. Its message is sacred and hasn’t a thing to do with anything that took place in a secular manner.410 ¶9

Yesterday I read where someone in Ohio, who claimed he had traced his background back to David, died at the age of 84 or 85. Of all the nonsense of the world, if he meant it secularly. David is not a character of human history, but the eternal state one enters when he believes in God’s power as his own imagination, exercises it, and enters the mainstream and awakens. Personifying God’s creative power, David will stand before you and call you Father, revealing you to be one with your creative power.410 ¶10

Listen to these words carefully: “The high priest said to Jesus, ‘Are you the Christ, the Son of Blessed?’ And Jesus answered, ‘I am, and you will see the son of man sitting at the right hand of Power.’” This he said in fulfillment of the 100th Psalm: “The Lord said unto my lord, ‘Sit at my right hand til I make your enemies your footstool.’” Here we see Power equated with a man!410 ¶11

So God’s first revelation is that of sheer power. Then comes his name, I AM, which is followed by his true character, which is that of a Father who loves. It is God’s purpose to give himself to everyone, and – being a Father – when he gives himself to you he gives you Fatherhood. First he gives you Power, then the awareness of being that power as you test yourself.410 ¶12

Now I ask you to examine yourself. When confronted with a problem, do you turn to someone on the outside for its solution, or do you believe that all power resides in your human imagination? Do you believe in the hydrogen bomb, meeting the right people, or living on the “right” side of the street? Or do you believe in your own wonderful human imagination? I have found he of whom Moses and the law wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, to be my human imagination and I turn only to him for the solution of my problems. I do it by asking myself what I would see if my problem dissolved and its solution rose in its place. What would I hear? How would I act? Having discovered Jesus to be my imagination, I act as though the problem was solved, and have found from experience that I have brought things not seen by mortal eye into the world to be seen by all. I have proved it and encourage everyone to try it.410 ¶13

Examine yourself to make sure, really sure, that you have completely accepted Jesus Christ as your human imagination, so that when confronted by any challenge you turn to the only Jesus Christ and not to a false one. If you turn to anyone outside of yourself you have turned to a false Jesus Christ and failed the test. Turn only to God and not to anyone or anything on the outside. No one can tell your future, for your future is to fulfill Scripture, and you have no other!410 ¶14

I received a letter last week from a lady, who said: “In the dream I knew I was twenty years old, just married, and living in the Basque country among the shepherds. My husband was driving an old truck. I sat next to him with my sister-in-law next to me. In the rear sat my brother-in-law with my father-in-law directly behind me. Having spent the night on a mountain top, we travel over dusty, rugged mountainous roads as I become very tired and weak. My father-in-law had authority over everything, and knowing the way, he said: ‘Just one more curve and we will be home.’ As the final curve is completed I see a heavenly valley covered with green grass and a sparkling, crystal-clear river flowing through it. In the distance I see a beautiful home with barns and flocks of white sheep. Two shepherds are there with their crooks, their dogs, and a flock of geese. Then I turn around, and as I face my father-in-law I see he has suddenly grown tall and young. As I look at him I remember having seen that face somewhere in the dim, dim eternity. Then the face became brilliant and as I dissolved into the brilliance, I awoke.”410 ¶15

In this letter my friend played the part of Tamar, as told us in the 38th chapter of the Book of Genesis. Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, is listed in the genealogy of Jesus Christ: “Abraham begat Isaac, Isaac begat Jacob, Jacob begat Judah and his brothers.” In the story, Judah left his brothers, married outside, and had three sons. Choosing Tamar for his first son, Er, who displeased Jehovah and was killed, Judah told his second son to marry her and raise offspring for his brother.410 ¶16

Knowing that every offspring would not be his, but his brother’s, Onan spilled his seed so that Tamar would not have a child. Displeasing Jehovah because of this act, Jehovah killed him, for the command was to be fruitful and multiply and increase the world. The third son was not given as he was too young.410 ¶17

Then came the day when Judah went down to observe the shearing of the sheep, as he was rich and had enormous flocks. Tamar, upon hearing of his visit, took off her widow’s clothes and sat in a public place, veiled as a harlot of the temple. When Judah proposed, she asked: “What will you give me?” and he replied: “A kid from my flock.” Asking for a pledge that the kid would be sent, he gave her his ring, his bracelet, and his staff, and knew her intimately.410 ¶18

Three months later it was brought to Judah’s attention that his daughter-in-law, Tamar, was pregnant. When Judah heard the news, he said: “Let the law be fulfilled. She shall be burned to death.” When they came to execute the law she took the ring, the bracelet, and the staff and sent them to Judah with the message: “The man who gave me these is the father of the child.” Upon seeing them, Judah said: “The sin is mine, not hers.”410 ¶19

Now don’t think of Tamar as having union in a physical sense, but union with a state, for every time we enter a state there is union. In my friend’s vision, everyone present was an in-law, telling her that she has entered the mainstream. She has had union with memory, and no power on earth can stop her from bringing scripture to its fulfillment, for her father-in-law is the one spoken of in the 49th chapter of Genesis as “the lion’s whelp, and from his hand the scepter will never pass.” She has entered the state which leads her up to the climax as Jesus Christ, who is God the Father!410 ¶20

The day will come when you will reach the Fatherhood degree and David will stand before you and call you Father. Then you will know a power that is greater than the human mind can fathom. You will know real power. It hasn’t a thing to do with the ability to destroy a nation. Tonight we could release X number of bombs and destroy every city in Russia and they could do the same thing to us – so what? May I tell you: the millions who would die on both sides would not be dead, but still trying to find the Father!410 ¶21

Everyone is really searching for the Father of all life, and that Father is Jesus Christ. Although men have created pictures of him, Jesus is not on the outside. We are told: “It does not yet appear what he shall be, but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” God’s son cannot appear and not be just like the person to whom he appears. You will never see him as someone coming from without, but coming from within you. He will call you father in the Spirit and then you will know who you really are!410 ¶22

In the meanwhile you can exercise your power on this level if you will accept this challenge. Examine yourselves and make sure you are faithful to your imaginal act! Let no one else examine you, but test yourself! Have you completely accepted the fact that Jesus Christ is in you? If you can answer, “not quite” then you have failed the test. If, like one billion Christians, you believe in some other Jesus Christ, you have a false Christ. And you will never find him by going to church or giving to the poor, for he is not on the outside, but in your own wonderful human imagination!410 ¶23

Let no one prophesy for you! The only prophecy you are destined to fulfill is scripture. When someone tries to tell me what some astrologer or medium said I get so annoyed I want to shout: “Have you ever heard me?” Believe in all that nonsense, and you worship false Christs! If you want to be famous in this world of men, use this principle and you will shine for your little moment, but I ask you: are you in the mainstream of fulfilling scripture? Do you really believe in the only Jesus Christ, who is your human imagination? I say: there never was another Christ and there never will be another Christ.410 ¶24

Now, some will say that is blasphemy, just as they did long ago. In the 14th chapter of the Book of Mark, the question is asked: “Are you the Christ?” And Jesus said: “I am; and you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power.” Then the high priest said: “Do we still need witnesses? You have heard his blasphemy.” And in the Book of John, when accused of blasphemy “because you, being man, make yourself God,” Jesus said: “Is it not written in your law, ‘I say, you are gods’? If scripture says you are gods, and scripture cannot be broken, is it blasphemy for me to say I am the Son of God, and the Son and the Father are one?”410 ¶25

If you are creative power, you must be one with the creator, who is a person as you are, as I am. So I say to everyone: accept Christ as your own wonderful human imagination and don’t falter, for scripture must be fulfilled in you. It is not done physically!410 ¶26

I have experienced a physical birth, for I was born in Barbados and just as you, I know the limitations of the flesh. I came into this world with nothing and do not have much today. But because I didn’t have much, I had to stand upon my own two feet and believe in myself. Asking no one to help me and not stealing from another, if I had nothing I went without it. I have seen those who had more than they needed, but I didn’t take it from them, I simply pulled in my belt. I have walked fifty blocks to find a friend who had a dime to buy some soup beans. When he could not be found I would return and perhaps the next day earn a quarter to buy the beans, but it never occurred to me that because others had food and I didn’t that they should give it to me. I was determined to believe in myself and because of that I got into the mainstream of life and scripture began to unfold in me.410 ¶27

No one owes me a living; all I have to do is trust Jesus Christ, trust my human imagination! I have no desire to pile up a lot of money. Why pile up a million shadows? My desire is to tell you who Jesus Christ really is. He is your own wonderful human imagination. There never was another Christ and there never will be another. If you will trust him – and I use “him” advisedly because God’s creative power and God is a person (and you are that person) – you will never fail, for he will never fail you!410 ¶28

Tonight if you know what you want, just believe that you have it. Sleep as though it were true, and because Christ is in everyone, he will use as many as necessary to aid the birth of your assumption.410 ¶29

In the end of the Bible, the 22nd chapter of Revelation, Jesus Christ is speaking, saying: “I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star.” And in the 2nd chapter of the same book it is said: “To he who conquers (who witnesses the truth of scripture) I will give the morning star.” In other words, he gives you himself as God the Father. He is the root of David. The root of a tree is its father. God the Father is the root of David, for David is all Spirit, not a being of flesh and blood. He is the eternal state of the Son, who calls everyone to come to the mainstream and climax as the Father. So the story ends when you have finished the race and kept the faith, for you are given the morning star and know yourself to be the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star!410 ¶30

Tonight test yourself! I will not test you. I am not here to test anyone. I only urge you to examine yourself to see if you are really keeping the faith, or are you going to call a friend and tell him how horrible things are and appeal to him on the outside? I ask you: are you really keeping the faith? Do you always turn to your imagination and, no matter what happens, do you remain faithful to the state imagined? If you do, you have passed the test. But if every little rumour, doubt, or fear can move you around like a pawn on a chessboard, then you are not keeping the faith! It’s entirely up to you. Are you testing yourself or not? Can you say within yourself: “I always turn to my imagination when confronted with a problem and solve it there. Then I remain faithful to that imaginal act.” If you can, you have passed the test. It’s just as simple as that.410 ¶31

May I tell you: we remain in this world of death until we enter the mainstream and come to the climax. You can’t believe how much this world is really a world of death, whose life is in you as your human imagination. Life itself is an activity of imagining where everything is a symbol. Your closest, dearest friend, your wife, your mother, father, brothers and sisters are all symbols, all dead symbols revealing to you who you really are. Now let us go into the silence.410 ¶32

Faith in God

In the 11th chapter of the Book of Hebrews, faith is described as: “The assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” By faith we understand that the world was created by the word of God, so things seen are made out of that which does not appear. In the Hebraic world, the rabbi is the father of his congregation. Paul called his followers his little children, saying: “Although you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. I became your father in Jesus Christ through the gospel. I urge you then to be imitators of me.”408 ¶1

Defining Christ as the power and wisdom of God, Paul tells us we have many guides. In fact, there are as many guides to your success as there are people in the world. Ask someone how to get a job and he will say you must know the right people. Another will tell you that you must have an education, and still another that you must join the right club, or live on the right side of the street. You will be given as many directives towards your objective as there are people you ask.408 ¶2

Although our guides in the operation of this law are countless, as we apply it our creative power will become personalised and take on form, as it did in Paul. And when that happens there is no one to turn to but self. That is why Paul urges everyone to test himself, otherwise he will not realise that Jesus Christ is in him and fail to meet the test. Paul tells us that the world was created by the word of God, and John says Jesus Christ is that word. (). Jesus Christ is he who created the world and all things within it, be they good, bad, or indifferent. And who is He? Your own wonderful Human Imagination! God’s creative power – as pure imagining – works in the depth of your soul, underlying all of your faculties, including perception. He streams into your surface mind least disguised in the form of creative fancy.408 ¶3

This is what I mean when I ask you to test Him. I am not in the habit of wearing a flower in my lapel when standing at the platform, but today I was thinking about asking you to hold a rose in your hand. As I did I held a red rose in my imaginary hand and felt its soft, velvety touch. At that moment I called forth a rose which was not seen with my mortal eye but seen and felt in my Human Imagination. This evening that unseen reality became seen, as a lady came with a red rose and asked if I would wear it.408 ¶4

God is a protean being. It is He who is playing the part of the lady who gave me the rose I imagined. There never was another Jesus Christ and there never will be another! He is the creator of the world and all things in it, even a simple little thing like a rose. When the lady decided to pick some roses from her garden, she had no idea she was executing a simple experiment on my part. This afternoon I held a rose in my hand, thereby calling a thing that was not seen as though it were seen; and tonight the unseen becomes seen. That’s how the world was created by the Word of God, who is the Human Imagination!408 ¶5

Have faith in Jesus Christ, not as some being on the outside, but as your own wonderful Human Imagination. If anyone says: “Look! There is Christ,” or: “Here he is,” don’t believe him; for Jesus Christ is the creative power of the universe and He is in you as your very thought! Although it does not yet appear what we shall be, we know that when He appears we will know him, for “we shall be like him.”408 ¶6

As your father in Christ, through the gospel I teach, I urge you to be imitators of me until Christ is formed in you. Then the true meaning of the fatherhood of God will be revealed, and you will know yourself to be the Father. Everyone and every living thing in the world is a part of being played by the one and only Father, who is God. The whole is contained in the feeling Father, and the world is pushed out from every Father. Omnipresent, God is alive in you now, so I ask you to test Him.408 ¶7

Would you like a better job? Greater income? Greater recognition? What would you do right now if it were true? Now test God by thinking of a friend. Hear him congratulate you on your good fortune. See his face light up with joy and feel his presence. Do that, and you have performed a magical act, for God has acted and all things are possible to God. You do not have to devise the means necessary to make your imaginal act come to pass. He who thought of the friend and saw the whole thing will build a bridge of incident across which you will move to the fulfillment of that which has been done. That is Christ!408 ¶8

Certainly this lady is not in the habit of bringing me flowers and I never wear one on this platform, but I couldn’t help but when I saw all those lovely roses and heard her say: “I cut these from my garden today. Will you please wear one tonight?” Then she picked out a red one. I had painted that picture vividly in my mind’s eye and she played her part perfectly. So I ask you to try using your Imagination in this most simple way.408 ¶9

Now let me share an experience of a daughter and her mother. The daughter wrote, saying: “While in the silence I heard the crying of a child. It was not the cry of a baby, but of the ages. It was a sound I knew would arouse man from his deep sleep and set him free to eternal joy. I have seen and heard many things in heavenly spheres, but nothing compares to the cry of this heavenly child.” Her experience reminds me of Blake’s words when he spoke of the daughters of Beulah, saying: “They heard the voice of the child and began to awake from sleep. All things heard the voice of the child and began to awake to life.”408 ¶10

In the mother’s letter, she said: “In my dream my daughter called to say she was alone and the baby was due. As I entered her apartment I realised it was not my daughter on the bed, but a friend. Then I realised I was holding a newborn child wrapped in a blanket and knew it was mine. The scene changed and I found myself in a hospital. My daughter appeared, saying: ‘I have gotten in touch with my father, Neville. He is coming to see me.’ Then you and I are standing looking at the child, as he smiled, displaying perfectly formed lower teeth. Looking at me you said: ‘Have you forgotten that all the children in my family are born with perfectly formed teeth?’ Then you turned and walked away.”408 ¶11

In the Old Testament, David cried out: “Arise, O Lord, and break the teeth of the wicked.” And in the New Testament, those who refused to accept the doctrine of Christ wept and gnashed their teeth as the door opened and the righteous entered the kingdom of heaven. Loving the glamour, the praise, and honours of men, man pays no attention to the invitation to enter the kingdom by applying this principle. Instead, he follows countless guides in Christ by feeling he must meet the right people and live on the right side of the tracks in order to succeed. So when the moment comes and those who abide by the gospel of Christ enter the kingdom, those who chose the countless guides will show their remorse and anguish by gnashing their teeth.408 ¶12

When Christ is formed in you I will no longer be your father. I have introduced you to Him and fathered you while your faith is child-like, but when Christ is formed in you, you will know yourself to be the Father. In the world you may think yourself wise in the language of God, but if David does not call you Father in the spirit, you do not know what you are talking about! You will never know that your Human Imagination is being formed into the likeness of God the Father until it is revealed in you.408 ¶13

When your Imagination is completely formed, you are born from above to discover the Fatherhood of God. You will see the sacrificial cross that God crucified Himself on split from top to bottom as you ascend into the kingdom of heaven. And the Holy Spirit will descend upon you in bodily form as a dove. On that day God the Father will abide with you and all you will feel is love!408 ¶14

In the meantime, test Jesus Christ, God’s creative power in you as your Human Imagination! Do you want a better job? More money? Whatever you want, claim it just as simply as I did the rose. Put on the feeling of possession and wear it as though it were true right now. If it is a better job you want, where would you sit if you had it? How would your mate see you? Sit behind that special desk and let your wife (or husband) see you there. Live as though it were true and have faith in Jesus Christ, the creative power and wisdom of God.408 ¶15

People have personified this power and hung little icons on the wall. They cross themselves before these little things made by human hands. But God is like pure imagining in us. He works in the very depths of our soul underlying all of our faculties, including perception, and streams into our surface mind least disguised in the form of creative fancy. You can catch God in the act of creating by holding a dozen roses in your arms, smelling them, and feeling their soft, velvety petals. As you fill a lovely crystal vase with water and place the roses in it, observe the stems though the crystal. Look closely and you will even see the water level in the vase. As you do this, God is streaming into your surface mind least disguised in the form of creative fancy.408 ¶16

Imagination is defined as spiritual sensation. Come, let us now sense spiritual things that are not physically present. Right now I want you to feel a tennis ball, then a baseball, a volleyball, and a golf ball. They all feel different, do they not? If you can discriminate between these different balls, are they not real? If you can touch a tennis ball and spiritually distinguish it from a baseball, it must exist, even though it is unseen by mortal eye. So you see: you can behold a thing that is not seen by the mortal eye as though it were, and if you do, your faith in Jesus Christ will cause the unseen to become seen.408 ¶17

Jesus Christ is contemporary, not some being who lived two thousand years ago. God Himself came and comes into human history in the person of Jesus Christ. As your Human Imagination, He is your very being. If all things are made by Him and you can trace the origin of an event to its imaginal act, you have found Him. All things were made by the Human Imagination and without Him was not anything made that was made.408 ¶18

If during the day you imagine unlovely things, they are going to happen! The world believes that Jesus Christ is another, but the great Hebrew confession of faith tells us: “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.” There is only one creator. It is the Human Imagination who kills and makes things alive, wounds and heals. Whether you use or misuse your creative power, the same being will bring it to pass. So if you desire lovely things, you must imagine lovely thoughts. Your friends are your own lack or limitation made visible. Like Job, pray for your friends and your own fears will be lifted.408 ¶19

In Hebrew, the words for faith are “amen” and “emet”. In the 3rd chapter of Revelation, God’s creative power is called “the Amen”: “These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness.” And in the 1st chapter of 2 Corinthians we are told that all the promises of God find their fulfillment in the Amen. “That is why we declare the Amen through him.” The God in you and in me is He who made these promises.408 ¶20

As a physical man called Neville I can do nothing, but I can do anything that I imagine! Imagining a thing and thinking it is done is saying amen in the belief that, because I imagined it, it must come to pass. How it will happen, I do not know. I only know it will, just as the rose appeared this evening.408 ¶21

I ask you to test your creative power every moment of time. Live with absolute faith in Jesus Christ. He is a person because you are a person. As you imagine a state, the creative power of the world will bring it into reality. Claim a glorious future for yourself by making the future the present. Have your friends congratulate you on your good fortune now, and have faith in Jesus Christ, knowing he is your Own Wonderful Human Imagination! Now let us go into the silence.408 ¶22

Probably one of the most misunderstood verses in the Bible is recorded in the 3rd chapter of Genesis, the 16th verse: “The Lord said to the woman, ‘I will greatly multiply your sorrow and in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband and he shall rule over you.’” In this fabulous world of ours, many accept this statement literally and believe that the children spoken of here come from the womb of woman and the male is the husband and ruler; however in the 54th chapter of Isaiah, you are told: “Your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name.” Humanity (male and female) is God’s emanation, yet his wife, ’till the sleep of death is past. Regardless of your sex you are the woman the Lord spoke to in this 3rd chapter of Genesis. Your children are not those brought forth from the womb of woman, but from your imagination! Your husband (the Lord of hosts) will sire every idea you fall in love with, no matter how horrible it may be. And being protean, God has the power to play every part and assume every shape in the world.407 ¶1

Let us take a vivid example. When Hitler and his Third Reich came into power, unnumbered happily married women who loved their husbands and children fell in love with the concept of a superior race – a Germanic race who would enslave humanity. And as the idea caught fire in their minds, these women had an affair with Hitler in their dreams. It was not the person, Hitler, that they had union with, but the state he personified – just as you, if you are completely honest with yourself, have fallen in love with an idea (a state) and met its personification in soft Beulah’s night and had an affair. Then in the morning you have looked at your husband and experienced pain, for not understanding the mystery of Christ, you thought you had an affair with a person. But the man involved could have been playing cards, getting drunk, or sound asleep in his own bed and be completely oblivious to you as a person. He was merely the personification of a state which you accepted and yielded to in soft Beulah’s night, but by that act you multiplied and replenished the earth with the same idea, the same state!407 ¶2

It is impossible to kill an idea, for the moment an idea is accepted, it is conceived and the earth replenished. You cannot kill a state by cutting off the occupant’s head, shooting him, or putting the man in prison. The occupant may depart, but the state remains for anyone to fall in love with. These are false gods, which will multiply your pain and cause you to go through literal hell as you bring forth these ideas as your children.407 ¶3

Look into your own mind, and if you are perfectly honest with yourself you will remember having had union with someone other than your mate in this world, not knowing he (or she) was only a state of consciousness personified. You do not have union with the person, but the state the person represents, for your Maker is your husband who is playing the part of the person.407 ¶4

If this night you really believe what I teach and fall in love with it, you may find yourself in soft Beulah’s night having union with the being who personifies it. You may think it is with the personification called Neville, but it is union with the state. As Neville I may be entertaining someone at my home, enjoying a lovely drink, or reading the Bible as I do all through the day, and be totally oblivious of you and what you are doing. If you really believe what I say, accept it, and live by it, it is quite possible and highly probable that you will have union with this idea. And although he may wear my face, you are having union with God your Father, who is your own wonderful I Amness.407 ¶5

The Bible recognises only one source, only one cause of all things. That one source is God, who – as a protean being – plays all the parts in history. He animates you, as you are his wife. And when you fall in love with something other than the true God and seek false gods, your sorrow is multiplied, and in pain you bring forth your children.407 ¶6

I recall a friend of mine who has now departed this world. Born in Boston to a very poor family, she hungered for the glamour of the theatrical life. Although she danced as one with two left feet, her mother brought her to New York City, where George M. Cohan was casting a show. Hiring a young dancer from Denmark, he was given the right to pick the girls for his chorus. Although this girl could not dance he chose her, and within a year they were married. This marriage produced three beautiful children.407 ¶7

The lovely girl had a desire for glamour, for pomp and circumstance, so during soft Beulah’s night she had affair after affair after affair with everyone from the Pope to the Prince of Wales, thereby perpetuating the belief in pomp and circumstance. Now, don’t blame the Pope, for he didn’t know her – or the Prince of Wales, as they only personified the state she desired to express. She loved seeing the Pope being carried on the back of strong, strapping men, extending his hand to be kissed. Wanting to be part of that world, she was always having union with those who personified it.407 ¶8

Now, if you are Catholic you may be shocked, but don’t think the Pope or the Prince of Wales is exempt from this action, as it is part of the great drama in which we all are cast. She has played her part and spent the last fifteen years of her life as a wino, giving her body to anyone for a bottle of wine. She wedded herself to a false god and greatly multiplied her sorrows. In pain she brought forth the children of her strange gods, yet her desire remained for her husband.407 ¶9

God is your husband – your centre and the very core of your being. No matter what you do, you are still seeking God. So while she was seeking wine for the last fifteen years of her life here, she was still seeking – not her husband, who came from Denmark, but her true husband, her Maker, who is the Lord of Hosts, the Father of the child!407 ¶10

In the 2nd chapter of Paul’s 1st Letter to Timothy, the statement is made: “Woman is saved by the birth of children.” This is false. The footnote in the Revised Standard Version gives you the Greek, and the true translation as: “by the birth of the child.” It’s not by bearing children (all these ideas) that one is saved, but by bearing the child! When you give yourself completely over to the gospel story you are ready, and God will assume the mask of the one who is expressing it at the moment. Then you will have union with that being and bear the child!407 ¶11

So when you have these dreams, don’t feel strange and condemn yourself. Everyone has had similar experiences. If you resist the union in dream it is because the idea represented there is foreign to you; but when your desire is something you really want to make alive and it is expressed – be it good, bad, or indifferent – you will have union with it and feel no shame, in spite of the whole vast world looking on, for this is the world in which we live.407 ¶12

In the 9th chapter of Luke, Jesus asked his disciples: “Who do people say that I am?” And they answered: “John the Baptist, or Elijah, or one of the risen prophets.” Then he turned to them and asked: “But who do you say that I am?” Peter then became the spokesman for the group and said: “You are the Christ of God.” Commanding them to tell no one, he said: “The Son of man must suffer and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes. He must be killed, but on the third day he will rise again.”407 ¶13

Jesus did not deny Peter’s confession, but declined to make it public until he had reinterpreted the popular messianic concept in terms of his own experience. From time to time, one who has experienced the true story of salvation comes into the world and tells it. Then all the elders, scribes, and priests, who carry on the traditions of men, will deny it. This is eternally so; that is why he declined to make it public.407 ¶14

The scribes, teaching the traditions of men, claim Christ is coming from without – but I tell you he comes from within! I tell you that God became your very “self” that you may become God.407 ¶15

Playing all the parts, God lets you go anywhere and meet anyone. And when you fall in love with a state, he will play the part of the state expressed, and in soft Beulah’s night you will have an affair. He will play the part of a Stalin or a Hitler, a Pope or a prince, if you are in love with the state of consciousness. And you will give yourself willingly to him, thereby multiplying and perpetuating that state in the world. In the morning you may be ashamed of your act when you face the one who bears your name (or whose name you now bear), but at the time you had no choice in the matter, for God in you – who is your husband and Maker – played the part.407 ¶16

Being protean, if you meet a dog or cat, see a bird or fish in your dreams, it is because God is playing their parts. No matter what the animal, remember: God is playing its part in order for you to become one, for in the end he will leave all others and cleave to you, his wife, until you become one being, one body, one Spirit, one hope, one God and Father of all.407 ¶17

Now let me share a letter I have been waiting to receive since the 15th of December. This lady’s home is in a small, rustic canyon. One day she spent the afternoon in Los Angeles with a casual acquaintance, and had just returned home, when she heard the phone ringing. She was being called by the casual friend, who appeared to be quite distressed. Inviting the lady to join her for dinner, she returned to Los Angeles, where the lady asked her to spend the night. It seemed strange to her to agree, but after spending several hours reading aloud to the lady, they retired and she fell asleep.407 ¶18

Then she said: “At 3:30 in the morning a peculiar, cold wind caused me to awake. The room contained an eerie light, when out of nowhere my two brothers – whom I haven’t seen in over forty years – appeared, along with my landlord, who is like a brother to me. The three take their positions, two at my feet and one at my head. Picking up an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, my older brother said: “She is too old to have a baby.” Then he placed it in my arms, and as I looked at the child I began to smile. The child then responded and extended its arms toward me, when I awoke on the bed.”407 ¶19

Then she continues: “About five months later, I saw a young boy in his teens coming toward me out of the canyons. He had blond hair and blue eyes, and as I looked at him I knew he was David. Passing me, he headed for the sea, and I watched until he was out of sight. I didn’t have to ask him: ‘Whose son are you?’ because I knew he was mine. Four months later, again at 3:30 in the morning, I was awakened by the sound of an earthquake, followed by a loud bomb. Suddenly my entire being was broken from top to bottom. I felt myself outside of my body, looking at it as though I were another. The left shoulder had fallen a bit and when I returned to the body moments later, I felt pain on the left side. Now I await the fourth vision, which is the descent of the dove.”407 ¶20

I can’t tell you my thrill when I look over this audience and see how many are awakening. In the 9th chapter of Luke, it is said: “Truly, truly I say unto you, there are some here who will not taste of death until they have seen the kingdom of God.” The babe is the key to that kingdom! When Simeon held the child in his arms, he said: “Now Lord let thy servant depart in peace, for my eyes have seen the salvation of Israel.” So to have held the child is to have witnessed the kingdom of God.407 ¶21

This kingdom is a character, an entirely different concept of creative power- not a place in time or space! And you are that character when you are one with your creative power, there to create what you want! The child is a symbol of your entrance, and there are some standing here who will not experience the phenomenon that men call death before experiencing the kingdom of God!407 ¶22

Although this audience can be counted on your fingers, there are so many here who have experienced the truth and so many on the verge of it, that my joy is boundless; for if you owned the entire world and were not awake, what would it matter!407 ¶23

No matter how wealthy you are here, the day will come when you will depart to discover that you have left your billions behind. You will be in a body like this one, only incredibly young, in a terrestrial world just like this to continue to have blind unions with strange gods, not knowing that your Maker is your husband – the Lord of hosts is his name.407 ¶24

The search for your real husband is on! You have gone into strange lands and had union with strange states personified by man. Falling in love with a state, its personification always confronts you in a dream, the mask being worn by your husband, who did it without the person’s consent or knowledge. As an innocent bystander, the person will never know he was used. He was simply the personification of certain beliefs which inflamed your mind, and confronted by your real husband – who is the Lord of hosts – you submitted to them.407 ¶25

All of the characters in scripture are played by God. It is He who plays the part of the angel in the story of Abraham and Sarah. Read it carefully and you will notice that the voice changes from that of an angel to the voice of God. When Abraham is told: “Your wife will have a son,” Sarah laughed because they were both so old and it had long ceased to be with her after the manner of women.407 ¶26

Now, the child promised to the Sarah in everyone is the child of which I speak. You are God’s emanation and he has promised that, in spite of your age, you will have a son. Blake put is so beautifully when he said: “Whom God has afflicted for secret ends, he comforts and heals and calls them friend.”407 ¶27

Although you go astray, following false gods, false beliefs, God will always bring you back; but you will suffer, for you must experience the messianic pains of childbearing. Then one day you will find the one husband and fall in love with his promise. And you will meet someone who personifies salvation’s story and have union with him. But he will be totally unaware of the fact that you so fell in love with the idea that he sponsors, and will never know of your experience unless you tell him.407 ¶28

Having been sent from on high to tell you who “I AM,” you may believe me or resent my message; but I, a person called Neville, am totally unaware, totally innocent of anything that happens to you in your dreams. Leading you now toward what you believe in, your husband will assume my mask and play the role I personify in your dream. Change your beliefs and he will assume another mask and play that part, as you multiply and replenish the earth with ideas of which you are in love!407 ¶29

Don’t think that communism or democracy can be destroyed. If I believe in democracy as a form of government, it is an idea. You can kill me, but you can never kill the ideas I entertain.407 ¶30

This morning’s paper tells of those who have been stealing from the government. Why should we be taken aback when we see dishonesty among officials? From the very beginning they are encouraged by example to make what gain they can from their positions. Seeing what their superiors did and got away with, they have union with the idea and awaken to that state of consciousness. Then they suffer, for this is bearing the children of a false god.407 ¶31

Examine your thoughts. Are they ones you want to bear in this world? Are they calling forth false gods? False ideas? If so, “I will multiply your pain in childbearing, yet your desire shall be for your husband.” The Lord is always ruling, always willing to assume any role and play it for you as he leads you towards himself. And when you meet the true God you will discover that you were the actor all along, for you and He will be One.407 ¶32

Blake said it so beautifully: “Joy and woe have woven fine a garment for my Soul divine.” In Blake’s “Marriage of Heaven and Hell,” he gave us this true revelation: “God only acts and Is in existing Beings or men.”407 ¶33

Let this thought burn itself into your mind. God is a thought in action! Imagine something and God is acting! God only acts and is. Every moment in time, whether in this the waking world or the world of sleep, God is and only God acts! At night in dream, God plays the part of the state you are attached to at the moment or falling in love with. If you like the state, God will assume its personification and you will yield to become one with him. Then in the morning you will awaken with the memory of what happened and multiply your world with the idea. You will give your life, if necessary, to get your idea over to the world, even though it is the most nonsensical thing possible. This you will continue to do until the child is born and your journey is over.407 ¶34

In the 16th chapter of John, we are told: “When a woman is in labor with all the pain that possesses her it is only because the hour has come. But after the child is delivered she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a child has been born into the world.”407 ¶35

Life consists of the children you have borne and are bearing, and life is very painful. You must pay rent or bear the consequences. You must buy food or go hungry. You must buy clothes or be embarrassed. You must pay taxes, drink water, and breathe air. Man has discovered how to tax the water you drink, but as yet has not found a way to tax the air you breathe. Give him time and I’m sure he will! We are already taxed to the bursting point. You go to work, and at the end of the year you pay taxes to someone who doesn’t exist! We call him “Uncle Sam,” but he is invisible! There is no Uncle Sam, yet he puts his hands in our pockets and takes from us what we could spend in a far better way than he does.407 ¶36

So you see: that 3rd chapter, the 16th verse of Genesis is true: “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbearing.” If you entertain the idea of war or famine, fame or fortune, you shall bring forth their children and your pain will be multiplied in childbearing, yet your desire will be for your husband who is the Lord, your Maker.407 ¶37

Even though you are not aware of it now, your husband is suffering with you and will continue to, until you hear the gospel with understanding and believe the incredible story that God actually became you that you could become God the Father. Then to prove that God actually gave himself to you, you will see his only son, David, and – like the lady – you will not have to ask: “Whose son are you?” You will know he is your son, and he will know that regardless of your sex here, you are his Father.407 ¶38

When that experience is yours, you will stop giving yourself to false gods and obey your husband by fulfilling the divine formula of salvation. Now let us go into the silence.407 ¶39

Blake: Four Types of Vision

The four types of vision of which Blake speaks are the very experience of us all. He said, “Now I a fourfold vision see And a fourfold vision is given to me; ’Tis fourfold in my supreme delight And threefold in soft Beulah’s night, And twofold always. May God us keep From single vision and Newton’s sleep!” Fourfold vision is to single vision as ordinary sight is to blindness, that’s the difference. To me, single vision everyone experiences and threefold we all experience. It’s twofold vision and fourfold vision that you and I will have to work on.406 ¶1

Here is single vision. It’s best expressed in the little poem of Wordsworth, his Peter Bell: “A primrose on a river’s brim, A yellow primrose it was to him And it was nothing more.” That’s all that he could see. You and I will pass a lovely flower and all we see is simply the flower. A man is man, a tree is a tree, a dog is a dog. That’s all that it means to the hardheaded, common sense, sensuous, rational being, and all that I’m saying from this platform to him would be sheer nonsense. To tell such a person that imagining creates reality, he wouldn’t listen to you for one moment. He would turn away as though he just heard the voice of someone that is mad. He is the rational being with single vision and he lives in a world where a thing is what it seems to be, and that’s all that it is. So everything can be weighed and measured—a foot, well, twelve inches, a minute, sixty seconds; and you can simply measure everything and weigh everything—that is what he calls Newton’s sleep. “And may God us keep from single vision and Newton’s sleep,” said he.406 ¶2

Now he said, “Double the vision is always with me…twofold always.” Now what is twofold vision? I stand before a fireplace. I have stood before a fireplace unnumbered times, enjoyed it, its warmth, its beauty, but it still is simply wood burning. One day, as I look at it and the flames leap up and suddenly something is happening, it subsides then falls into embers, then into ash, and to all appearances it is gone. I say to myself, “My life is like a fire.” At that moment I achieved a simile. But I’m stirred, I don’t stop there. Then I say, “Life is fire. My life is fire” and here I have achieved now a metaphor. I’m still fired…and I drop the “is” and I say life and fire have now become synonyms. I will never again think or see one and not feel the other, or feel one and not imagine the other. And I have achieved now a symbol, some forever image. So fire forever now is simply an image. Before, it was simply fire, now it’s an image…it reminds me of life. That is twofold vision when everything becomes an image.406 ¶3

As Goethe said, “All things transient are but images.” Well, is there anything in this world that isn’t transient? You name one thing that isn’t transient. A child appears, it waxes, it wanes and then it vanishes…no matter how precious it is when it comes in. Last Saturday I was over at my friend’s in the hills of Hollywood. He just got a few birds. Well, he’s had them now I would say three months, and you should have seen him on Saturday. He found three eggs…these little lovebirds. Why you would have thought someone gave him a million dollars. He has three eggs. It takes fourteen days of waiting for them to hatch out. They will come out, he’ll be ecstatically happy, and then they will wax, they will wane, and they will vanish. All things transient are but symbols, if man now turns the thing into a symbol.406 ¶4

When Blake went to Felpham as the guest of Haley…Haley thought himself a poet. His poetry has not survived, only the few pieces that Blake illustrated…but not because of the poetry but Blake’s illustrations. But he gave Blake a home for him and his wife and his sister, who lived with Blake, a garden, and enough money to buy all the necessities of life, all the food and all the things that were necessary. He tried to make of Blake a hack illustrating his poetry, and saw nothing in Blake’s poetry. Well, one day Blake came home and in his garden was stretched out a drunken soldier, and he ordered him out of his garden. The man wouldn’t go, so Blake took him by the elbows and led him out of the garden and down about fifty yards. The man with another soldier agreed to bring the charge of sedition against Blake. Well, a garden is not something that just happens, it’s a creative plot. Man must be present to call any plot a garden—you take care of it, you plant it, and you take care of it or it will go to seed. So here was Blake’s garden and here is a drunken soldier. A soldier is one of authority. Here he saw in the soldier…of course, he was exonerated through Haley’s efforts, but Haley was his friend physically. He was well fed, he had shelter, but he was his spiritual enemy. And Blake said, “I can tolerate my physical enemy, but not my spiritual enemy,” for here he was destroying his creative power. He didn’t want any part of Blake’s poetry or his artistic work; and after three years of a slumber on the banks of Felpham, said he, he returned to London to face poverty but at least to be creative. So Scofield, the name of the soldier, he used in Jerusalem as a symbol of the one who would be his spiritual enemy, even though a physical friend.406 ¶5

So everything in Blake’s life became a symbol…but everything was a symbol. So he saw [...]. He never saw a tree, he saw something else. Someone said, “When you see the sun, don’t you see some round disc like a guinea?” He said, “No, I see a host of angels singing ‘Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty!’” Another person sees just a round disc and that’s the sun. Not Blake. He saw a tree filled with angels. Everything to him became a symbol and he thought in terms of symbols. That’s double vision.406 ¶6

Now, threefold vision is when these images intertwine, inter-blend, have love affairs, marry, and beget new images. A day dream is threefold vision. A dream of the night is threefold vision, because it’s “soft Beulah’s night.” But you don’t have to wait for night: Your moods are your dreams in daylight. I can capture a mood. If I could sustain a mood, and dream through the day with a mood which would imply the fulfillment of my dream, I am setting something in motion. If I could become now intense from that three-dimensional or threefold thing and dream intensely and enter my dream, that’s fourfold vision…if I could now start with my images and dream so intensely that I step into the dream. But if I don’t, it doesn’t mean it will not work. If I persist in it so that the dream obliterates what was and becomes the reality, that’s fourfold vision.406 ¶7

Now this world is fourfold vision. Man has forgotten when he started this dream and he’s entered his dream. As Thoreau said, “The truest life is to be in a dream awake.” Now we are in a dream awake. And we have forgotten where we laid ourselves down to dream this dream; but it became so intense we awoke in our dream and now we return to single vision for this is taking the place of reality. It was once only a dream and now it’s become the stream of reality. Now man knowing this could start this night with his images and let them inter-play. So let them inter-play that they fall in love…they’re sort of having love affairs…then let them marry and beget a new image, which new image would imply the fulfillment of the dream. So I assemble in my mind’s eye images that if true would imply the fulfillment of my dream. Its potency is in its implication. So they all play together, interweaving, and finally they fall in love, and then comes the fulfillment.406 ¶8

Now let me share with you what was given to me this week. This gentleman writes that “For quite a while now I have had a problem, an objective problem. I did nothing about it imaginatively, although I should have, but I allowed it to drift, and it remained a most frustrating thing in my world. For here it confronted me, a problem. I really should have done something about it long ago, but I did nothing about it. So last Tuesday in my office, I simply constructed a scene which if true would imply that the problem had been solved and my dream, my desire had been fulfilled. I went through the scene several times in my mind’s eye, and then I entered into the scene and played it, rehearsed it a couple of times. At the end of the second rehearsal, the voices and the scenery began to become alive…all things began to become alive.406 ¶9

“I went home and that night as I retired I once more rehearsed the scene, entered into it, it was becoming alive. I fell asleep half way through the rehearsal, and this is what I dreamed. I dreamt that here is a party; that I am a disembodied observer, and here a party is in progress to congratulate a young man. The young man had come into some good fortune, something to him most important, a major thing in his life, but those around him had only just learned about it and so they hastily arranged a party to congratulate him. Here I am observing this party and the young man is the star in the drama. Girls are coming in through all the doors, embracing him, kissing him, hugging him, and it’s a most exciting thing. They’re telling him, ‘How on earth did you ever accomplish that?’ Then in a most embarrassed way he blushed and he hemmed and hawed, and then he said, ‘Well, it was so easy, I simply did what I should have done a long time ago.’406 ¶10

Now he said, “As the man said this, I must have entered into the spirit of that young man because I felt the embarrassment. I felt the feeling that this is unworthy…I’m not really worthy of all this because it was so easy. I only did what I ought to have done a long time ago. So I must have entered at one little moment from the disembodied observer to be the star in the drama. But then, I must have gone back to be to being the observer, because I heard him say it. Yet in it, it was not a vicarious thrill…I was actually experiencing the thrill. I entered into the state. So my rehearsal at night went right into the actual act, only it seemed to be that I am observing someone else.”406 ¶11

Well, let me tell him, there is no one else. Humanity is a single being…in spite of its myriad forms and faces, and there is only in such seeming separation as we find in our own being when we are dramatically sundered in dream. So he was dramatically sundered and then a seeming other is playing the part that he wrote for himself. He played it. I can only tell him now, wait patiently, it’s done! You entered into a fourfold vision. Brought it right in through your own intensity when you spent the day on Tuesday constructing the scene which would imply the fulfillment of your dream, and rehearsed until the voices began to come alive, and the scenery became alive. Then at night you started it all over again and half-way through you fell asleep…as we are here asleep dreaming this. Here, we are sundered too. Every being in my world is myself pushed out, made visible. I haven’t catalogued all the individuals and given to myself the image that it represents.406 ¶12

But as my friend last Friday night, speaking of his mother, and how many years ago he came to the conclusion she was only an image, an image of the material world. Then came this wonderful mystical experience where he finds himself a young man in a suite of rooms looking out over the sea. He sits down and he writes a letter to his mother. He’s just about to go out to post it when a lady enters through the front door, and he turns to her and says, “I’ve just decided to go post a letter to my mother, but I’ve only just remembered that she’s dead, that she died.” So the lady said, “Yes, she died a long, long time ago,” which surprised him because it didn’t seem that she was gone that long. In our measure of time it was only a few months, but she implied it was a long, long time ago. Then he asked a very simple question, “Well, hasn’t my mother been paying for these rooms?” and she replied, “No, the undertaker has been doing it. He felt it better that you should think that she was providing for you until you came to your senses.”406 ¶13

He’s on the verge of completely awakening, because he has already been elected. That short interval between being completely elected and taking office in an entirely different age is just around the corner. I don’t mean to disturb him by saying tonight, tomorrow night, for no one knows the day. He will not go one hour before his time; neither will he delay one hour. As we are told in scripture today with the new translation, “Who by taking thought could add one hour to his span of time?” It used to be said that “…by taking thought could add one cubit to his stature?” That has now been changed from a measurement of space to a measurement of time. “Who by taking thought or by being anxious could add one hour to his span of life?” You can’t do it, so you need not be anxious because you aren’t going to postpone it. You aren’t in any way going to hasten it, in spite of what all our wise men tell us about transplants and doing this and extending life today, because we know more about the human body and more about diets. You read the obituary columns in the morning and all the dieticians die just as the others, and all the doctors go the same way, and they don’t live one hour more than those they’re treating. And those that they say will live just about another day if they continue this way…406 ¶14

I think of a friend of mine in Barbados. I poured him on the boat during Prohibition, but I mean poured him on. He would drink anything that was alcohol, but anything. Why he didn’t die! Well, here is a man, he is now in his eighties, and they said he will die. I took him aboard that boat….I stopped at every speakeasy from Coney Island to the boat. Got him into a taxi and he knew every speakeasy, “Stop here, Nev, stop here.” Go in, get himself a straight pint in his pocket and there he was in the cab drinking it like water. Another one, another one, and I actually took that man and poured him on the boat. My father promised his father he’d bring him back. So we found him in the gutter and that man is alive today. He’s eighty-odd, and all the doctors who warned him, they’re all dead, all dead. Of course, he only vegetates today because he’s gone blind. He has all the money it takes…his father left him a considerable sum of money, so he has three servants and he’s blind. But there he is vegetating. [...] enormous today…all that money can buy he has it, so he only vegetates. So he has to learn his lesson this way.406 ¶15

The Father in him is dreaming this dream. One day he will come to his senses, and when he comes to his senses, the whole vast world is himself pushed out. But in each the Father awakes—the Father’s only one, not two. So the Father in man is dreaming. He wakes in this gentleman, he wakes in this lady, he wakes in that lady, and he wakes…the same Father who still remains dreaming in all in whom as yet he has not awakened. When he awakes, there is only one being who began the dream and in the end only one who awoke; therefore, “Only one body, one Spirit, one Lord and one God and Father of all” and you are he.406 ¶16

So this fourfold vision is within the experience of us all. Everyone has experienced single vision, where a stone is a stone…all that it is. Everything in this world was once only a dream, everything in the world. This room here was once only imagined, and now to us it has become what we call the fact. It has entered that stream of reality and we see it as real; but it began as a dream in the mind of someone, executed by some architect, and then workers worked. But here it is still a dream. For its origin was a dream, well then, the end is a dream. All things bring forth after their kind. Well, if what I am now bringing forth into this world is going to supplant this and take its place, but it started as a dream, though it supplants it, obliterates it and takes its place, it comes into the stream of reality, it’s still a dream. So Imagination is that power that not only has that creative power to cause that which was not to be, it also can cause that which is, not to be. They can take a thing that is and cause it not to be, and they can take that which the world will say is not and cause it to be. Therefore, it not only creates, it un-creates. This is the power that is God and that power is your own wonderful human Imagination.406 ¶17

If you are going to do it, as my friend did it, with that same intensity, then you will not postpone it. Now he knows this law, because he’s applied it so beautifully time and time and time again. Yet we’re all careless when it comes to a problem. Here’s a problem…you could do it imaginatively, oh well, it will take care of itself. It will not take care of itself because we are the operant power, it doesn’t operate itself. I either operate it or it remains dormant. And if I don’t practice every day…if I were a great concert pianist and I didn’t practice every day and then suddenly I’m called upon to give a concert, I am not ready. If I expose my playing before those who look forward to something great, I’m going to ruin my career. I must keep it day after day and practice. So when I am faced with a problem, I can’t put it aside and say, oh well, I’ll take care of that in time if it’s a problem. So having postponed it for months, he suddenly decided to do something about it, and he did, and moved from “soft Beulah’s night” into fourfold vision.406 ¶18

So when he said, “And now a fourfold vision is with me…and a fourfold vision is given to me” then he confesses that his greatest ecstasy is always in fourfold vision. So that’s fulfillment in scripture. Blake was a tremendous student of scripture. As you read in the 13th chapter of the Book of Proverbs, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life” . And so if I really want something, well now, don’t just say, well, it will come. It’s not going to come! That’s simply hope deferred and it makes the heart sick. But if I know that imagining does create reality, I’ll do something about it. I will take these lovely images and let them interweave, and so construct them that when I bring that scenery into my mind’s eye it is implying something. Its implication is its power. What does it imply? Well, here in this case the young man is being congratulated because something of a major, of a most important thing has happened in his life. They only just heard about it and they came to congratulate him, and he thought it was so easy to do it that really this is not right. “You’re congratulating me for something that was so easy, so simple and really I only did what I ought to have done a long time ago”…the very thing that he constructed. Because in his letter to me, he said, “I knew it was a frustrating problem, yet I did nothing about it imaginally hoping that it would just go away or solve itself.” Well, it doesn’t.406 ¶19

Like here tonight as I look out, a friend of mine who had a few little skin cancers on his face, and his doctors could give him no more radiation and told him so, “You can do no more about it.” And every day you are confronted with your image as you shave. So he looked into the glass and here is his face staring at him with these skin cancers, and yet as he is looking at it, he has to imagine that they are not there. When they actually disappeared, he doesn’t even know, but they left no trace of ever having been present. Well, I have looked at his face as closely as my eye will allow and there isn’t the slightest sign they were ever on his face. Here he has been given all the radiation that the skin could take, and his doctors said we can give you no more, sorry, and the only thing that I really could suggest would be an operation…just to have this thing removed by surgery. Well, he said, “I couldn’t go through it. So every day as I shave I am faced with the actual fact…but it isn’t, just isn’t there.”406 ¶20

So, Imagination cannot only bring things into being, they take things away. It can uncreate whatever it created. So this vast wonderful world of ours that we are creating, so much of it is a nightmare. It can’t endure it forever…it has to be uncreated. That’s why I stress time and again, live nobly that you can simply store your mind with dreams, with ideals worthy of recall, because the day’s going to come you will survive. As told in scripture, if you build on any other foundation than that one foundation, which is Christ, well then, if it doesn’t survive the test, you will suffer loss because it has to be consumed or uncreated, but you will not…but only through fire” . And so we bring these things into this world and we have to live with them until one day we discover we don’t have to; we can uncreate them.406 ¶21

So looking into the mirror he uncreated it, it just wasn’t there. While he was shaving over these things it just wasn’t, and he cannot tell you when it actually disappeared. One day it wasn’t there. When I looked into his face and looked for the spots supposedly where they were, there isn’t the slightest trace that they were ever present on his face. He’s here tonight. That story was told me years ago when I was at the Ebell.406 ¶22

So I tell you, you have the power to create and the power to uncreate. So you won’t have to live with an unlovely thing that you’ve brought into the world if you are willing to persist in your dream. One day the dream will become four-dimensional…not four-dimensional, I mean fourfold. Because this world is three-dimensional and this is simply a fourfold vision where what was only a dream has now become the stream of reality. So here in this world of ours now I am looking at you [...] and therefore in a fourfold manner. But if I can see you as images in my world so that when I meet you in Beulah’s night you represent to me not just simply Jan and Bill and so and so, but you represent something else…you are images. For all things transient are but images. And so what when I meet you at night what are you in my dream? What are you trying to tell me?406 ¶23

A friend of mine told me at home just about a month ago. He was home this evening, and he said, “Well, as far as you are concerned in my world if I meet you in dream you represent to me power and wisdom”…because he likes what I’m talking about, he accepts it, he has applied it, and it has proved itself in the testing. And so when I appear in his dream, because he conjures me, I don’t come looking, he conjures me because I am in every being. So he conjures me and whenever I appear in his dream then to him here comes the symbol of power, the symbol of wisdom; but “it is speaking through a friend’s voice that I know and like very much, and his name is Neville.” But Neville is only a symbol in his world, as it should be. I am a symbol in your world. So if I appear tonight, don’t think I came rushing in to do this, that and the other. I am in every being, and so everyone could dream of me tonight and see me differently because I am in every being as you are in every being, for God is one. God is fragmented in this world; the whole vast world is God made visible and you are he. His name is I AM, that’s the name of God forever and forever and forever.406 ¶24

So tonight, when you see the fireplace burning…as this friend wrote last week when he went home to listen to my tape…there was the burning of the wood, it was warm. He stretched out on the floor, turned on the tape, and because of the lateness of the hour, and the warmth of the room and having just dined he fell sound asleep and didn’t hear the tape. That’s alright. But here was the fireplace. One day, if he hasn’t already done it, he will liken himself, his life, to fire. He will see it actually blaze up hotly. Everyone at some time must have observed it. What man in the world…in the tropics when it is a hundred-odd you still light a fire to boil water. So everyone is familiar with fire in this world. No matter where you are in the world, fire is known to all people, and you use it to boil water to cook something. And to most of the people in the world it simply is only a means to their end; it doesn’t have a symbol as yet. The day will come, it will be a symbol, a symbol of life, and you will not see either one, either fire or life and not think of the other. You will not feel one and not imagine the other, either one. When you do that, suddenly you’ve achieved a poetic image, a symbol. From then on that’s all that it is in your world. Go in and turn on the gas, use it, you will still not just see gas. The minute you see fire you feel life, and that warmth within you will always be related; they become synonyms from then on. And everything in your world will turn itself into an image. That’s what Blake meant by a twofold vision.406 ¶25

He said, “A twofold vision always” —never was he without the twofold vision. So here, to everyone, start with one and it will become two, then four, then eight, sixteen and so on. Then all the images will form these poetic images in your mind. Then when you read Blake you’ll understand him. They are all images; these are not people. Skofield is simply the one who is his spiritual enemy. In the world, he was only a drunken soldier asleep in his lovely garden. And knowing Blake by his works and his tenderness for everything, he must have had a lovely garden. Didn’t have to be a big one, but how he must have loved that garden and taken care of it. Just a garden…it’s a creative spot. The man was all creation. And a sleeping, drunken soldier in his garden… it’s like coming home and finding him in your wife’s bed. That’s a creative spot too. And so out he took him. Blake was a very small man, but he had the courage of a giant. I do not know how tall he was…I read somewhere that he was about 5’6” or 5’5”, a small man, well built. But he took that drunken soldier by his elbows down the street fifty yards…and then came this false charge of sedition. Blake, with Haley’s help, because he was a man of means, and important person in the neighborhood, and Haley treated Blake’s [...].406 ¶26

Tonight, you take these four types of being and start on this premise: It is within your experience if you want to experience them. You have experienced two, everyone has. Unless you’re blind you can see, well, that’s single vision. If what you see has another meaning than the one it appears to be, you’re beginning to have twofold vision. If you ever had a dream, you’ve had threefold vision. Now take your images…and one day it’s going to happen.406 ¶27

May I tell you, it’s the thrill of thrills to sit down and conceive a thing, and as he said, “The words, the voices, and the scenery began to become alive”…began to become alive. At that he fell asleep, and then the whole thing began to project itself and he became fragmented: All the characters, all the girls came to congratulate him, himself now made visible as a youth, for he is young anyway. All things being relative in this world, he’s younger than my son. I call that young. So here, he’s having…it’s just himself.406 ¶28

Now persist in it. Don’t think for one moment it was another. Your desire has been fulfilled, but all things have an interval of time between that and their coming through into the stream of life that we call reality. And it’s breaking upon you suddenly…and then you too will be congratulated on this major to you important thing that has happened in your life. It will happen that way.406 ¶29

But practice, practice and still more practice! For you’re moving into a world eventually where all is Imagination, you will create at will…a garden if you love gardens. Yes, you’ll have all the gardens in the world if you love gardens. You don’t have to travel by any means in this world. But if you want to travel…you only now read of the galleons of the past, you want to have the experience of that? You can conjure one and travel in that manner. You want to know what it is to travel in some other manner? You can conjure it, because it’s all within your capacity to do it. That’s where you’re going, into a world of creation, that’s the new age. And so, you’ll create your world just as you want to.406 ¶30

That is the joy that is in store for us having come down in dream to this world; for we really haven’t come down, we are now dreaming in our eternal state and we never left it. We never left our eternal home, but we are dreaming and we descend in our dream. We fell seemingly as one man, and so, “I say ye are gods, all of you, sons of the Most High; nevertheless, you will die like men and fall as one man, O princes” . That’s the best translation of the Hebrew in the 82nd Psalm, and you’ll find, if you have the Revised Standard Version, a footnote giving such a translation, rather than the one that is acceptable in the King James Version. So, I say ye are gods, all of you—not just a few—all sons of the Most High; nevertheless, this is going to be your experience, you are going to die like men and fall as one man, O princes. Well, if you are princes then your Father is a king—the King of Kings, Lord of Lords—and together you form him; you form one, for God is one.406 ¶31

And so, in our dream we dream this. We descend only in dream and in our dreams we made it so real that we entered into the dream and the dream became the reality. Then our eye opened upon it and we had single vision and became locked in the prison of our senses or reason or both, and became a practical, down-to-earth, hard-headed man, who knows that life is a battle and he’s going to take advantage of everyone because he’s going to get his. He piles up his millions, then the Father says, “It’s time enough to return now.” So he slips off the little garment here where he left the millions to find himself restored to life in a garment same as before—only young, nothing missing, all restored, a healthy wonderful being—to go about his single vision again until he comes to his senses. He will think the world is supporting him, that the earth, the great mother is paying the rent and that the great mother is providing for him. And the undertaker will allow him to think so until he awakes when he comes to his senses.406 ¶32

So tonight, do not postpone your dream. But do you think because you’ve heard what you heard tonight that it will on the hearing come to pass. You’re told in the Book of James, “Do not be a hearer only, but be a doer of the word” . Not just hearing the word, for we hear it and then postpone the doing. So when he stopped postponing the doing and he did what he ought to have done a long time ago then it came to pass. Now let us go into the Silence.406 ¶33

If there aren’t any other questions…good night. Thank you.406 ¶36

In Paul’s letter you ought to take it on several different levels. You could take it that he is applying the law. You could take it that he is addressing what is called “the Jew” who believes in the physical act. He’s telling you whether you are or are not, it means nothing. That these mean nothing, for in the end, salvation is not by merit, it is by grace…grace, grace, grace. So whether you abide by these outward beliefs, the traditions of the fathers concerning diets, concerning circumcision…but Paul always speaks of the circumcision of the heart, that the heart which is the mind, well, the mind and the heart are the same in Hebrew and in Greek. So you unveil or uncover the creative head which is God. The creative power of man is his Imagination that has been veiled and has to be circumcised and so he calls it the circumcision of the heart. Man speaks of my Imagination as something that isn’t real—“just your imagination; it’s all in your imagination”—well, that is a completely uncircumcised mind. When I speak now of Imagination, I instantly cannot use the word without feeling God, so to me God and Imagination are synonymous. These are synonyms in my language. When I speak to your Imagination, I’m speaking to God. I can’t conceive of another God. And so, the mind becomes covered.406 ¶35
