The Forming of Christ in You

That which is profoundly spiritual is in reality most directly practical. Tonight I will tell you a story from scripture which is profoundly spiritual. It is misunderstood in the world, but I know its inner meaning and will show you how altogether practical it is. In all the revelations which await you, there is none so fundamental as the forming of Christ in you. How is it formed? By whom and where is the sphere of the forming? In order to answer these questions we will turn to scripture.572 ¶1

In the 9th chapter of Romans, Paul takes an old story whose chronological time is placed at 1856 BC. He ties it in with another story, which time has placed at 400 BC, then gives his interpretation of what took place in the first century AD. Here we find a stretch of 2000 years. Paul tells the story of the twins in the womb of Rebecca. Having prayed for a child, the Lord heard Rebecca’s prayers and answered them. Then there was a conflict within her, and as the two began to form there was a struggle and she asked the Lord why she should live; and the Lord replied: “Two nations are in your womb and two peoples born of you shall be divided. One shall be stronger than the other; and the elder shall serve the younger.” And when the twins were born, the first one was covered with hair and named Esau. The second, smooth-skinned lad was called Jacob, and later renamed Israel by the Lord.572 ¶2

In telling the story, Paul speaks of predestination . . not of the outer man, but of the inner man. Listen to his words carefully: “Though they were not yet born and had done nothing either bad or good, in order that God’s election should continue, not because of works but because of his calling, he made one he loved and one he hated, saying, ‘Jacob I love, and Esau I hate.’” They had not yet been born and had done nothing that was either good or bad, but in order for God’s election to continue he loves the one he calls and hates the other.572 ¶3

Now Jacob, he who is called and loved by God, becomes Israel; so you see, Israel cannot be those who are descended from Abraham in a physical state. Israel is the inner man, the feminine part of your nature. I have seen that inner man and know he is my own wonderful human imagination. That inner man is he who is loved by and wedded to God.572 ¶4

“Your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name. The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer. The God of the whole earth he is called.” Your human imagination is the Israel of scripture. That’s your inner man, the feminine part of your nature, to whom God is wed. It is to your imagination that God cleaves, and leaves all until the two of you become one. It is in this sphere that Christ is formed. He is the son, bearing witness to the union of your human imagination and the creator of the universe. Your imagination is God’s emanation, yet his wife, till the sleep of death is past. But how will he know that this union is productive? By the forming of Christ in you, for your son is your hope of glory!572 ¶5

Paul tied the 25th chapter of Genesis with the 1st chapter of Malachi (a separation of over fourteen centuries). Then he began to show the predestined you, not the outer you . . for it is not loved by your Father, but the inner you . . who is your human imagination. God hates Esau . . the outer man whose senses anchor him to his financial, social, and educational world; but he loves the one within . . who can, in the midst of hell, visualize harmony, health, and success. The Lord of the whole earth is omnificent, with unlimited sperm. He so loves you . . his wife, that if you dare to assume anything that Esau . . the outer you . . denies, he will accept your vision and give it to you; for “Your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name. The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called.”572 ¶6

Your human imagination is God’s emanation, his wife that he cleaves to until you become one reality. Desiring your union to be productive, the Lord asks you this question: “If a son honors his father and I am a father, where is my honor?”572 ¶7

When that son is completely formed there will be an explosion and he will come out. But by then he is not the son of a little bride and the fabulous Lord of Lords. No. Your son appears, to show you that you are now the one being that man worships as the Lord.572 ¶8

Now the Risen Lord, I appear to individuals according to their sensitivity and needs. I may appear as the spirit of holiness, the spirit of truth, the spirit of power, or the servant of the Lord. You may not believe my words on this level because you see the weaknesses and limitations of the outward man the Lord hates, for you cannot see the inner man that is now one with the body of the Risen Lord. But you will meet me in spirit according to your needs, because I have been sent to help the universe and I am a protean being. Whether I am proclaiming the word of God or implanting the seed of God, I appear as power most of the time, but I am not confined to that appearance.572 ¶9

One lady here tonight still thinks of an historical Christ, and . . because of her need to believe that I am telling the truth, she saw me crucified on a cross. She saw me in that position to encourage her to believe me, even though she cannot understand my words. Being protean in that dimension of myself, I can appear to fill a need; but after fusing with love I was sent back into the world by power. Whether I am speaking the word of God in this other dimension of my being, or implanting the word through union, most of the time I am seen clothed in power.572 ¶10

So, in this world that profound story of the twins is not understood because it does not make sense, but it is so very practical. The outer world may tell you that you can’t have what you want, that you do not have the necessary education, experience, or means to achieve your goal. But your husband hates that outer you, and loving his bride (your human imagination), he gives you whatever you want. He will give you a home if that is your desire.572 ¶11

Today I don’t want the responsibility of owning a home. I like living as we do in an apartment owned and cared for by someone else, and my wife agrees. She has no feeling that a home will give her security. She knows that she either finds security in what I am talking about or she will not have it. I could give her monetary security, but a revolution in our little island could wipe out the family fortune . . so where is the security?572 ¶12

You may think you are secure because you own property or have money in the bank; but your only security is in your Maker, who is your husband. He is the Lord of the universe and loves his emanation, your human imagination (who is clothed in outer flesh) called Esau. He hates Esau and loves his Jacob, his Israel, who will one day rule as God. So carefully define what you want, then trust your lover . . who is the Lord of the universe . . by accepting his gift of it as a completed fact. Walk in the assumption you have what you want, and let your husband give it to you.572 ¶13

Now, you will discover that Christ is not only formed in you, but by you, for . . being united with the Lord . . you are one with him. If the Lord forms his son in his bride by cleaving to you until you become one being, and he is forming Christ, are you not forming Christ, too? He is formed in you and by you in that one body, the human imagination. In all the revelations that await you, none is so fundamental as the revelation of Christ in you. His beauty is indescribable, and you will know that he is your eternal son who now honors his Father.572 ¶14

If you are a man, don’t be ashamed of speaking of this being in you as feminine, for it is more you than what you see reflected in the mirror. Your awareness is the bride of the Lord. She can’t conceive without the embrace and seed of her husband. So Israel owes his uniqueness to his covenant marriage. Christ is formed from that union and a new state is born.572 ¶15

Jacob (desire) becomes Israel (fulfillment) when David reveals himself as your son. The story told in the 25th chapter of Genesis . . which doesn’t make sense to the outer, reasonable you . . is understood perfectly by your inner, powerful imagination. Rebecca struggled within herself, just as you do and I do; and she was told of the conflict between the outer reasonable mind (called the elder) and the human imagination (called the younger).572 ¶16

Now, make the elder serve the younger. Your elder, reasonable power will say it can’t be done, it’s impossible; but when it is done he adjusts to it. Esau will tell you that you cannot own a certain home because it is beyond your means. But your imaginal power moves in and so occupies the home, the outer one sleeps in it and adjusts very nicely to the change. Esau will resist everything Jacob desires because he can’t believe it is possible. He does not know that Jacob . . the feminine part of your nature . . is wedded to the Lord, and the Lord so loves his wife that he has left all thoughts of another and is making the two of them one.572 ¶17

This is the most practical thing you would ever hear. Test your Self, he who is forming Christ in you, by conceiving a scene which would imply the fulfillment of your dream. What would you see if it were true? What would you hear? What would you do? Now, begin to look, hear, and do it all in your imagination; and when you go to bed tonight, sleep as though it had already come to pass.572 ¶18

Always bear in mind that God is a protean being. He can appear in many forms. A friend and father of five children came to see me the other day. One of his little girls has a pet rabbit, a doe, who was sick. She asked her father to ask me to pray for it. This I did. The following week the vet treated the rabbit and it is now home and well. The following morning, the father saw a tall man standing at the foot of his bed, whose head was that of a rabbit. Then he spoke saying: “Thank you for helping my people.” The vision was so real the father said to himself: “This must be ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’, but I am seeing a rabbit instead of a donkey.”572 ¶19

Now, who do you think wore the form? God. He sends himself in everyone that he sends, and the one sent is one with the sender. He too then is protean, and can assume any shape or form. My friend asked for help and received it, and is now encouraged to believe all the more. Like all fathers he could use more money to buy clothes, food, and pay for an education for his children. Now he knows what happened and will not forget it. He saw the one sent, clothed as a rabbit, but it was in the form of Man, for God is Man and he was thanked for helping his people.572 ¶20

This is how God speaks to all to encourage faith, for by faith all things are made and faith is simply loyalty to unseen reality. If you imagine a state, it is unseen by others, but if you assume it is true, your husband . . who is a god of truth . . will give it to you. He so loved you he became you, and when you imagine, he imagines. Then one day the fusion will be complete and then there will no longer be you and God: you will know yourself to be God, who actually became you that you might become God. This is the story of scripture.572 ¶21

Now, God does not become this body of flesh. It is Esau . . the hairy outer form . . he hates. He is in love with Jacob . . the human imagination . . who is the subjective, feminine part of your nature. So don’t be ashamed to admit there is in you that which is feminine and loved by God, for only by fusion with this feminine part of your nature can Christ be formed.572 ¶22

Start now to use your talent, which is your imagination. Use it consciously every day, for any time you use your imagination you are pleasing God; and when you do not use it God is displeased. You don’t have to sit down and burst a blood vessel pounding out the details of your desire. You can imagine as you walk down the street. A simple assumption is easy and can be lots of fun.572 ¶23

A friend called today to thank me for aiding her in the selling of her home. It was an enormous house in Highland Park, which had been empty for some time. She had hired a lady to go to the house and do some cleaning there, when a man came to the door and asked to buy it. Two weeks later the house was sold. What did I do? I imagined hearing her tell me the house was sold. That’s all I did. There was nothing else I needed to do; for all things are possible to God, and he so loves me he abides by any request I make of him.572 ¶24

Try it. You will never disprove God’s law; and the more you consciously use your imagination, the more you please your husband, for you are wedded to the God of the universe . . He who is omnificent to achieve any purpose, be it the sale of a house or the health of a rabbit. Certainly it matters little to me if the rabbit lived or died, but the child wanted me to pray for it. I know there are many rabbits and she could have had another had this one died; but she wanted this one, so I didn’t modify her request. Do not modify the request of another if it is within your ethical code, and certainly her request came within my ethical code.572 ¶25

So, the Risen Lord can appear as the Spirit of Holiness or the Spirit of Love. When my Father fused himself with me he appeared as the Spirit of Love, but he sent me wearing the form of power. That is the part I have played most of the time. Martha, who has now gone from this sphere, saw me as power. That, too, was done for a purpose, so that Martha would know the power of truth. But on this level of my being I am just a normal man with the human weaknesses of any outer man. Money doesn’t give you power. They just buried a man who possessed millions. He left behind $500 million, and could not take one million of it with him. He is now probably the richest spirit in the graveyard.572 ¶26

Now, the story of Paul begins in the 8th chapter of the Book of Acts, but his name does not appear until the beginning of the 9th. In the 8th, a eunuch is reading the 53rd chapter of the Book of Isaiah, when Philip approached him, and said: “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he answered: “How can I without a guide?” Then Philip interpreted the chapter on the suffering servant, and the eunuch . . not understanding . . asked: “Is the prophet writing about himself or another?” Isaiah was not writing about a man of flesh, but was telling an eternal, immortal story.572 ¶27

God himself is the suffering servant. He so loves you, he will not alter your imagination. If you imagine some horrible thing, he will fulfill it, and because you have to experience all that you imagine he will suffer with you. Always allowing you to imagine, be it wisely or unwisely, he fulfills it with you. That is your suffering servant. But in the end, having gone through hell with you . . the one he loves most . . he rejoices, for when he comes out he and his emanation are one. This story makes no sense if seen only on the page of a book. It must be experienced to be understood.572 ¶28

Let me put this in a simple way: Tonight, when you look in the mirror, you will see Esau. The one who is looking in the mirror is Jacob. The word “Jacob” means “to supplant.” Jacob can supplant his physical reflection by replacing the one there with one he desires to experience. Loving Jacob, the Lord will mold Jacob into the likeness of what he is seeing, and you will become what you have been beholding.572 ¶29

Now, I have told you that when a man dies he finds himself in a terrestrial, solid, and real world like this one. The lady who saw me in the crucified form told me of seeing her mother (who has been gone from this world many years) as a young girl. Her mother spoke and introduced her to her present husband. Now this lady knows from experience that there is no death, but worlds within worlds, where people marry, grow old, and are just as afraid to die there as they are here, until the union is complete. Then there is no need for any marriage, for they are married to the Lord and are one with God. When the two become one flesh, there is no need for any marriages. But until the son of God bears witness to this union, man leaves this world to enter another, to marry and continue the struggle, just as it is done here.572 ¶30

I am telling you the truth. I take the Bible and let my intuition play upon it, then the meaning comes to the surface. Scripture will last forever in the form in which it is written because of its simplicity. But its revelations will not come unless you dig for the words’ deeper meaning.572 ¶31

One day you will know why I am telling you about the forming of Christ in you, for of all the revelations this is the most fundamental. There is no other way for you to know that you are God. You can be split in two from top to bottom, come out of the grave of your skull, and find the little child who symbolizes your birth from above . . but you will still not know you are God the Father. Only when you find the Christ which was formed in you will you know who you really are. Then you too will decree to David: “Thou art my son. Today I have begotten thee.”572 ¶32

“No one has ever seen God, but the son who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.” When Christ appears it is because he has been formed in you, by you, because by then you have been born . . not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man . . but of God. You will know you are Spirit and your son is Spirit, and together you form the Lord Jesus Christ.572 ¶33

There isn’t one nth part of one per cent who will accept this, but I will not change it one iota because I know the day will come when everyone will experience it. Then their married state will be over. They will know they have only one husband, who is their very self. This coming of marriage is your redeeming power, for your husband . . the God of the whole earth . . is your redeemer. He has been so long with you, yet you have not seen him; but I tell you, when you see me you have seen the Father. God the Father is Spirit, Imagination . . which can take on any form. You meet him, and his outer form is a faint resemblance; but he is the inner one and perfect . . while the outer man is only a faint shadow that can never reach perfection.572 ¶34

Bear in mind the sphere in which Christ is formed. It is the inward man . . the feminine part of your nature, for it takes woman to conceive. Imagination is the great power and that is the bride of the Lord. So let everyone be bold enough to claim that within him is an eternal woman, who is his bride. He left everything for her, and brought her into himself to make the two one flesh. And to prove that they are mated and one in love, their son appears, bearing witness to that union. Christ is being formed in you, by you; and when your journey is over you will take off your garment of flesh for the last time and return to the heavenly sphere as God the Father. Now let us go into the Silence.572 ¶35

Test Yourselves

You’ll find this a very practical night, something that you can prove in the immediate present. We are told in scripture to examine ourselves—this is the 13th chapter of 2nd Corinthians, “Examine yourselves, to see whether you are holding to your faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!”571 ¶1

Now, what is the test, for I’m supposed to examine myself. So here is a story, a true story. This nurse and her little charge, eight years old, and they are on a beach, and she said to the little boy, having watched the waves and all the things, she said, “Come now, it is time to go…you’ve been looking long enough at the waves, and everyone’s going home.” He said to her, “You see what I see, but you do not see what I see. Oh yes, together we both see the waves, but you do not see what I see.”571 ¶2

Many years ago, my wife had this vision. She found herself in a grove of trees with a wonderful clearing. At the end was this man and on the sides were people. One person entered and this was a woman bearing a book, and the title of the book was The Credence of Faith and the Forgiveness of Sin According to Judaism. Then came another woman bearing a book with a similar title, the same title, and she went toward the same man, and she read from the same book only it was According to Christianity. My wife said, “As I heard it, I always thought it was so much more difficult to be a Jew than to be a Christian; but when I heard what this woman read, I realized it was infinitely more difficult to be a Christian than to the a Jew.”571 ¶3

Now, let me show you the difference. One of our truly great men in the world of Caesar, Disraeli, Benjamin Disraeli, said, “Christianity is the fulfillment of Judaism.” These are the words of this prominent, prominent Jew.571 ¶4

Now let me show you the difference. Christianity as practiced today is Judaism. I don’t care what you call it…you go to the Catholic church, the Protestant church, or any other church, it’s all Judaism as practiced today because it’s all external worship. I keep certain days of the year…as Paul said, “I notice that you observe days, months, weeks and years! I am afraid I have labored over you in vain.” So they both keep days called holy days. They observe certain functions, certain dietary rules. Recently the Catholics have begun to relax fish on Friday and other little nonsense’s in the world. But all of this is external worship. Now here is the difference between Judaism and Christianity. Judaism practiced by the Jew, the Mohammedan, the Christian, is an external observation. That is Judaism, and all the Christians practice it. I go and I take a little wafer and I ate the body of Christ. I drink it down with a little wine and I drank his blood. Now I’m all good for the day. Regardless of what I do today or what I think today, I am just completely perfect now…I took it this morning…just perfect. So all those who practice this nonsense, they are part of that faith called by any name. If the Mohammedan turns towards Mecca in the course of a day and bends and prostrates himself a half dozen times, he has fulfilled the law. In the interval he can do anything he wants and think what he wants.571 ¶5

Now here is the difference between the two, as told us in the Sermon on the Mount: “You have heard it said of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that any man who looks lustfully upon a woman has already committed the act in his heart.” So the entire thing moves from an external observation of things to a psychological state. He has to live psychologically. That’s the difference. So she said to herself, I didn’t realize how difficult it was to be a Christian. As Browning said in his Easter Day as he begins his poem, “How very hard it is to be a Christian.” Undoubtedly Browning had the vision that one has to live mentally, that you can’t just live physically. I can’t imagine what I want regardless and then go to Mass tomorrow morning and eat a little piece of bread and think I ate his body and drink a little wine and think now I washed it down, that was his blood, and then go through thinking anything. Oh no, I must mentally live this life and that is being a Christian.571 ¶6

So Disraeli was right, Christianity is the fulfillment of Judaism.571 ¶7

Now here, as we are told in scripture the very first act in scripture is “And the Spirit of God moved…and behold all things began.” Now I’m going to share with you this night what it means by the Spirit of God moving. Well, God and his name are one, and his name forever and forever is I AM. Can you say “I am”? All right, that’s God, God buried in you, that’s God.571 ¶8

Now, this has to move to produce any change in your world. If in the course of a day I remain seeing what I saw yesterday, I cannot change. I haven’t changed. If in the course of a day in spite of the things of life I move psychologically…like the little boy on the beach “You see what I see, but you do not see what I see. So you see the waves and you see the ocean, but you do not see what I see.”571 ¶9

Well now, I’ll take that into our level. He undoubtedly had a dream beyond the wildest dream of the nurse. I know sitting on the beach in Barbados or at home…I can see it now and I can hear the ship calling the captain. My father provided ships with food and liquor and all the things that they needed, and so he entertained the captain, the chief steward, and all that he served. I can hear the ship calling, this huge blast, in this little…because we were only about a quarter mile from the harbor…calling the captain, because the ship must leave to make the next port at sunup, and he and my father are getting more and more plastered down below. Then suddenly my father knows the call of the ship and he said to the captain, “Well, we have to go!” So he tells the man to hitch up the horse and they drive the captain, pour him onto a little boat, and he in turn is taken off by manual labor oaring to the ship and they aided him aboard. I often wondered how he could navigate that ship. But I would lie on my bed and I heard the call of the captain from the ship. Then my mind would dream of where is the next port. Mentally I would go into another port and another port.571 ¶10

I can see it clearly that I could not remain in Barbados dreaming these things where I had to take that ship and go. So at the age of seventeen, having placed myself mentally…because the Spirit moved, “And the Spirit of the Lord God moved”…well, the Spirit moves and the Spirit is my own wonderful human Imagination…so I placed myself in a foreign land and it was always America. I would dream of it, so at age seventeen they couldn’t contain me in that little island. My father knowing that he couldn’t, I’d run away, he simply allowed me to go to America. Because I’d placed myself in America on one of these ships where they were calling and calling.571 ¶11

So I say to everyone, the difference between living as the Jew…and the Jew and the Christian are one in the outer world, it’s all one…the true Christian is one who has heard the story and begins to live psychologically. That if I could only dream of my state and enter into that state as though it were true, that is putting into practice the fulfillment of Judaism on this level. For everything is promised to man if man understands the great mystery. So could you this night dream of the man, of the woman, that you would like to be? If you do, and you know exactly what you would like to be, you must enter into that state. It’s a creative act on this level, just as much as on the other level. On this level you must enter into it…as Blake said, “If the spectator could enter into these images in his Imagination, approaching them on the fiery chariot of his contemplative thought…if he could only enter into these states, well then, he would rise from the dead, from the grave.” Well, I am in a grave when I’m here, and day after day after day I’m in the same state that is the grave. If I could enter into these images in my Imagination as I approach them on the fiery chariot of my contemplative thought, well then, I would rise from this state into that state which I have entered.571 ¶12

Then I would meet the Lord in the air, and then I would be happy. I would completely change my world. “If it be not now,” said Shakespeare, “yet it will come. If it be not now, it will come. Readiness is all.” All I need to do is to be ready for it. Well, I’m ready for it the minute I enter into the state and accept it as fact. That is the readiness, that is all that it takes. So I enter into a state and feel the reality of that state, well then, that is the readiness, then it will come. If it be not now at this very moment yet it will come, and the whole thing will appear in my world. That I know from my own personal experience.571 ¶13

Locked in a little island with no means of getting out for months and months, I ignored the facts of life. Like the little boy on the beach, I see what they do not see. The travel agent said that you can’t get out, not until after September, and I want to be in New York City by the first of May. This is the month of April that I said to her I want to take my wife and my daughter to New York and be there by the 1st of May. “Can’t do it! There are hundreds and hundreds waiting in this island, and all the islands are waiting, and one ship services all the islands. One ship only carries a little over a hundred passengers. You can’t possibly get out.”571 ¶14

Well, I didn’t argue the point. I simply sat in my chair and I didn’t see what she saw. I simply walked up the gangplank and felt every little step and felt everything I could put my hand on, my foot on—fulfilling Judaism: “Wherever the sole of your foot will tread that I have given unto you.” Not I will give it; I have given it unto you. Read it in the 1st chapter of the Book of Joshua, the 3rd verse, “Wherever the sole of your foot will tread upon that I have given unto you.” Well, I took it literally but psychologically. I couldn’t possibly go aboard a ship physically, there was no ship there, but in spite of the absence of a ship in the bay I walked up that gangplank of a ship that I imagined to be there. I could smell the rawness of the ocean; I could put my hand on that rail and feel the salt that was gathered there because the salt of the sea driven by the wind collects there on these rails. I could feel the salt and I could smell the rawness of the sea. I could see the little island…and it was nostalgia…I hated to leave it and yet I had to leave it. I wanted to be back in New York City and yet I hated to leave the family in Barbados. This peculiar mixture of feeling…but it was a real feeling. There I looked and saw the little island where I’m leaving, and felt the reality of the ship.571 ¶15

And then, in a matter of moments the agent is calling me. They had a cancellation in New York City. In spite of the long, long line in Barbados alone plus all the other islands, she singled me out because there was one stateroom carrying two, but because we had the little girl only three years old she could fit in and sleep with either her father or her mother. So they could get three into this rather than two. They looked at it as a commercial venture and yet it was the answer to my prayer…what I was doing in my Imagination.571 ¶16

So I tell you, the Spirit of God moved. Well now, that is fact. But now I must know it psychologically…and that is Christianity. “You have heard it said, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I tell you any man who looks upon a woman lustfully has already committed the act.” Well, that’s a psychological state. I may restrain the impulse and think now I’ve kept the law, I didn’t perform the act. I wanted to but I didn’t…and I think I kept the law. Well, no one is justified by law in the presence of God we’re told, but no one. “Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing with faith?”. And so it is not the law on this level that allows man to transcend this world. I can take the law and work it perfectly on this level, but I must work it psychologically. Then I am preparing the way for the Promise. The Promise comes afterwards.571 ¶17

So here, I know exactly what I did. Then I said to her, “Why did you single me out and all these hundreds are waiting and there are thousands waiting through all the islands?” She did not answer me because she didn’t know. The orders came from New York City that there is one stateroom available and you give it to the one that you will. I was jumped from the bottom of a list of hundreds to the very top and I was given it…because I applied the principle.571 ¶18

How very difficult it is to be a Christian. A Christian lives by the Jewish law psychologically. There is only Judaism as the foundation of the whole vast world. I don’t care what they will tell me concerning this ism or that ism or the other ism; it is all in that solid rock of Judaism. But that rock must be turned into water—it is a psychological action. Then the water must be converted into wine: Man must apply it. Then he is ready for the Promise where God gives himself to that individual.571 ¶19

So I tell you from experience that if one knows how to move…and anyone can learn the art of moving. For motion can be detected only by a change of position relative to another object. I do not know that I have moved if I am still seeing the same objects that I saw prior to the attempt to move. If at this very moment I want to go to the end of the room but everything moves with me and I still remain there, I might have moved but I don’t know that I have because everything is moving with me. Therefore, things must remain relative to my motion so that when I move I can see that I have moved relative to some objects in my world. Well now, this carries forward not only in space but in states.571 ¶20

I want to move relative to my present position in my business. I am fulfilling a certain state, but I would like to be and I name it. Well now, if I were that, then move, move into it and enter into it. As Blake said, ‘“If the spectator could only enter into these images in his Imagination…” So I must penetrate it and enter into it. If I enter into it, the same people who worked in the office prior to my motion are the same people, but they come in and they see me differently. I have been promoted from the level where they saw me to the level where they must see me. Well, I stand in that state until they all see me. When they all see me fulfilling that state, that’s all I have to do. I have gone into the state and germinated it. I have fertilized it because I am the creative power; so I go into that state and there I remain until I feel that the whole vast office sees me as they would have to see me if it were true. There I remain…and then in no time…“If it be not now, it will come, the readiness is all.” That’s all that it takes. If I go in and remain there, then they must see it. The one who formerly may have disliked me has to see me through the eyes as I now see in myself and promote me if he has the right or the power to promote me. He has to jump me over all…as in little Barbados this agent jumped me over all who were on this long, long list of hundreds. She had to! And she didn’t know why she did it, no one knew. But they had to do it, because I went into that state and actually walked up the gangplank and felt the reality, and saw a world as I would see it if it were true.571 ¶21

So here, I give to the one…said he, “Wherever the sole of your foot will tread upon that I have given unto you.” Well, I’m a psychological being. I move from going to church on Sunday morning or Saturday morning and doing the outside things. I remain at home now and they think, “He’s a renegade. Who is he? He doesn’t come to church. He doesn’t eat the little piece of bread, he doesn’t drink the wine, he doesn’t do these things, so he is out of the pale.” But while home I move into states that they would all like to move into…but all of their prayers will not bring it to pass. They light candles, they do all kinds of things, and not a thing happens. And they keep on doing it year in and year out to the very end, and spend a fortune, even to their cemeteries, buying “holy ground.”571 ¶22

And you do nothing…you’d just as soon give your body to any other little group who wants to cut it up. They won’t find what you have found by cutting up the body. But if it amuses them…it saves you the price of having to dispose of it. That’s all you’re thinking of, because you know they aren’t going to find anything by cutting up your brain, but you give it to them and you save yourself a thousand dollars. So your wife can get the thousand dollars and they get the little piece of flesh. They cut the whole thing up and they find out nothing. They’ll die just as fast as the other ones.571 ¶23

I see where the one who is the first heart transplant, this fellow in South Africa, he is now quite ill, so that all of his transplants of hearts didn’t save his own, and now he is just on the verge of something. Well, it goes on that way, because all these things in this world actually mean nothing.571 ¶24

Learn to become a Christian, which is the fulfillment of Judaism. Judaism is the foundation. Here is the law…but it has to be turned from the rock into water. So Jacob comes into the field and the sheep must be watered, so he takes the stone from the well and he waters the flock. But he rolls the stone away first (the literal observation of the outside things of life). He simply rolls that away, and from it he draws water. Now, when we come to the same story in the New Testament, the first miracle performed in John is the wedding. So he takes the stone jars and he has them filled with water, and then he draws instead of water he draws wine. So the same story is told now in a psychological manner.571 ¶25

So that I take the literal story that God moved upon the face…and as the Spirit of God moved, something happened. Well, if God’s name forever is I AM, how can I move? Well, I’ve tried it and it always works. So if I assume that I am here, and I go to bed tonight knowing I am here, I’ll wake up tomorrow morning and I am here, and not a thing will happen in my world to move me elsewhere. But if tonight I go to bed and sleep as though I were elsewhere because I desire to be elsewhere, I wake tomorrow morning and I am still in L. A., but I will say, “Even though it is not here now, it will come.” What will come? What I assumed I am when I fell asleep. “If it be not now, it will come…the readiness is all.” And so I will simply put myself into the state, wake physically in this city to find that the phone will ring, a letter will come, all things will happen to compel me to make the journey, and I will go exactly where I have placed myself mentally.571 ¶26

So I have discovered what it meant that the Spirit of the Lord moved…because his name is I AM, and I say “I am” and I moved. So when I moved, who is moving?—I am moving. I move into a state and there I remain until it seemed natural and then I fell asleep in it. As I fell asleep in the state, well then, that’s how I produced a corresponding state in the outer world to bear witness to the fact that I can create, for I created that state by motion. For the first creative act recorded in scripture is “the Spirit of the Lord moves.” If he moves, well then, he has to produce corresponding states in the world.571 ¶27

But man doesn’t move. He goes to bed night after night after night and he sleeps in the same state that he slept the night before, though all through the day he hungers to change his world. But he has not yet become a Christian. And hundreds of millions who call themselves Christians are not yet Christians. Because Christianity is but the fulfillment of Judaism, which is turning the entire story that is the rock into water, and then the water into wine by application. So we are told in Paul’s letter when he wrote Timothy, he said, “Drink no more water now, but use a little wine for your own stomach’s sake.” Don’t anymore…just simply use wine now. You know it, you’ve heard it, apply it! The minute you apply it, you’ve turned water into wine.571 ¶28

So I tell you how it should be done: I gave you the water. Now, don’t use water anymore, apply it, try it.571 ¶29

So, “Examine yourselves to see whether you’re holding to your faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?” Well, if Jesus Christ is in me and he is the creative power of God, I must test myself so that I turn what I have heard by use into wine. So I turn now this wedding feast into the most glorious thing by applying what I have heard. You gave me the water and now I will turn it into wine. How will I turn it into wine?—by applying it.571 ¶30

I will go to bed this night and sleep as though I were the man that I would like to be and sleep as though I am that man. Well, I am…that differs from what I am this day…and that is motion. God moved and things happened. The thing that happened if he moved would change from what was, because all motion can be detected only by a change of position relative to another object. If I start moving from here to there and everything stands still, I know I have moved. I can tell it by the objects that I now see as I move relative to the objects. Well, you take that into states; it’s the same thing. And this is how this law works, and it cannot fail. It is absolute; it will not fail. But we are the operant power; it doesn’t operate itself.571 ¶31

So the first thing is presented to man in this glorious story in the Bible, and that is the foundation stone of the world: It’s Judaism. It’s the only reality in the world, that’s the solid. Christianity is not a new religion; it is only the fulfillment of one as old as the faith of Abraham, that’s all that it is. So Christianity as people claim in words hasn’t a thing to do with Christianity. A billion Christians in the world and they don’t practice Christianity at all. “How very difficult it is to be a Christian,” said Browning.571 ¶32

And when my wife had that vision where here is The Credence of Faith and the Forgiveness of Sin According to Judaism…then comes another woman with the identical book or title, and she reads from the same book but reads it differently. Then it dawns upon her how difficult it is to be a Christian. “And I always thought,” she said to herself, “it was infinitely more difficult to be a Jew than to be a Christian.” Now she realizes how difficult it is to be a Christian. In the course of a day you tell me a story and it doesn’t conform to what I want to hear, at that moment, if I’m a Christian, I don’t hear what you are talking about. So I don’t see what you see…I see what you see but you do not see what I see. So you tell me the story, the paper tells me the story, and all these things happen, but I don’t see it: That’s being a Christian. So I want to hear only what I want to hear.571 ¶33

Now here, we’ve just had an election. Last Sunday they had this panel of three men who followed the three different candidates, appointed by the different…well, NBC had one, and I presume they all had their many men. But there were three men and there was this panel. The one who followed Nixon, a young chap, they’re all young fellows, and he said, “The one thing that disturbs me, and I think disturbed us all as we heard him, no matter where we would go, he always spoke as though he were the president. That disturbed us all.” He left that panel still disturbed, “How could a man be so arrogant?” He spoke not in arrogance but he spoke in such confidence he was the president. He was not anyone seeking the office; he kept the whole in his mind’s eye. As he spoke to people no matter where he stopped, he spoke as though he were the president. While the others were appealing for votes and begging you to please vote for me so that I will become your president, he spoke as though he were.571 ¶34

Well, I know he has my record, because I have his letter at home written on the stationery of the White House thanking me for…that is, not thanking me, thanking the lady who sent him the record. But it was not a form letter, from the structure of the letter, so undoubtedly he knows the story of thinking from instead of thinking of, for that record that he got is The Law and The Promise, and undoubtedly the law would interest him with his ambition to be what he is today, President Elect. So if he heard it as he claimed in his letter, well then, he lived in it. If he lived in it, he has to speak from it. So man has to move from where he is into where he would like to be in order to realize what he wants in his world, and that is being a Christian.571 ¶35

You can be the pope multiplied by any number and you still are not Christian. Hasn’t a thing to do with Christianity. Claiming yourself to be infallible means nothing. Infallible what?—infallible nonsense, all these stupid concepts of life that haven’t a thing to do with Christianity. Christianity is Judaism turned from the rock that is fundamental, you can’t rub it out, into its water form, which is the psychological interpretation of these stories. So then you turn it into that and you understand it. The minute you understand it, will you then try it? As you try it, that’s turning water into wine…the first miracle as described in the Book of John. But man thinks, well now, here is a man who comes into the wedding party and there is no wine and he brings in stone jars, he fills them with water, and he draws out wine. Hasn’t a thing to do with that. This whole thing is a great allegory; discover the mystery in the allegory.571 ¶36

So I tell you tonight as you are seated here, dream nobly, the most noble dream in the world. When you know exactly what you want, then what would it feel like if it were true? And that moves you into the state so that you see the world as you would see it if it were true. If it were true, then you have moved from where you were…and that’s the first grand creative act: “And the Spirit of the Lord moved” and then things began to happen. Well, the Lord’s name is I AM. Well, you moved, didn’t you? You don’t see the same thing you saw prior to the moving. Well, if you moved, then that’s God moving. Well, God became you. Why?—that you may become God. And you simply move right into the state and there you are.571 ¶37

I tell it from experience. When I was completely sealed in the army…can you conceive…you go to jail and you know you’re given six months to a year but you know at the end of the six months you’re going to get out. When you’re drafted in the army, there’s no six months; you’re in for the duration. You’re not brought in for six months. Well, I was brought in for the duration in the Second World War, and I discovered I didn’t want any part of it. When I made my decision I didn’t want any part of it, well then, I simply assumed I am out, I am not on furlough, I am in New York City in my own apartment. So I entered into the state. I moved from Camp Poke, Louisiana, which is 2,000 miles away, into my apartment on Washington Square in New York City. I looked through the window and I saw the Holly Apartments. We were then on the…quite a height…and I looked…it was named 6th Avenue, now it’s called the Avenue of the Americas, but we still call it, those who are early New Yorkers, we still speak of it as 6th Avenue. So I saw 6th Avenue and then I looked over to the park and here is Washington Square. In my mind’s eye I saw everything. Then I walked through the whole apartment, all in my Imagination, returned to my bed and went sound asleep.571 ¶38

Nine days later the same one who disallowed my application was the one who called me in and granted it, after I saw this wonderful vision where I saw this perfectly marvelous paper and the hand scratched out “disapproved” as he had done and wrote in “approved.” And then a voice said to me, “That which I have done, I have done. Do nothing!” I did nothing, and then it all unfolds. Well now, I moved, didn’t I? And my motion produced a corresponding external state. Then in nine days I was discharged honorably by the same man who had disapproved my application.571 ¶39

So I tell you what I know from experience: Learn the art of psychological motion. When you practice it, even though you go to synagogue Friday night or Saturday morning, you are a Christian. Well, who was the first grand Christian?—Paul. He never denied that he was, he said, “I am of the tribe of Benjamin. I am of the seed of Abraham.” He never once denied it, but he showed them this was only fulfillment. And his namesake Benjamin Disraeli comes out and he said, “Christianity is but the fulfillment of Judaism.” But those who remained couldn’t see it, they kept on in the outward observance, and he realized that was not it at all. You could observe things forever and you’ll never get off the rock. You’ve got to turn the rock into water, and the water into wine, and then you’re free.571 ¶40

So this is the story. On this level you can’t hear anything more practical. Tomorrow, if you think you must know the right people, well then, you’re wrong. If you think you must have a certain intellectual background, well then, look into the world…if you think these things, look into the world. Onassis with his half-billion or billion, and he left school, if he ever went to school, and started earning a dollar at the age of sixteen. And don’t simply grant him some intellectual power. He undoubtedly, knowingly or unknowingly, knew how to dream and dreamed correctly. So don’t grant him any peculiar power…no, he’s no Einstein. If you began to talk to him on these things concerning an Einstein, he wouldn’t know what you’re talking about…but he has his billions.571 ¶41

All right, so he wants his billions. I hope you don’t want a billion…enough to live comfortably in this world and enjoy life, but not this sort of nonsense. But I hope everyone here would have an intense longing for the fulfillment of the Promise. That’s all that really matters, just the Promise. But in the meanwhile, we have to live in the world of Caesar.571 ¶42

All right, so take all that I told you this night…it’s the most practical thing I could tell you. This is how you achieve anything in this world that you want…I don’t care what it is. “And if it be not now,” said Hamlet in the very last scene before they all die, the 5th chapter, the 2nd Scene, where just before he drinks the poison because he’s waiting for them all to arrive… “If it be not now, yet it will come. The readiness is all.” He was ready and then this whole wonderful thing unfolded in the immediate present. But he knew it had to happen because he was ready for it, everything was ready. So I say to everyone here take what I told you this night, it will not fail you, but remember, you are the operant power, it doesn’t operate itself. You have to move, and you move from wherever you are to where you would be if what you would like to be you are. You move into that state and fall asleep in it just as though it were true, and that’s what happens.571 ¶43

Now, when it comes to the Promise that’s something entirely different. You will find that you will have eyes, eyes given you by one who was sent, and he will give you eyes to see who he told you that he was. No one in this world will know who he really is by words. He gives you eyes that you may actually see that he really is the being that he tells you that he is. Then you will know. The day will come, you, too, will give eyes to others that they may know that you are who you tell them that you are. And it goes on this way until there’s only at the end one body, one Lord, one God and Father of all.571 ¶44

But don’t forget what I told you this night concerning the use of God’s law. “So examine yourselves to see whether you are holding to the faith.” Do you really hold to the faith? If you believe this that I’ve told you this night, well then, examine yourself in the course of a day, are you holding to the faith? Test yourself to see. Now test yourself, am I really holding to the faith? Did I this day read a paper which sent me into the gutter and accept it? Did I receive a letter or something that pressed me into the gutter and I accepted it? Or did I actually hold to the faith and the faith is all psychological. I don’t have to accept anything that comes to me from the outside unless it conforms to what I’ve done. So no matter what comes, whether it be the newspaper or the radio or the TV or mail, if it doesn’t conform to what I want, I don’t accept it. If I don’t accept it, don’t just remain that way, put something in its place and revise it completely. For in her vision it was not only The Credence of Faith but The Forgiveness of Sin. And to forgive sin tests the individual’s ability to enter into and partake of the nature of the opposite. So what is the opposite of what I heard? Well, then if I can really do that, that is the forgiveness of sin.571 ¶45

Now let us go into the Silence. * * * Now, are there any questions, please?571 ¶46

My dear, I would not limit this motion at all. I would, were I you, I would move psychologically to the point where I could actually say I would not limit it at all. If you want to experience the Promise, I would not say, well now, it will come at a certain moment; I would move psychologically as I do here in the world of Caesar. I would move right in and feel it. The average person, may I tell you, is frightened by it. They can’t for one moment believe that such things are possible. They’ve been given the strangest concept of Jesus. Our scribes have distorted the entire story. But the entire story is distorted…about Peter going to Rome and Peter being the infallible pope. Read the 2nd chapter of Galatians if you want to think Peter is the infallible pope. Paul said to him, and Paul called it…of course it depends upon what translation you have…he said to him, “You are condemned!” because when he was with a Jew he only ate as the Jews ate, and when he was with the Gentiles he would eat differently. But when the Gentiles came in the presence of the Jew then he ignored the Gentile, which was called the heathen, the goyim. Then Paul, who was the Jew of Jews, the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin, of a Pharisee, and he knew the truth, and how he condemned Peter. If Peter is the root, as told in Catholicism, of the great apostle, you should read the 2nd chapter of Galatians. So I tell you, you go all out, and do to this wonderful Promise and feel as though what God promised everyone in this world he has fulfilled. See how it happens in your life. Live as though it were true. He didn’t tell me there was any limit to that promise: “Whatever you desire, believe that you have received it.” If that can be my desire, well then, I’ll try it. He didn’t say that this only applies to the world of Caesar. He said, “Whatever you desire, believe that you’ve received it, and you will.” But can man want that more than he wants to be known? The average man wants to be known in the world of Caesar, and his little life is just like a little flicker, but he wants to be known. He’ll say tonight, “Well now, she married this or she married that, and she has a million dollars or five million dollars in jewelry.” So what! And they want that. So you say to the average person…really they do want that, you know. They want money, they want prestige, they want all these things, and it means so much more than the Promise. The Promise doesn’t interest them at all. But if, in your case, you really would like the Promise above all things, sleep this night as though it had happened. But if it is secondary, well then, it’s secondary. You must want it, my dear, with all your heart, because this is the entrance into a new age…that’s the entrance into the kingdom of kingdoms. But if man doesn’t want it, he will say, “I’ll take it eventually.” “In good order” they’ll say. What they really mean is give me more of this. And so, I’m not a judge…I’m not here to judge anyone in this world. When he sent me into the world, it was only to tell this story. And the one that sent me was power, yet I stood first in the presence of love. So from the first was power I knew; yet I also knew prior to what I saw as power, it was love. It was love that came first in the presentation, when I stood in the presence in this divine assembly. But power did send me with the command “Time to act.” So I must tell of the power of God and this is the creative power. But I tell you, love came first.571 ¶48

But who knows what the longing of the heart was? On the surface you see what they see, because you’re looking at the same objective world, but do you really see what they see? When I was a boy and I heard the ship calling for the captain, others heard just a disturbance where they were trying to sleep; but I didn’t hear a disturbance, my mind began to dream. Here was the ship calling…and I knew exactly what was happening downstairs on the veranda…the two of them getting more and more lit, having fun. And the ship can’t sail without the captain, so after many blasts then my father would say, “Come, we must go now.” Oh, this happened time and again. But my little mind would simply dream and put myself aboard the ship. To this very moment I could smell any ship in the world. Do you know a ship has an odor unlike anything in the world? A ship, a galley, you go aboard any ship and the minute you enter a ship there’s a peculiar something about it. I must confess I love the odor that comes from a ship…it’s unlike anything in the world. As a boy I would dream of these ships. It was something entirely different…to get going from the little island that confined me. Well now, can you get going from the little island that confines everyone in the world and move into another age? He speaks of the two ages. So this age no matter how big you are…could be the president of our country, he is on a little island; and he has to dream of transcending it and want to give up what he thinks is so glamorous and so wonderful to enter an entirely different age. One must want it with all their heart, with all their soul, and when they want it then it comes. So I would say to you, if you said to me tonight, I want and you named it in the world of Caesar, the same answer I would give you to that…what to do…I would give you to this other age. Because there is no restriction placed upon that statement “Whatever you desire believe that you have received it and you will.” But, can you desire that to the exclusion of all else? Others have conditions attached to it…oh, they’ll come to that after, they will say. I have many friends of mine who have all the money in the world but they feel insecure, all the money in the world. They will say to me, “Well, let me get another million”—he already has millions—“or more”—because he doesn’t feel secure—“and that will come in its own good time.” All right, so he can’t possibly sleep this night as though it came first, can’t. It must come first: “Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven.” Well, can I make it come first or am I going to put it even a close second. Not a close second, it must come first. So you be the judge. I’m not here to judge. But I’ll tell you this much, there’s nothing on earth comparable. We have beautiful art in this world, but compared to the beauty…well, you can’t compare it. We just love and revel in the accomplishments of man in the world of Caesar, but you can’t compare anything in it to the new age. But how can I present it so that I can fire man to want it? Oh, there are moments…and you give your eyes that they may see, but you don’t lose the eyes that you give, you still have them to give. Still you do not lose them. No matter how often you give them, you don’t lose them. You only give them so that they may see that all that you said you were you are. Good night.571 ¶50

Personifications, Not Persons

In the Book of Nehemiah we are told that “They read from the book, from the law of God with interpretation, and they gave the sense so that the people understood the reading” . I wish that were true of today’s preachers; but unfortunately they have mistakenly taken personifications for persons and the gross first sense for the ultimate sense intended. Here in today’s paper 325 graduate students of fifteen Catholic colleges were asked to name their ten heroes in the order that they are to them heroic. No restrictions as to time…they can go back in time as far as they feel like…and Jesus came in fifth. They see him as a person. But even if he were a person, he is fifth in the order. Now, these are graduate students of fifteen Catholic colleges. The late President Kennedy came in first and his brother, Robert, came in second and Martin Luther King came in third…here came the order, ten of them. And you wonder what are they getting? After four years in college they still see the book as secular history. If you never went to college all well and good, but if you read it as literature as many of them do in college you would discover it is not secular history.569 ¶1

Now here, in biblical thought a name is not a mere label of identification; it is an expression of the essential nature of its bearer. A man’s name reveals his character. To know the name of God is to know God as he has revealed himself. As the Psalmist said, “Those who know thy name put their trust in thee” . But it is a progression of revelations of the name. It is first revealed as God Almighty in the name El Shaddai. Then it comes in the name of plain awareness, I AM. We are told the first was given to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, just as Almighty Power. Then the second revelation came to Moses and that was given as awareness, I AM. The full disclosure of his name we find in Jesus Christ, and that was the name of Father…a father-son relationship. “I have made manifest thy name to the men whom thou gavest me out of the world. They were thine and thou gavest them to me. I have made known unto them thy name and I will make it known that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them and I in them” .569 ¶2

But now, who are these characters? They have names too. We speak of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Jesus. Are they persons? No they are not persons. They are personifications of the eternal states of God’s play, and man has completely mistaken these as persons as you are a person and I am a person. These states are eternal. Learn to distinguish between man and his present state. In what state is the man now? It begins with Abraham. The call of Abraham as a state: the state of love, the state…he was a friend of God. The state of faith is really what the state is. In that state, you and I were shown the entire play in detail. Then the play comes to its climax and fulfillment in the state called Jesus Christ. It’s a state and when you reach that state then the play is over…and you are the author of the play. But to say he is my hero and I put him fifth as a person is to completely misunderstand the story in the Bible. It’s not understood at all if you can name him among characters that are characters of history.569 ¶3

As Blake said that it ought always to be understood when you open the Bible and you are reading anything in the Bible, “It ought always to be understood that the persons Moses and Abraham are not here meant, but the states signified by those names; the individuals being representatives or visions of those eternal states as they were revealed to mortal man in the series of divine revelations as they are written in the Bible.” Now he said, “I have seen these states in my Imagination; when seen at a distance they appear as one man, but as you approach they appear multitudes of nations” .569 ¶4

I say to you I have had that experience with Blake. Blake was born in 1757, died in 1827, eighty-seven years before my birth in this world of Caesar. And yet I know Blake. I met Blake this night, and after discussion of the usual theme “the mystery of God”…what else to discuss…he said to me, “Fall backwards…a complete abandonment of self, no restraint at all. It doesn’t matter if you smash yourself into nothingness…just fall backwards.” Then as though I fell off the earth I am hurtling through space like some interstellar body. Could be a star, yet I’m hurtling through space. And when that motion ceased and I came to a stop, I looked up and here in the distance is a single man, all aglow. His heart was like a flaming ruby. But as I approached him, here that one body contained multitudinous nations and races, all the people of eternity in that one body. Just as he told me “Fall backwards” and I took him at his word and fell backwards and fell off seemingly into interstellar space. Here I am coming closer towards a being, a glowing being, one being containing all the races, all the nations, everything in the universe.569 ¶5

Now we are being gathered back into that one being after the journey. It starts with the state called Abraham. Abraham was shown the entire thing before. As we are told in Galatians, “And the scripture, foreseeing that God would save and justify the heathen, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham” . You wouldn’t have thought Abraham if you take it as a secular story, a being of history, that he, preceding by 2,000 years, could have been shown the gospel. You would say, well, the gospel hadn’t yet taken place by 2,000 years and yet he was shown the gospel, God’s plan of salvation.569 ¶6

Well now, how does it work? “God himself entered death’s door, the human skull, with everyone who enters and lays down in the grave with the one who has entered that skull in visions of eternity, until they awake and see Jesus and the linen clothes lying there that the females had woven for them and the gate of their Father’s house” . Well, who entered? Jesus is not a man. He is the Son of redeemed man, all gathered together after the resurrection, after the experiences of redemption, gathered together into one being, and that one being is personified as Jesus. Well, who was it that entered? You are told it was the seed of God, it was the Christ seed, God’s son, who entered, and God’s son and God are one. In Galatians, the word translated seed that entered and that man must bring forward is sperma. It means “the sperm of man”…man is now identified with God. It’s not the physical sperm, that’s only a shadow producing bodies of death. It is the spiritual sperm. It’s called Christ in scripture, defined here as the seed and called the seed in Galatians . It also means “to draw out,” that is through the idea of extending oneself. God is ever-extending himself. So he plants himself in the human skull.569 ¶7

Now seemingly we are two, but we aren’t two any more. Through the dream and it’s God dreaming; then the barrier is removed and we become one, and we are individualized and emerge as God in the very end. When we emerge we are God, the Lord Jesus Christ. But the thing personified has been accepted as the thing signified when it’s only a sign. Jesus is a sign like Abraham is a sign, Isaac a sign, these are signs. But who is talking or witnessing to the thing signified? So here, when you read it try to keep in mind that these are only personifications, and try to find out what they are personifying. What is the thing signified by the name when you read Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Jesus or any character in scripture. Until you get the thing signified behind the sign, you’re going to miss it as you start to read scripture.569 ¶8

Quite often you find a Classic telling a far greater story than the things you hear from the pulpits on Sunday morning…infinitely greater. Here is a man who is a mathematician, and you know his play. You’ve all seen it and you’ve laughed your heads off at it. I could see it every week it’s so altogether wonderful—Alice Through the Looking Glass. “Let’s go and see him. Come, go and look at him,” cried the brothers and then they each took one hand of Alice and led her up to where the king was sleeping. Tweedledee said, ‘Oh, he is dreaming now, I wonder what he is dreaming about?’ Alice said, ‘Nobody can know that.’ Then Tweedledee said to Alice, ‘Why, he’s dreaming about you and if he stopped dreaming about you, where do you think you will be?’”569 ¶9

The dreamer in man is God, but he has to dream it in the sequence in which it unfolds, and it comes to the climax as Jesus Christ. You can’t omit any part of the dream. As our forefathers played it so will we. And the one who is playing it, who is the only actor in the dream, is God. God is playing every part in this world. So God is in the actual…right here dreaming and he has to dream it just as he wrote it in the beginning and showed the dream. It was essential to awaken himself and extend himself…for you were before that the world was. When you came down you were the son of God, an “I” of God, and he’s extending that, the same son, only enhanced by reason of the dream which he predetermined. So in man is the dreamer and that dreamer is God, the only God in the world, which is I AM. He’s dreaming everything.569 ¶10

So this mathematician known to us as Lewis Carroll…Dodgson was his name. Here we take a book, this lovely…we call it a child’s Classic. Child’s nothing! It tells so much. Everything was possible through the looking glass, everything. As told in scripture, “With God all things are possible”; so with the story, all things are possible…things are what I say they are. He dreams it and dreams it and brings it into its climax, into its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. When we find today our boys and girls coming out after four years of college and they could name this personification as a character of history that is bad enough. But to put that in the fifth place is unbelievable and these are Catholic colleges. I’m not saying that it would not happen in a Protestant college, it would happen there too. They might have put him in the tenth place. Many of them have no feeling towards him at all, no feeling towards the story, and they don’t believe it. But the dreamer is taking them through, as it is taking you through, as it took me through, and we go through everything in this world.569 ¶11

Now, it casts its shadow in this world. And in the shadow world we imitate God. That’s what he did…he is dreaming, he’s dreaming me. I heard it one night so clearly: “I laid myself down within you to sleep. As I slept I dreamed a dream” and I knew exactly what he was dreaming: he’s dreaming that he’s I. When he wakes, he is I and I am he. So he’s dreaming that he’s I, but now in this shadow world, for this is a shadow world. I must learn to imitate him. Well, if he dreams me into being and is dreaming me through all the things that I have experienced in the world, then I can start to modify some of it by imitating him and start to dream. Well, what would the feeling be like if it were true? That’s a dream…it has no fact to support it, not a thing in this world to encourage me to continue in that dream, but it’s a dream, a day-dream. If he dreams me into being and then asks me to imitate him as a dear child in this world, wearing this garment of flesh and blood, I’ll imitate him by singling out a noble dream for myself, my friends, for strangers for that matter, and then dare to dream it. What would the feeling be like if it were true? Just, what would it be like? Then get into this state just as though it were true and see if it doesn’t come to pass. I know from my own experience it does come to pass. But I want to encourage everyone who hears me to actually try it…and start tonight.569 ¶12

What would it be like? What would the feeling be like if it were true? For we are encouraged to use feeling in the story: “Come near, my son, that I may feel you” . You have the voice of Jacob, but come near. You tell me that you’re Esau, let me feel you to see if you really have the external reality with which I associate my son Esau. Jacob has no external reality, he’s a smooth skinned lad, but Esau has the external. This world is Esau right now; my dream is Jacob. But I must clothe Jacob with external qualities and clothe it with all the things I can muster to make it feel to me externally real, objectively real. Now, “Come close, let me touch you, let me feel you.” As he came close he felt like Esau, although the voice did have the sound of Jacob, but touch superseded the sound. The father was blind so he couldn’t see. So, “Come close and now let me touch you.” Touch has that fantastic sense of reality.569 ¶13

I know when you’re out of the body and you are awake, completely awake as you are here, well, you can touch something and it doesn’t give, it’s solid, it’s real. You look at something, you touch it and it’s real. You meet people, you hold them and they’re real. You hear them…all right you can hear them in dream too. But here, you see them, hear them, and when you touch them your hand does not go through them. You embrace them and you embrace a solid being, just as you’d embrace someone here. You know that you’re out in that world, that it’s not this world, but it’s just as real as this world. Then you begin to shake yourself loose from what the world tells you is the only reality. You can’t return to this world and ever again see it as you formerly saw it. No one can tell you that anyone is dead, and therefore by dead he is gone and he has ceased to be. No matter how wise they are who tell you that you can’t go along with them, because you’ve experienced other than what they are talking about. They are theorizing and you are speaking from experience. You step right into a world and you meet them. No one can tell me that I haven’t met them any more than tell me now I am not touching this lectern, that I am not in this room talking to you. This at this moment is more real than anything else now. But when I am in these worlds, they are more real than anything else…they are solid, solidly real.569 ¶14

So, go back now to the sense of touch, take anything and can you imagine that it could be touched? Well, you say, how could you touch money? You can touch money. Money even has an odor. And that’s one of the senses that he used. He said, “Come close, my son, that I may touch you.” When he came close and he touched him, he said, “You feel like my son Esau, and you smell like Esau…you have the odor of my son.” So he took two senses that to him were like touching, because he had to come close for him to detect the aroma, and he called it his son Esau. Then he blessed him and strangely enough he could not take it back. When he discovered that he was self-deceived, he could not reverse his blessing. You can’t reverse it unless you make a tremendous effort to change it. You set these things in motion and in their own good time they’re coming to pass, and every one will come to pass. They will confront you and you will not even recognize your own harvest. You’ll wonder when did I do it, but you had to have done it or it could not come to pass.569 ¶15

But in the big dream, it is God dreaming it and God is dreaming everything in the world. Well, you can’t mention one thing today that we think is new, fantastic, that is not recorded in scripture openly. You mention one vice…I’ll show it to you in scripture. Mention one vice, I’ll show you the entire thing in scripture and we think this is something new. I’m not denying that we have new lands, new this and the other, but I’m speaking now of the realities behind the appearances. They’re all recorded in scripture…everything is there.569 ¶16

So here, when you open the Bible and you come upon a glorious name like Jesus, still no matter how you’ve been trained in the past as I have been trained to see it as a person, an individual who was born of a woman in some strange manner, 2,000 years ago, don’t. Jesus is simply the personification, the representative of all who have achieved The End. Everyone who has come to the climax of the play is gathered into the one body and that one body personified is the Lord Jesus Christ. But who’s coming up? It’s the seed, the Christ seed, which is the Son of God. Listen to the words in the 3rd chapter of Galatians, “And the promise was made unto Abraham, and to Abraham’s seed. It does not say seeds, referring to many; but referring to one…and to your seed, which is Christ” . He identifies the man now with God…he became one with the one who made the promise. And then you are told in scripture he was told, “You are going into a land that is not yours”—it’s a foreign land—“and you will be enslaved and you will suffer for four hundred years; after that you will come out and inherit 100-fold more” . It’s an expansion of what you were…a hundred-fold greater than what you were. That’s the purpose of the entire play, to bring us who were sons of God and still are sons of God back into the kingdom but expanded beyond what we were when we started the dream.569 ¶17

So we entered death’s door with the Seed and together we are in the grave in visions of eternity. These are the eternal visions and they’re all eternal states and the states are real. So if you leave a state, don’t think you’ve rubbed it out any more than the traveler passing through a certain city when he departs from the city. It would be stupid for him to think the city has ceased to be because he has departed. The city remains, but you the traveler move on. You, the traveler in time, you move from state to state to state…and the final state is Jesus Christ. When you enter that state, you are born from above. You are completely awakened in the grave and you come out of the one gate called “the gate of your Father.” You come out and look back at the linen clothes which are the body and you see that that was what the females had woven for you. Your mother wove it for you, your earthly mother, and you come out and the whole drama surrounds you, everything that is recorded of Jesus. He’s only the sign you are now actually experiencing in the most solid manner…not gossamer, a solid reality.569 ¶18

So the Bible is an allegory and like all allegories you and I must discover its fictitious character, and having discovered that then try to ferret out what it is trying to tell you, what its real meaning is, and learn its meaning. So the story of Jesus is an allegory from beginning to end. It’s an acted parable, but man, unfortunately, has mistaken the personifications for persons and the very instrument itself that conveyed the instruction for the instruction. What arguments you hear from the pulpits Sunday after Sunday concerning these characters who are only personifications, and they speak of them as these graduate students spoke of him as their fifth hero. I tell you…believe me…it is true what I am telling you. I, too, thought that these were historical characters…that they lived, as we were told, a thousand years ago, 2,000 years, 5,000 years and so on, depending upon the age of the book that you are reading, but they did not. It’s a play that was conceived in the divine mind. It’s not of human composition; it has a divine origin. When you experience it, you know and you can bear witness to it.569 ¶19

Now, he calls individuals from time to time and sends them to be witnesses. They are the ones who are called in scripture apostles. But the apostle lives now in the world. Anyone who is sent has first to be called from this world. He is called out of this world into the heavenly world and there he is commissioned and sent, picking up the same garment that he left behind on the chair or on the bed, awed beyond measure with what he has experienced. Now he can witness to the truth of the gospel. He can not only preach it, but he is a witness to it. He tells you the difference between the thing signified and the sign.569 ¶20

Are we not told in scripture, “And the Lord himself will give you a sign. A young woman will conceive and bear a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel”. Well, Emmanuel means “God with us.” He is with us, with every child born of woman…and that already is the conception. The Seed is already there awaiting a certain, well, you can call it fertilization at a certain moment in time; and from then on it quickens within; and then the individual, himself, is the one who comes out. All that you see surrounding you are only signs bearing witness to your expansion. Your expansion was your birth; and you came out of the grave. Then you rose, you ascended, and the Spirit himself descends upon you and smothers you with love, because he seals his approval. He approves of everything that you are now…having gone through the dream. And who did it? God did it. And who awoke? God awoke. So when he awakes, you awake and you are he, even though you must still continue in your limited state until you finally take off the little garment of flesh and blood.569 ¶21

So try not to forget it when you read it. And I do hope you’re reading the Bible daily. As far as I am concerned, I find no book comparable to it, no matter how well it’s written and beautiful they are. But the Bible…but you get nothing out of it if you see it as the world sees it. Yet if you see it through the eyes of the mystic who has experienced scripture, then you will know who Jesus is, you will know who Abraham is, who Isaac is.569 ¶22

Well, take the very names. When you hold that infant, well, who is it? “He laughs.” And what is Isaac’s name? “He laughs.” Who was promised? Abraham was promised and he was promised what?—a son. And what did he call the son’s name?—“he laughs.” Yet it is only a sign. “This shall be a sign”—go and meet that little child wrapped in swaddling clothes, and he laughs. When you lift him up and you use an endearing term, he laughs. Then the whole thing vanishes.569 ¶23

Now, go to Moses. What does it mean? What does the man’s name mean? It simply means “to be born.” He could not yet enter the Promised Land because he wasn’t yet born. The word actually means “to be born.” It’s the old perfective of the Egyptian verb “to be born.” So Moses is to be born. The whole thing is leading up to the one being, which is yourself…for it’s all contained within you.569 ¶24

Believe me, I saw the one man and I saw him containing the entire universe. How can a man contain all? But I saw it. It seemed one man in the distance, and as I approached the one man a multitude of nations and races and people all in the one man. Then you’ll understand the vision of Blake: “All that you behold, tho’ it appears without, it is within, in your Imagination, of which this world of mortality is but a shadow” . The whole vast thing is yourself pushed out. In the end, you come out and you are that one man. All will be gathered together in the one being spoken of in scripture as the Lord Jesus Christ. In the end there is only the climax.569 ¶25

I wish I could tell everyone and convince them that there’s only one true gospel of Christ and that it is this: Mankind is redeemed—not going to be, mankind is redeemed…it’s done…the whole thing is done! If you’re passing through towards the climax, it doesn’t mean you aren’t going to reach there. There’s not a thing you can do in this world to prevent your reaching there and having the experience, because the drama is over. It has been accomplished. Christ is risen, so mankind is redeemed, and no one can be lost. There isn’t a beast in this world, a man so frightful, that he is going to be lost. Are we not told in scripture, “The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh.” Well, if the Lord hardened it, how can you condemn Pharaoh for not letting his people go? It is all part of the play. At a certain level you can’t see it and you will curse God like Job…as his wife said, “Curse him and die.” Curse God and die…why go through this? Yet Job is the story of every child born of woman, an innocent being put through hell by the will of God as told you in the last chapter, the 42nd chapter. Then his friends and his relatives came to Job and they feasted with him, and they loved him and comforted him for all the evil that the Lord God had brought upon him. No one else brought it upon him. The dreamer brings it upon you…you dream ignoble dreams and that dreamer is God. He does everything in the world.569 ¶26

Now, you take hold of yourself at the very end…as you are now. You’re coming into the last stretch as it were, and then alter the play. Make it conform to your noble dreams, your lovely concepts, and dream it in the same way the Father dreamed all the way through taking you with him. In the end when he brings you to the climax, you are he, not two anymore. He leaves everyone and cleaves to you his emanation, his wife, for he’s called in scripture “your husband.” “Your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name” . So in the end the husband and wife aren’t two; they have become “one being, one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one God and Father of all.” No room for two; there’s only one.569 ¶27

Now here, we’re coming to the end of our session. Not only dwell upon these lovely things concerning your ultimate end, but before we meet, if we meet again, you have the world of Caesar. You have so much to do in the world of Caesar that you need. You need homes or apartments, more money, this, that and the other. Don’t hesitate for one moment to dream it. Well, how do I dream it? I assume that I have it. My assumption is the beginning of my dream. I persist in my assumption…I am persisting in my dream. Although reason denies it and my senses deny it, my assumption, though at the moment denied by my senses, if I persist, will harden into fact. I have watched it unnumbered times. It will harden into fact. So have a noble dream. It will not interfere with the basic dream that is taking place in you; no reason in this world why it should interfere, and it cannot interfere. Take your lovely wonderful dreams and persist in them…just walk as though they were true. Try to touch them, give them reality. If they can give an odor, well then, try to detect the odor. I have tried it with just plain odor and taught others just to take the odor.569 ¶28

One lady one night said, “I will test it now.” She wasn’t altogether certain it would work, but she embraced a huge, huge bunch of flowers, roses. She could detect the aroma of the rose. It’s unlike any other aroma. When she was completely saturated with the feeling and the odor of roses, she simply dropped it. Not that night but the following night…she lived in the Waldorf Towers…as she was going to her room, here, she detected this aroma of roses. She wondered where they were coming from. She stopped in front of a door thinking it’s coming from here. It was so potent the entire hallway was permeated with the odor of roses. She looked into her own room, the window was open and so the draft was great as she opened her door, and here came this enormous overpowering odor of roses. She looked into her room and on her bureau three dozen beauties. It appeared that the Queen Mother, the present queen’s mother, was in New York City and this huge banquet, over a thousand attended for the English-speaking banquet, and she was the honored guest. So these beautiful roses were grown for her and were named after her. The next day when they were cleaning up, they asked the maitre de what to do with the roses and the maitre de said, “Well, I know that Mrs. Niemeyer loves flowers. Give her three dozen, and give so-and-so a dozen and give so-and-so a dozen.” But she was singled out because she loved flowers to be given three dozen beauties. They were simply perfect the night before, so they were just as perfect when they were brought to her room the next day. Here she was overpowered with roses. That’s putting it to the test.569 ¶29

So I don’t care who you are and I invite you to test it. I invite you to take the challenge. Are you not invited in the 13th chapter of 2nd Corinthians, “Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless of course you fail to meet the test?” So test him and see. You are invited to test him and see. Well now, that’s how I would test him, for he is the power of God, the wisdom of God, the love of God…all in that seed and that seed is in you. So long before he awakens as you, you can test him. Can’t you feel a rose now in your hand? There’s no rose here, but you can feel it. Feel that velvety quality of a rose and you can detect the odor if you know the odor of a rose…and who doesn’t? You can take any of these things and test it. If you say even just for the fun of it—for she did it just for the fun of it—she can well afford to buy roses. But she didn’t…she was given three dozen beauties.569 ¶30

So tonight, when you leave here make a pledge to yourself that you will live by it: lean against the hope that Christ is awakening in you. Because you can’t fail anyway, so just lean against it. Then take his promise that you can assume any state and it will become a fact…for that’s his promise. It’s not stated in these words but stated even more beautifully: “Whatever you desire, believe that you have received it, and you will.” You can’t state it any clearer than that. These are the words of an awakened man who is God, for every man who awakes in Jesus Christ is God. He has not a thing to do but bring forth himself. If you have Strong’s Concordance, look up the word that is translated “seed” in the 3rd chapter of Galatians, and you will see that it is the male sperm from the idea of extending oneself. It’s called “the seed” and it’s called “the Christ seed” .569 ¶31

So for anyone who is here for the first time…and I don’t think there is one for the first time…when you know what you want, construct a scene which would imply that you have it…any scene to you that would imply that you have it. When you’ve constructed it, just simply without bursting a blood vessel assume that you are seeing it, and try to touch it, try to hear it if hearing would do, try to see it with your spiritual eye. Bring all of your senses to bear upon this scene implying the fulfillment of a dream. After you’ve done it, persist in it in the sense that you know you’ve done it, that the whole thing is behind you.569 ¶32

Now, it seems strange to tell you, but our present moment is not receding into the past; it’s advancing into the future to confront us. So if I do it now, it’s not receding into my past, it’s really advancing into my future and I’m walking only to confront what I’m doing now. But man thinks what I have got now has receded and that’s past, that’s gone. It hasn’t gone; it’s always moving to confront me.569 ¶33

Now, let us go into the Silence. * * * Are there any questions, please?569 ¶34

Q and A

What is intuition?569 ¶35

Speaker

What is intuition? Well, I can’t give you the dictionary’s definition of the word; they may differ, but I feel that man brings into this world innate knowledge. He gets nothing from this world. As Blake said, “The world is too poor to give him anything…he brings it with him.” And so then he knows intuitively in the sense he knows it; he has an innate knowledge of something. That to me is intuition. Now, you may have a vision and that’s not intuition, because that to you is so graphic that no power in the world could dislodge it. When I saw the race three days before it took place, there’s no argument that anyone could give me to tell me I didn’t see it, and I saw it just as it came out. Had I any amount of money I would have placed it right on the nose of the one that really came first, Arts and Letters. I saw the end and I saw Majestic Prince second, the next post position, and I saw Dike third. I saw it. How could anyone tell me I didn’t see it? I saw it, saw the colors, and told my wife the next morning, and told my daughter on Saturday morning. She was going over to a friend’s who wanted the Prince to win. Well, I wanted him to win, too. But I didn’t know the jockey, the owner, didn’t know the trainer, I knew of them. But I had no personal interest, only a sentimental interest. So there was no reason for me to start doing anything. I wanted the Prince to have the Triple Crown. But I saw the race in the wee hours of Thursday morning, about four. I was closer to that race than I’ve ever been to any race in my life when I’m viewing it through these eyes, or even if I’m on the finish line. I couldn’t see it as closely if I had them up with glasses, for with the spiritual eye you see all the colors in detail. You see everything. I saw the horse come in on the rail and not a thing could catch him, pulling out, pulling away. I could hardly believe I saw it. And I awoke, may I tell you, I woke disappointed. I was disappointed because I wanted to see other than that. But I saw it and I had to go with my vision, for God makes himself known unto me in vision. And that was the end. It’s just as well that man does not know all that God has planned. He’s mad enough as it is. What would he do if he saw these fixed ends? Any other questions?569 ¶36

Speaker

What can you say about these beings who wrote the Bible as related to time and space?569 ¶37

Speaker

They are men conditioned by divine providence for the part that they played. They were completely unknown. Their names bear a certain significance. Tonight I started quoting Nehemiah, which means “Jehovah has comforted.” There is a great comfort if I can read something with understanding, and so in the 8th chapter, 8th verse, I quoted tonight that they read from the book the law of God with interpretation, and they understood that which was read, for the men gave the sense to it. Well now, that’s a great comfort to a man if he knows as he reads what is behind what he is hearing or seeing. The average person reading the book doesn’t see it, because Jesus has become to the entire Christian world and those who oppose the Christian faith, a man. They don’t see the mystery behind the word “Jesus.” It is the one name because that is the climax, the fulfillment of everything that belongs to the play, and all are gathered together into the one being. The word “Jesus” means “Jehovah”…same thing…it means “savior.” So everyone who has reached that state, although all are redeemed, they have to pass through the drama as it were and arrive at the point of redemption. But he is redeemed because the one man contained all, and all are redeemed. I’m not distressed when I hear of this one or that one—a lovely person goes to jail, all right, so he goes to jail. I’m not distressed. I can only say, what’s wrong with that one going to jail when others went to jail? So the papers make much of it if the man who is in jail has prominent parents…then he gets free space, an advertisement. He doesn’t differ from the other inmates.569 ¶38

Speaker

In the span of a man’s lifetime, how much is predestined and how much isn’t?569 ¶39

Speaker

The fixed things concerning the drama are all predestined. In the world of Caesar, you and I have a talent and we can exercise it. Your wonderful experience that you wrote me last week, I think it’s perfectly marvelous. When you realized after you tried to drown this one in a cage that you yourself were in the cage. Nothing wrong with that…simply a state…trying to let go or dispose of a state. You hadn’t completely let go of it, because it was still alive. But you recognized yourself in it. I think your other one concerning the child is perfectly marvelous…a wonderful adumbration of the event. You wanted that child with all your heart and you knew it was yours. The number seven is significant, for the seven means “a spiritual experience”…seven is always spiritual. So I liked your letter immensely. Until Monday…thank you.569 ¶40

All That Is Divine

In the nature of things it is impossible for any child born of woman to go unredeemed, for the moment he says, “I am,” he is proclaiming all that is divine in his flesh. Therefore, God cannot cast away that which constitutes the “I” of man without casting himself away, and that is impossible. Scripture teaches in the form of parables, and we must learn to distinguish between the parable told and its message.567 ¶1

In the 18th chapter of the gospel of Matthew we read that he placed a child in the midst of them and said, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.” The word “angel” means a messenger; to bring forth, and the word translated “child” means “an infant; a term of endearment.” Here we find a child is always beholding the face of the Father who is in heaven and bringing forth his message by becoming what he beholds. The reality of man is symbolised as that of the Christ-child, the incorruptible seed which is always beholding the face of the Father, molding man’s reality into the Father’s image that he may become one with his Father. Casting his shadow into a certain role, we judge the role, not knowing that the innocent child is doing it as he molds himself into the image of the Father.567 ¶2

In the world we play our parts by saying, I am rich, I am poor, I am known, I am unknown; yet all the while the innocent Christ-child (this incorruptible seed) is beholding the face of the perfect one, molding itself into the image of that which it beholds.567 ¶3

It is my desire to constantly see truth so clearly that I become its image and share it with everyone who will listen. Not understanding the horrors of the world, man thinks he is damned and not saved; but I tell you, every child born of woman is already redeemed. The being that is the child’s reality is molding himself into the image of the Father and becoming what he beholds. But in the world he is casting himself into the many parts to be played. At the moment he may be playing the part of a rich man or perhaps a poor man; still he is free to choose yet another state by applying the precept, “Whatever you desire, believe that you have it and you will.” You are always molding yourself into the image of what you are beholding, whether in this world of death or that world of life. But your Christ-child is always beholding the face of your Father and molding himself into his likeness, that you may know who you are and say within yourself, “I am He!” This seems fantastic, but it is true, for I am telling you what I know, not what I am theorising or speculating about.567 ¶4

No one can fail. God hardened Pharaoh’s heart so that he could not let his people go. Then giving them blow after blow, he again hardened his heart – so who is responsible? The child is dreaming he is Job as he casts his shadow and plays the many parts. But in the end you will understand why you put yourself through hell, and you will be given a hundred times more than you had before. You are playing a role now, and have played unnumbered roles in the past. Many of you here are playing the last role, but every role was for the purpose of molding you into the image of that which you are beholding. Always beholding the perfect image, hopeful that you will not deviate from it, you will become an image of truth.567 ¶5

Now he tells you, “If you abide in my Word, you will know that I am the truth.” You will know this when God’s son sets you free, and when your son sets you free, you are free indeed. In the meantime you are molding your face into the image of that which you are beholding. Now you see only the shadow world, but if you believe me and remember my words in your moments of despair, they will support you in your times of trouble.567 ¶6

In the 8th chapter of Proverbs, the little child tells us, “In the beginning, when the Lord created the universe, I was beside him as a little child. I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always. He who finds me, finds life. He who misses me, injures himself; all who hate me, love death,” for they are in love with this world of death.567 ¶7

When you view consciousness you must see the two relationships: the pure, unconditioned I AM, and the conditioned I AM. Now conditioned, I am aware ofbeing Neville, a speaker and teacher. Another condition placed upon pure awareness is that of a banker, a lawyer, or that of a thief. These are all conditioned states of being the little child has cast you into, and you are playing your part perfectly. You do not see that little child until the end of the play, at which time you will hold that infant in your arms and your intense feeling towards him will come forward into speech. In my own case I said, “How is my sweetheart?” The child calls forth a term of endearment, for when you find that child, you find life.567 ¶8

You find he who was beside the Lord when he created the world, and you will know that. He who misses me, injures himself, and he who hates me is in love with the world of death. Everything here is mortal, and in time the billionaire will leave his billions and the honored general will leave his medals. The billions will decay and the medals will tarnish. Everything here will vanish and leave not a trace behind, but he who played the part of the millionaire and the general cannot vanish. He is that little child within, who was one with God, and is God. It is he who watches and changes the image until he is as perfect as his father in heaven is perfect. He is building the same image and when he reflects and radiates it, you will find that child and speak words of endearment to him.567 ¶9

The child is but a sign of your true being who is casting himself into these many roles. He cast me into the role of a poor boy, in a family with no intellectual, social or financial background. Then he brought me out as the perfect image of the Father for me to discover my own being. That is the story of everyone in this world.567 ¶10

Now, he gives you a cushion by telling you that, through the act of assumption, you can fulfill every desire of your heart. Knowing what you want, you must assume that you have it in the same sense that the Christ child is assuming he is what he is beholding. You must behold yourself as secure if that is your desire. You must behold yourself as healthy if that is what you want. You must feel yourself into the state desired with the same persistence as Christ in you is feeling himself into the image of the Father, for he never deviates from that wish.567 ¶11

When you know who you are, you will discover that you are free to be anything, go anywhere and possess every desire of your heart. You will also know that, no matter what you have gone through, what you are going through or what you may go through, you will be redeemed, for he, in you, will not falter watching the face of the Father.567 ¶12

As Blake said so beautifully, “You will see from what I teach, that I do not consider either the just or the wicked to be in a supreme state, but to be everyone of them states of the sleep into which the soul may fall in its deadly dreams of good and evil when it left paradise following the serpent.” It was the serpent, the symbol of eternal life, that said, “Did God say you would die? I tell you, you will not really die, but will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Eating of the tree of good and evil, you remain in the world as you judge another; but behind your mask is the Christ child, who is molding you into the image of the Father. If you find yourself in a state you do not like, apply this principle and assume you are free from all encroachments, knowing in the depth of your soul that you are seeing the face of your Father.567 ¶13

When you first see him you do not know he is the Father. Just as a child knows its parents before he knows they are his parents, you will know God before you know he is the Father, and you know the Father before you know he is yourself. This is how consciousness awakens in the world.567 ¶14

The son of man comes to save those who are lost by their wandering consciousness. You simply wandered from the state, that is all. You are not lost. When you say, “I am,” you are in, of and moving towards the I AM. Always in him and of him, you are moving towards consciously thinking from being the one I AM. Everyone is moving towards being that I AM, for everyone is in imagination, of imagination, and moving towards knowing consciously that he is all imagination. Everything in this world invites you to wander away from the I AM. Urged to believe in that pill, this diet, a man, you move away from your true identity and become lost as your consciousness wanders. But it doesn’t really matter, for you cannot be lost, as the son of man will come. He is the one in whom the ideal has been realized. Called Jesus, he is the personification of the incorruptible seed which awoke, budded, flowered, and bore its fruit. And in that state you move towards Fatherhood when your son David reveals your true identity.567 ¶15

Last lecture night I tried to make my message clear, but there were those who did not understand, so I shall repeat it briefly now. The message is simple. In scripture, the expression “Christ” is used of the human race and of the human who has achieved the ideal. The human race, with all of its generations and experiences, is personified as the eternal youth, David. Now the being in whom the ideal is realised is called Jesus, who is God the Father, whose son is David. Everyone in whom the ideal is attained is Jesus, and in the end there is Jesus only, who is the one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one God, and Father of all. You, individually, will attain the ideal when you are confronted by your son who bears witness to the fact that you are God the Father. This may not be the easiest thing to grasp, but you dwell upon it. Lean against this truth in time of trouble.567 ¶16

That is what Paul meant when he said, “I consider the sufferings of this present time not worth comparing to the glory that is to be revealed in us.” Paul never doubted this heavenly vision was the promise God made to the fathers, but he didnít spell it out. I am trying my best to make it as clear as possible. The sum total of your experiences in this world of humanity – no matter how cruel they may have been – when fulfilled, produce David; so in the end you will say, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” On this level we judge and condemn, but these parts must be played by you, an individual, before you can produce David, and when you see David you know you are God the Father and that is Jesus.567 ¶17

Now, he calls a child and puts him in the midst of them, saying, “Let no one despise one of these, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father, who is in heaven.” Why? Because a man always becomes what his “I” beholds.567 ¶18

You can take anyone and represent him to yourself as the man (or woman) you would like him to be and, if you do not waver in that representation, he will conform to it. If you want someone to be big in your world, you must make him big in your mind first, and treat him that way morning, noon and night. If you see him as that being, he cannot fail, because he must become what you behold. But you cannot waver. The moment you listen to a rumor, you change the picture, and you cannot.567 ¶19

Many years ago I read the story of famous theatrical mothers and their sons. One was Milton Beryl. He was her only child and she built her world around him. She would join the group of boys playing ball and tell them that Milton was the star, and whatever he said, they were to do. If they did not, she would take their ball and bat away. The story listed a dozen such children whose mothers held that ideal of their sons in their mind’s eye. They did not falter and therefore their sons could not fail. They had to become what their mother beheld of them.567 ¶20

If a mother compares her son to another child and finds hers wanting, she has broken the image. She sees him less than, but she must see him as great and never falter in her image of him if she really wants him to be great. Now, there is something in you that has never taken his eyes off the face of the Father and will not deviate until you are perfect. In the meantime, it casts its shadow and you play the part of a bum, a part necessary to bring the image into focus. Then it will cast another image and yet another until you are perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect.567 ¶21

But what is the reality of your flesh? “I am.” When you say “I am,” you are proclaiming that which is divine and cannot be cast off unless God is willing to lose himself, for the “I” in you is God. Therefore, God cannot fail to achieve his predetermined goal, which is to fashion himself into and eventually become the Father.567 ¶22

What a mystery! Just think, before that the world was, you were predestined to become its author, its actor and the one who supports and sustains it. You, who have played many horrible parts, are Jesus. And when your image is perfect, you will awaken as he who is God, the Father of humanity. And when humanity is gathered together into a single being and projected, you will see your son David. That is the mystery.567 ¶23

What the next play will be I do not know. I only know that, until everyone has awakened, this play is not complete. So, donít criticise, or condemn, because – from above – we will aid every being here to come home. We are the ones called, “Those who came to save the lost.” First we seek him, then save him by bringing that wandering consciousness back to the vision of the Father.567 ¶24

Now my one consuming desire is to see truth so clearly that I become an eye-witness and can tell my experiences just as they happen m me. I am not asking you to stop giving your money to charity if – in the giving -it gives you pleasure; but giving to the poor and needy is not going to save you. Only that which is in you, whose face is focused on the eternal Father, can save you by becoming what he is beholding.567 ¶25

As he sees it, he casts its shadow. Knowing you need a certain experience embodied, he casts its shadow, yet gives you a cushion, telling you that whatever you desire, if you will but believe you have received it, you will. You may now be cast in the role of a poor man, but you need not anchor yourself there by claiming you cannot become rich. Rather, you can cast yourself in the role of a rich man by believing you are rich. You can cast yourself, consciously, into any role you desire to express while you are molding yourself into the image of the Father.567 ¶26

The Bible is filled with wonderful stories which the scholars have misunderstood, like the one I quoted today. “He put the little child in the midst of them.” Scholars wonder who the little child was and what became of him, for they read it as a secular story and the Bible hasnít a thing to do with any happening on earth. Jesus is not a man of secular history. He is a representative of every man within whom that incorruptible seed blossomed and bore its fruit. The resurrection, the birth, the discovery of the Fatherhood – all of these are the fruit you are bearing. There is nothing comparable to this truth.567 ¶27

If you owned the world, what would it matter if tomorrow you died and left it all? What would be the point of living if there were no end to this mortal life? But what I am telling you is true. You are an immortal being who cannot die. Dead though the body seems, you, its reality, cannot die for your I AM is God. There never was another God and there never will be another God. You are slowly awakening to the realisation that you are the God who created everything and that no one is greater than the other. In this world we all try to be better than the other, but when the truth is revealed, we will know that there is only one son and only one Father. And, if I am the father of David, and you are the father of David, are we not one? Then we will understand the great Sh’mah: “Hear, O Israel, the Lord, our God, the Lord is one.” He is the one Father, and cannot be two, but if he is a father there must be a son to bear witness to his fatherhood. If you have the identical experience as I do, are we not one? So in the end there is only one God, one Father, and one son. The one fell asleep and is dreaming this scattered, divine state into being. In the end we all will awake as the one who fell asleep, yet we will not lose our identity. I will love you dearly as a seeming other, yet know that we are one.567 ¶28

Itís a peculiar mystery. We are all God the Father, for there is no other being. God first reveals himself as almighty power, then as “I am,” and finally as infinite love, the Father. So, why are we here? Blake put it beautifully: “We are put on earth a little space that we may learn to bear the beams of love.” In your present state you could not stand the beams of love, for Godís infinite love is sheer power. We see power used in going to the moon, and we contemplate going to Venus and Mars, but the power to get us there is as a firecracker compared to your true being who brought the world into being and sustains it.567 ¶29

One day the play will be over and, I don’t care what a man has ever done, he will awaken as God. Put yourself now, in the part of a father whose son is accused of a horrible act. Loving your son, would you not want him to go free? I know I would. I would regret that he did it, but I would forgive him and want him to go free. Read David’s story carefully and you will find that there is not a thing that man could do that David did not do. He sent Urias into battle, knowing he would be killed so David could have Bathsheba. Although he had a thousand wives of his own, he stole a manís wife because he wanted one more; yet he was called the perfect man, the Lordís son, “A man after my own heart who will do all my will.”567 ¶30

David is not a little man born of a woman. He is spirit. Personified as an eternal youth, David is the result of your journey into the world of death. When the Christ child, in you, has put you through all the generations of men and you have experienced everything you agreed to in the beginning, you are perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect, and you have formed David, your son, to reveal you to yourself.567 ¶31

The world thinks Jesus Christ is the son of God, but I tell you Jesus is the Lord. This is a mystery. David comes in the spirit and calls Jesus “Father.” Humanity is Christ, the son and Jesus is God the Father. I cannot open your skull and force the solution to this mystery into it. I can only give it to you in words, but I can tell you that the day is coming when you will experience my words. Your skull will explode and you will experience everything said of Jesus Christ in the first person, singular, present tense. Cast in the major role, you will know you are he, even though you will remain a very limited being in this world of mortality. You came into this world of death to overcome it, bringing with you the incorruptible Christ seed who is beholding the Father, transforming you into his image. And since the Father cannot beget another, he is begetting himself.567 ¶32

But while you are here, take his wonderful precept and believe that you can have anything you desire. There is no restriction placed upon the power of belief. There is no need to first consult some holy man to see whether you should have it or not. You be the judge. Choose your desire and, to the degree that you are self-persuaded that you have it, you will get it.567 ¶33

And, because we are all one, if it takes one million people to aid the birth of your assumption, they will do it, without their knowledge or consent, so you don’t have to ask anyone to aid you. They will do it not even knowing that they are. All you are called upon to do is to assume that you have it. An assumption, though false, if persisted in will harden into fact. That is the principle.567 ¶34

Behind this fantastic play where you are awakening as God, we have a secondary state. In it you may be cast into the role of a poor man and need Caesar’s coins to meet his demands of taxes, rent and food. So you can render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s by assuming that you have that which Caesar demands, and remain faithful to that assumption.567 ¶35

In the meantime something else is taking place in you which is infinitely greater than Caesar’s world, for this world will come to an end, but the kingdom of heaven is forever as it is eternal. Caesar’s world is one of death, but the human imagination is eternal life. It is the human imagination who will reveal your true identity to you when you are perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect. Then you will see David, the sign that you have reached the end of the journey. Having played all the parts, you are the conqueror and your crown is waiting for you as your son reveals your Fatherhood.567 ¶36

If the Lord tells David, “Thou art my son, today I have begotten thee,” and David calls you Father, are you not the one called God in scripture? It seems so silly for a little man, one of billions, to make these extravagant claims, but they are true. Einstein was a man of small stature, but he conceived an idea that has changed the thinking of the entire world. So God, wearing the mask of a little man, takes it off to reveal his true identity, and the little manís words, believed, will change the world.567 ¶37

So the little child was brought and put in the midst of everyone. Don’t despise him, for he is the one who was with me in the beginning of time. “When I laid out the foundations of the world, he was beside me as a little child. He was daily my delight, delighting forever in the affairs of men. He who finds him, finds life. He who misses him injures himself. He who hates him, loves death.” The little child is a symbol of you, molding yourself into the image of the Father. You are casting yourself into these shadow worlds and when you are perfect you will radiate your Father and bear the very stamp of his nature. Then David will stand before you, in the Spirit, and call you “Father.” Now let us go into the silence.567 ¶38

The First Principle

Do not accept any statement from scripture, the church, or an individual (including the speaker) as true until you have found God or a living truth in what is being said. What I tell you I know from experience, but I ask you not to accept my words without questioning them within yourself. It is silly to accept something simply because the church said it, or you read it in the Bible, or heard it from Neville. You must pursue the thought ceaselessly by questioning yourself.564 ¶1

Why do I stress this? Because among the spirit world there are many Babel’s where no two speak with the same tongue. One may tell you to give up meat, while another will tell you something entirely different. This we are told in the 11th chapter of the Book of Genesis. I am not speaking of multiple tongues as the many languages we have today. We can overcome those with an interpreter; but if someone tells you: “This is the way,” and another says: “No. This is the way,” and they don’t agree – you are in Babel, a city of confusion in the pathway of the spirit.564 ¶2

So tonight I want to talk to you about the first principle, which you can always fall back on when in doubt. This first principle is: “Be still and know that I am God.” No matter what happens, turn within and be still. Know that your awareness is God and that all things are possible to you. Test yourself and you will prove this statement in the testing; then you will be free from your former limitations of belief. No matter what is happening on the outside, turn to the first principle. Start by being still, then claiming: “I am God.” Ask yourself: “Is this true?” You will never know the truth until you test it.564 ¶3

Let us now look at some of the “I am” statements of scripture. I am the resurrection. I am the life. I am the way. I am the truth. Are these statements really true? Yes, I have stilled myself and know that every statement is true, from experience.564 ¶4

Being human, I wanted things in the world of Caesar, as undoubtedly you do, too. I wanted a trip I could not afford, yet I traveled over 5,000 miles by being still and saying to myself: “My awareness is God and all things are possible to him. Therefore what I am imagining will come to pass.” Then I began to imagine I was on a ship sailing towards Barbados. I remained faithful to that act when suddenly – after twelve years – I received a letter from the family saying they would take care of all of my expenses if I would come home for Christmas. So I proved it. Then I tried it again and again, and the more I tried it the more I realised that the statement in the 46th Psalm was true: that God really is my own wonderful consciousness, for I learned to be still and know that I am God.564 ¶5

I couldn’t prove the other fantastic “I am” claims by taking the same action. I had to wait, and then one day I proved that I am the life. That night I moved in spirit into an environment where I intuitively knew that, although what I was seeing seemed to be independent of my perception, if I arrested that feeling within me everything would stand still. I did it and discovered that not only the animate, but the so-called inanimate objects stood still. The falling leaves stopped in mid-flight. The blades of grass ceased to move. The bird in flight, the diners as well as the waitress – all were frozen as I stopped the feeling within me. Then I knew the truth of the statement: “I am the life.”564 ¶6

After proving to myself that I am the life of a state, I questioned the statement: “I am the resurrection.” Then came the day when I felt myself resurrect within the grave of my own skull. I proved that I am the Father when my son came in the Spirit and called me “Father.” I discovered that I am the one who was sacrificed, for – knowing I am the Father – my spiritual body was split from top to bottom. Then I discovered that I was the one upon whom the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form as a dove. These things I now know to be true from experience, therefore I speak with authority.564 ¶7

But I say to everyone: whether you hear it from me, a church, or the Bible – question yourself ceaselessly until you have found the living truth in that which was said. Accept the words, but then go back to first principle and ask these eternal questions to the only one who can answer them: your own wonderful I AMness.564 ¶8

Relax. Be still and question yourself, saying: “Are you really God?” Address yourself as though you were two. “If you are God and can do all things, prove it to me by giving me my desire so I can feel its presence now.” See if he will prove himself in performance and when he does, do it again. Keep on asking and when he proves himself here on this level, then let these things which can’t be put to the test come through, for they will.564 ¶9

Now, the Bible tells us that Christ is in us and that we are in Christ. On the surface it seems to mean the same thing, but there is all the difference in the world. Christ in us is our hope of glory. That’s a universal assumption, for Christ has assumed the body of every child born of woman. But when you are in Christ you are a new creature. Christ in you does not make you new. Christ in you is your life, for in him is life and his life is your consciousness of faith. But when you are in Christ you are called and incorporated into the body of the Risen Lord. Because Christ is in you, you are a son of God; but when you are elected – called into the presence of the Risen Lord and incorporated into his body – you are in Christ. There is all the difference in the world, for from then on scripture begins to fulfill itself within you.564 ¶10

If you question everything you hear from any pulpit, the speaker, or the Bible, you will find God or the living truth in what you have heard or read. I hope that you trust me, but even though you do, question everything I tell you. Don’t question me or some priest or rabbi, but turn to the first principle. Be still and say to yourself: “I am God. I heard this statement tonight – is it true?”564 ¶11

I tell you: although it is difficult to believe, we are living in a fabulous world of shadows. This past Thursday morning as I was returning to the surface, I saw the finish of the Triple Crown race at Belmont in detail. Now this was Thursday and the race was not to be run until Saturday, but I saw the finish so clearly that if I had a million dollars I would not have hesitated to bet it all on the one I knew to be the winner. In fact I knew the race could not be reversed. It was fixed and finished.564 ¶12

Then I asked myself: “What is this world? Is it not a school of educated darkness?” Man thinks that in some strange way he is going to improve this world, but it is a schoolroom and will remain just that. The kingdom of heaven is not interested in improving this world; it is only interested in taking people out of this world by drawing them into itself – which is an entirely different world. But we can change the events in this schoolroom through the act of revision. I had no desire to revise that race. I could have, and that which was completely finished, in detail, would have been changed. In scripture the word is “repentance,” which means “a radical change in thinking.”564 ¶13

Tomorrow morning as you come to the surface mind, observe and record what you are seeing, for you are observing that which will take place tomorrow or next week in this world of shadows. And if you don’t like what you see, change it. Don’t do as you normally do by jumping out of bed, washing your face, and once again find yourself locked in this world of shadows; take a moment and observe your future.564 ¶14

I urge you to question everything that I tell you, everything you read in the Bible, and everything you hear from some pulpit, ceaselessly. Keep on questioning and questioning until you find God or the living truth in what is being said. I am telling you what I know from experience. It is true.564 ¶15

One day you will discover that you are the life of the world, that everything you think of as permanent and independent of your perception is within you. You will know that the world reflects your thoughts. It is a shadow and you are its life. You will realise that its activity is not out there, but in you; and you will stop it and start it again, all within yourself. So when you read: “In him was life, and his life was the light of men,” you will know its truth.564 ¶16

God is in you, yet you know him not. But when he begins to stir in you, as you, you will say: “I am the way, the truth and the life, and besides me there is no other.” Then comes that moment in time when you know the truth of the statement recorded in the 11th chapter of John as: “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.” Knowing you are the life, you will resurrect from the dead to die no more. You will still not know you are the one the angels spoke of, when they told the shepherds they would find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, until you hold that sign in your arms. God’s son, David, will call you Father, and your spiritual body will be split in two from top to bottom. Then you will know you are the sacrificed one. And finally, you will discover you are the one upon whom the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form as a dove; then you, too, will have found the truth.564 ¶17

I know scripture is true, because I questioned it. I started questioning the law because I was interested in things. Having no money, I wanted a trip and I got it. Then I began to tell others, as I wanted to see them take the same principle and test it. As they proved it they told others.564 ¶18

I invite you to prove the truth on this level, and have faith that the truth is equally true on the higher level of your being. Continue to test the law for things in this world and accept God’s promises on faith, based upon what you have proved by the law.564 ¶19

Do you know what you want? I will tell you a simple way to get it. Simply catch the feeling that you have it and sustain that feeling. Persist in acknowledging the joy of fulfillment. In your imagination tell your friends your good news. Hear their congratulations, then allow him who heard your friends and felt your joy of fulfillment, bring it into your world, for he who can do all these things is within you as your own wonderful I AMness, your Imagination, your consciousness. That is God.564 ¶20

Test God, for he will not fail you. Then, when he proves himself in performance, tell a friend, and continue telling others as you exercise this law. And walk knowing all the other I am statements are yours. Prove this in the world of shadows and you will prove the other in the world of reality.564 ¶21

Your I AMness is the true eternal reality. Living in a world of shadows, as you declare your I AMness you are declaring eternal truth. When you say, “I am the resurrection,” that is eternal truth. “I am the life” is eternal truth, as well as “I am the way.” All of these bold certainties preceded with the “I am” are eternal truths. So, do not listen to anyone who screams at you from their tower of Babel and tells you of another way, for there is no other way. You don’t have to give up meat or only eat fish on Friday in order to enter the way, for the way to the cause of all life is within you. Believe in your I AMness for there is no other God.564 ¶22

In First Timothy, we are told that it is God’s desire that every man be saved. If it is God’s desire and God is in every man, then God is saving himself. This I know to be true, for I have proved to myself that I am God. I know I am the life, the resurrection, and God the Father; yet I do not differ in any way from any other. I have shared my experiences with you in the hope that you will test my words and prove them in the testing.564 ¶23

Ceaselessly question yourself. Don’t go to a priest and ask him if I am telling the truth, for he is Babel, screaming his belief, as is the rabbi. Do not go to another; turn within and apply the first principle by being still and claiming: “I am God.”564 ¶24

The 46th Psalm is truly a beautiful psalm. I have read where certain people in their little jokes claim Shakespeare wrote it, incorporating himself into the chapter by making the 26th word “shake” and the 46th word from the end “spear.” Others claim it was Rufus’ song. Living in the 16th century, Rufus did claim that this psalm inspired his majestic hymn, which moves everyone who hears it, but he certainly did not lay claim to the psalm itself. It is “A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.” Who knows who the Sons of Korah are; I do not know. The word “Korah” means “a shaved head.” But you and I know it is a fantastic psalm; and in the 10th verse it is said: “Be still and know that I am God.”564 ¶25

Tonight, when you go to bed, just say: “I am.” Add any condition you want to that I am and believe it. Speak to your imagination as though you are speaking to the God who created the universe and sustains it, for you are. When you imagine something, ask yourself who is imagining it, and you will say: “I am.” That’s God’s name forever and ever. Imagine and fall asleep imagining. Believe that all things are possible to your own wonderful human I AMness.564 ¶26

Test yourself! You don’t need to get down on your knees and pray to anyone on the outside. There is no need to cross yourself before any icon, for the Lord is your human imagination, your consciousness, your own wonderful I AMness. Nothing can ever cease to be, for God – he who is in you as your consciousness – created it in love. At the present time Christ is in you, making you a son of God. But one day scripture will unfold within you and you will be in Christ, knowing yourself to be God the Father.564 ¶27

Do not take anything on face value. I have proved that the Bible is true, but you prove it to yourself. Ask yourself what is meant by the statement: “I am the resurrection. I am the life. I am the truth. I am the way.” Question yourself and you will discover the answers unfolding within you.564 ¶28

In the 25th chapter of Matthew, the story is told of ten virgins. Five, having no oil, are told there is none to spare, so they must go get their own. Ask yourself why they did not give to those who had nothing and it will be revealed to you that, prior to the coming of the bridegroom (who is the Lord), you thought there was a limit to that which you could give; but when you have union with the true bridegroom – who is all love – you know no limits, for everything is possible to you.564 ¶29

In his Book, Mark speaks of the adulteress generation. Do you know what an adulteress is? One who turns away from the truth, for when you turn from the truth you turn from the Lord. Anyone who has heard the truth and still looks for an outside cause, rather than to his inner thoughts, has committed adultery. He has turned from his spouse, whose name is “I am.” It’s just as simple as that.564 ¶30

If you watched the race last night, you would have heard all these wise men tell of what should have happened, yet the race was perfect. Not one person on that field could have done anything other than what he did. I could have told them, but who would listen to one who can’t even ride a horse, let alone train one. Having seen the race prior to its running, I couldn’t get excited when I watched it on television, for I knew exactly who was going to win. Then I realised that if everyone knew the end there would be no excitement.564 ¶31

We live in a wonderful world, thinking we are going to change things, but nothing is changed on the outside. They can only be changed from within. I had no desire to change the race, so I saw it just as it would have to come out unless someone who knows the law had changed it from within. I ask you to apply the law and change the seemingly inevitable ends – from within.564 ¶32

I am telling you the truth based upon my own experiences. Your I AMness is God, he who is the resurrection in you. He is the life of your physical body, the life of the bird in the air and the leaf on the tree. One day you will feel a vibration within you and know that if you arrest it everything you perceive will die, yet not vanish. It will not decay, but will remain frozen in time and space forever, for it has no life. You – life itself – animate it. Then you will release that vibration and everything will become animated once more.564 ¶33

In the 4th chapter of the Book of Luke, we read the statement made in the 61st chapter of Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me.” This statement I know to be true, yet I ask you not to accept my experiences, but to question them by questioning the one being who can give you all the answers. He will, when he feels himself in you. Then he will reveal himself to you in the first person singular in a present tense experience.564 ¶34

Everyone is going to have these experiences, but when, I do not know. Don’t let anyone tell you that you have so many days, months, years, or lifetimes to come. Challenge it now! I have experienced scripture. Take my words and ask yourself to prove them to you now. Then let him unfold within you, and when he does, this world will lose its value to you. You will wonder what the fighting is all about. Why should anyone fight over shadows?564 ¶35

Don’t criticise anyone. If those who have a billion want two – so that they can be the richest dummy in the grave – pray for them by asking the only being who can grant your prayer, and that being is your own wonderful human imagination.564 ¶36

Don’t struggle doing it. Ask yourself who is hearing the good news you just heard and you will answer: “I am.” That’s God. That’s the being who heard the request. Now grant it and let it happen. God heard it when you heard it because God is your own wonderful I Amness, and remember: all that you ask in your Father’s name he will grant you and your Father’s name is I AM. Now let us go into the silence.564 ¶37

The Sphere Within

E ntering this world of death, you brought all you have (or can have) with you. You are like a garden, already planted and sowed, for this world is too poor to produce one seed. Although William Blake was called a madman, he knew this great truth, and said: “The Human Imagination is the Eternal Body of the Lord Jesus.” I tell you: the Lord Jesus is your own wonderful human imagination, who became as you are that you may become as he is. Everything is housed in you, because Jesus is buried there, and it is from there that he will rise.563 ¶1

You might think Paul was speaking of one external to himself, when he said: “I have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus,” but Paul was not. The preposition “in” designates Christ as the sphere within which faith lives, rather than an object of faith. So, if everything is within you, you may question why you are in this world of sadness, death, and sorrow; but I will tell you: you are here for a purpose.563 ¶2

In this world a king can bestow a high honour to anyone, but he cannot fit that one for the high office. Now, God not only bestows his honour, but he prepares the individual to receive it. You are here because you are being prepared. We are all part of the corporate destiny of a fabulous play, whose outcome is an entirely different world. In fact, this high honour cannot be conceived of until experienced. When you have been prepared, you will be automatically drawn like a magnet into that sphere where your faith lives. Then all that is now contained within you will awaken; and the highest honour will be yours, with the revelation that God gave himself to you, as you.563 ¶3

I tell you now: God became as you are, with all of your weaknesses and limitations; and God is going through the horrors of this world with you until you are prepared to receive the high honour, as the story of Jesus Christ (which has already been sown within you) erupts like a garden already planted, and you discover you are God.563 ¶4

Everyone will enter this sphere and know this revelation, but we all have different parts to play in that body. The part you will play has already been written and you were chosen to play it before that the world was. That part to which you have been cast must be prepared to receive your eternal form.563 ¶5

Some schools of thought will tell you that you were born blind because of karma; but I say to you: you were born blind, deaf, limited, weak, or poor – not because your parents sinned, or you sinned, but that the works of God may be made manifest. You cast yourself into the role you are now playing in order to prepare yourself to receive the high honour in the eternal body of the human imagination, which is God himself.563 ¶6

Scripture tells us God is love and God is life. If God is your life and he is love, then your life is love. In fact everything that loves is eternal.563 ¶7

The moment a woman brings a child into the world, she is in love with her production and – if need be – will sacrifice herself for it. That woman, by her expression of love, is eternal. The man who expresses love for his child is eternal, also because God is love and love is man’s life. Our scientists tell us that man alone is capable of love, but not the animal or plant world; yet I say anything that loves is eternal.563 ¶8

One day, while walking on the beach in little Barbados with my wife and daughter, we watched as two little boys, walking with their governess, turned over a large rock to discover two beach crabs underneath. The larger one immediately ran three or four feet away, turned, and looked at us with piercing eyes. Then I said to the boys: “Be quiet and watch,” and as we did, the crab returned, quickly grabbed the little one who had remained, pressed it to its breast, and ran away to hide once more. Now, wasn’t that a demonstration of love? God made everything in love. Never would he have made it had he not loved it. The little crab was made by love. I saw it express love, therefore the crab is eternal.563 ¶9

Man has been trained to believe in Jesus Christ as an external being, an object of his faith; but Jesus Christ is not the object of faith, but the sphere within which faith lives!563 ¶10

One day in 1959, having been prepared because of the parts I have played throughout my long journey, I was magnetically drawn into that sphere. Then that which was already planted within me, erupted, and the drama of Jesus Christ unfolded, casting me in the central role as the being who gave himself for me. He had to prepare himself – as the being you call Neville – by suffering with me until the work he set out to do in me was finished. Then the honour was conferred, at which time everything said of Jesus Christ unfolded itself within me.563 ¶11

I know this is true of every child born of woman; but it is difficult to convince those who do not wish to stand upon their own feet. Perhaps they cannot at the moment. They still may have to go through the mill by suffering, while the one who bestows the honor upon them suffers with them. The king of this world does not suffer with those to whom he bestows honour; but God, in bestowing the honour, requires you to receive it in order to execute your part in the corporate body of God.563 ¶12

The part you are now playing is played for a purpose. If your child is mentally deficient, don’t think you are its cause, for you are not. You did nothing wrong. Your child is being prepared to receive this great honour. This is simply a part he must play; and when every part has been played, he will be as perfect as his heavenly Father is perfect. Then the honor which was originally bestowed upon him erupts, and he discovers he is God himself – for in the end there is nothing but God.563 ¶13

When Blake made that statement, he was called mad; but I tell you there are states in which the visionary is considered mad for experiencing that which others have not. I have experienced that which you have not, yet I know you will. What part you will play in the body of God, I do not know; I only know that the part was created before that the world was, and it is perfect.563 ¶14

Now, in the Book of Joshua we are told that the land given to Israel was distributed by lot. This does not mean a piece of land, but the part you were allotted. The twelve tribes of Israel were cast into the lots. In the story we discover that Caleb was given a portion of the tribe of Judah, the same Judah as is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus as the one through whom the drama unfolds. The word “Caleb” is defined as “a dog,” but its spiritual definition is “a homosexual.” Now we see that Caleb – the fourth son of Jacob – is a part of the eternal play of God. This we are told in the 15th chapter, the 13th verse of the Book of Joshua, as God justifies everything he has made.563 ¶15

When people sit in judgement, it is because they haven’t the slightest concept of scripture, and do not realise what is taking place in the soul of man. Nothing is to be condemned, for God would not have made it had he not loved it, for God is love – this I know from experience. I stood in the presence of Infinite, Eternal Love, who embraced me and incorporated me into his body. At that moment I became one with the body of love, so I know God is love.563 ¶16

I also know that any one or any thing that loves is eternal, because love is God and God – who is eternal and infinite – made everything because he loved it; therefore it too is eternal.563 ¶17

This world is too poor to produce one seed, so we enter it like a garden already planted and sown. We bring everything that we have or ever will have with us. The part of the mathematician is there for you to play, even though you may not be cast in that role at the present time. The part of the mystic is there for you also. You may condemn a part, but it is within you. It may lie dormant because you are cut out for another part; but you will play your allotted part perfectly, and in the end become one with the one corporate body of the Risen Lord.563 ¶18

What part you will play in this body I do not know. I can only tell you we fell from the kingdom of heaven and we are rising back into that unity. I know, for I rose like the son of man and re-entered that kingdom. It is there I will reside when I drop this body. And you will be there also, when you drop your physical body for the last time. Then we will be brothers in love. So, “Go to my brothers and tell them I am ascending unto my Father and your Father, unto my God and your God,” for we are all brothers in the kingdom of heaven, all united to form the one and only God.563 ¶19

Tonight you may be playing a small part; but let me assure you, you are in the part you play because Jesus is in you. He is your breath of life, your awareness of being. An idiot may not know where he is, what he is, or who he is; but he is aware because Jesus Christ is in him.563 ¶20

Now, in the 11th chapter of the Book of Revelation, John speaks of the Lord and his Christ. The word “Christ” means “the anointed,” who is David (as told us in the Book of Samuel and the 89th Psalm). David, called the firstborn from the dead, is anointed with the holy oil. That David is he who appears as a result of your being prepared to receive the highest honor – which is God himself.563 ¶21

Man made Saul their king; but God rejected Saul and made David higher than the kings of the earth, proclaiming he was his son. So, when you see David, you will see your son and know exactly who you are. And you will also know that everyone – even those you formerly disliked – is destined to see your son; and—because there is only one son, begotten by one Father – you, and he who you formerly disliked, are one. No one can be a stranger, for no one is another. Everyone is coming towards the point where he knows he is God the Father.563 ¶22

You came into this world, not as a poor little child, but as God desiring to play that part. I was born into a family of ten who had no money, no social or intellectual background. During that time there were two people in Barbados who foretold the future. When I was about four years old one gentleman known as the prophet Gordon told my two eldest brothers that one would become a successful businessman and the other a doctor, which they did. Then he added: “Don’t touch the fourth one, for he belongs to God. He has come to fulfill God’s word,” and that is what I have done.563 ¶23

Then, when I was about nine, a lady said she saw my destiny in a vision. Everyone has a pattern to fulfill. You may not know what your pattern will be, and that is right; for if you knew what you were destined to do, at a certain point in time you might hesitate to follow that path; so it is hidden from you that you may be conditioned to receive the high honour, which is God himself.563 ¶24

Man finds it difficult to believe he is so destined, and thinks the idea is blasphemy. I have heard men who have achieved high titles in their churches, say from the pulpit that those who believe God is in them are insane; and I wondered how they could make such a statement, for they knew nothing. When it happened in me, I was drawn into the sphere where a spiritual experience is revealed; and as the plan unfolded and God revealed himself to me as me, I saw those men still in the same state of mind and realised scripture was right in describing them as the blind leading the blind.563 ¶25

Wearing their robes made by the human hand, they think that is the way God dresses – when God is clothed in love. The colours of their robes are lovely and they are made quite beautifully; but their robes do not endear them to God, for God does not see the outer robes – he only sees the man’s heart. And when that heart has been prepared, then the individual is drawn into the sphere of spiritual experience where faith lives. It is from there that he returns, knowing the faith of which scripture speaks.563 ¶26

When I returned from the vision of being incorporated into the body of love, if the worldly wise men had forced me – like they did Galileo – I, too, would deny it, yet knowing I am right and they are stupid. Today we know that the earth goes around the sun, but when Galileo lived the pope and cardinals compelled him to confess publicly that he was wrong and they were right. Now we know they were wrong and he was right; but they still go blindly on making others confess concerning their wisdom; and they haven’t any, for they are men without vision, as they haven’t experienced the word of God.563 ¶27

If this night I were put under physical pressure I, too, would confess that my experiences were hallucinations; but in my heart I would know that my visions were real. I could no more deny them than I can the simplest evidence of my senses. What I am seeing now as an objective fact that I cannot deny, will become a memory image an hour from now. I have experienced everything said of Jesus Christ just as objectively as I see you and this room, and I know that everyone is going to have the same experiences when he is prepared to receive them.563 ¶28

In our land, I recall hearing an interview with a man who had just been appointed an ambassador. When asked about the place where he was going, he admitted he didn’t even know where it was on the map, or anything about the government there. He received the appointment because of his generous contributions to the presidential campaign, not because of his fitness for the position.563 ¶29

But before God gives you the honour, he qualifies you to receive it by putting you through the paces. In the first chapter of the Book of Colossians, we read: “The Father has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.” The phrase “to share in” literally means, “for the part.” Here we see that the part has already been prepared, and now we must be qualified for the part each one of us will play in our inheritance.563 ¶30

The words “to share in,” causes one to think in terms of material goods; but if you actually share in God’s inheritance, you share in the part of being God, for he is your inheritance, and God is all. You can recreate anything, when you know you are the creative power and the creative wisdom of God. That is the gift God is preparing us all to receive!563 ¶31

I can’t tell you how altogether glorious you really are. If you would dwell upon this thought alone, you would stop feeling inferior in any way. No matter where you were born or what you are doing today, if you will walk aware that God selected you for an eternal part in the new body he is building out of living stones, you will never feel small again.563 ¶32

Dwell upon that wonderful hope. Know that God is preparing you for the part you will play in his living body, and that he will not stop no matter what you may go through. If you know this you will say with Paul: “I do not consider the sufferings of this present time worthy to be compared to the glory that is to be revealed in me, for that glory is God himself.”563 ¶33

If suffering be your lot, then suffer knowing the glory that is to be yours when the fires of experience are over. You may not suffer physically, but to lose a loved one is a suffering that can eat your heart out; but that suffering is preparing you to receive the glory that God has predetermined for you.563 ¶34

Tonight my message may not seem to be practical, but may I tell you it is the most practical talk I can give. I could tell you how to go about getting a better job, more money, larger houses, and better cars; but do you know: that which is most profoundly spiritual is, in truth, most directly practical; for while your mind is removed from your desires of this world by dwelling on something far greater, things are moving within you.563 ¶35

Then, one day, you will give your entire heart to a far more noble state, and you will be drawn into the sphere where scripture unfolds from within. It comes so suddenly, as you are not aware that you have moved into that sphere where the eruption takes place. It takes time to prepare you for that sphere, but when you are there you know nothing but the power of God. You feel him as an unearthly wind. You hear him in its unearthly sound as scripture erupts and you experience everything – from your birth from above, to the descent of the dove.563 ¶36

I promise you, if this experience is not yours in the not distant future, you will know it in the state the world calls the grave, for there is no death. You were created by the living God, and because you have loved – even if only for a fleeting moment – you are an eternal being, for God is love.563 ¶37

You will be restored to life in a world just like this one, to go through the paces. Then, one day, you will remember having heard a madman tell you of a sphere into which you would be drawn. You will move into that sphere, and scripture will erupt within you. Then you will know that no one in the new generation differs from those in the old, but that all ages are equal.563 ¶38

Today we haven’t turned out any Shakespeares, Raphaels, Beethovens or Bachs; but many books are written, canvases are filled, and songs are sung on the guitars and the banjos. So you see – all ages are equal and not one age differs from the other.563 ¶39

We are in a world of educated darkness, where each individual is being prepared to receive God’s gift. That gift is not a castle on the Rhine, or a kingdom in this world, but God Himself. When God gives himself to you – and God is all – you receive all.563 ¶40

You brought all that you have (and can have) with you when you entered this world. You came in just like a garden already planted and sown, for the world in which we live is too poor to produce one seed, because your reality is Jesus, who is your own wonderful human imagination. His body contains everything in eternity, while this world only objectifies what is within your human imagination. Now let us go into the silence.563 ¶41

Feel Deeply

What you feel deeply is far more important than what you are thinking. You may think about doing something for a long time and never do it, but when you feel something deeply you are spurred to act – and God acts! He who is the cause of all life acts through the sense of feeling. You can think of a thousand things, yet not be moved to act upon one of them. A deep conviction – felt, is far more important than anything you could ever think.562 ¶1

Let us turn to the first chapter of the epistle of James. “Ask in faith with no doubting, for he who doubts is like the wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. Let not that person believe that a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways, shall receive anything from the Lord. But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourself. For if you are a hearer only and not a doer, you are like a man who observes his natural face in the mirror and then goes his way, forgetting what he is like. But if you are a doer of the word and not just a forgetful hearer, you will look into the perfect law of liberty, and persevere. That man shall be blessed in all his doings.”562 ¶2

How do you go about being a doer in place of a hearer only? By acting in faith. Scripture’s central character, called Jesus, set no limit upon the love of God and the power of faith. In fact all of his great deeds were prefaced with the words: “According to your faith.” Now, faith encompasses feeling. If you have faith you will act, and if you act God in you is acting, for God is your own wonderful human imagination whose eternal name is I AM. He acts only when you feel it.562 ¶3

This is true even in the most practical way. If I tell you what I would like to be and you tell me to go my way, as I am already it – and for one fleeting moment I see the world as I would see it if it were true, then turn and walk away, forgetting what the world looked like only a moment before – I am a forgetful hearer. But if I am a doer of the word and not a hearer only, I persevere; or – as the word is translated in the King James Version – I “continue in” the state, for all things are possible to the power of the word.562 ¶4

Look in a mirror and you will see your face reflected there, but you have another mirror which you can look into. That is the mirror of your friends; if they heard your good news, their faces would reflect it, would they not? Assume your desire is now a fact. Feel its substance and reality. Then let your friends see you in that state. They are your living mirror.562 ¶5

Now persevere in that state and do not turn away and quickly forget what you are like. Walk through this door tonight in the assumption that you are the man (or woman) you want to be. It doesn’t make any difference if the outside denies it; you have seen the expression on the faces of your friends and heard their congratulations on the inside, with faith.562 ¶6

Now, carry this feeling into the deep and persevere. Conjure a living mirror of friends and acquaintances who have heard your good news and accepted it as permanent. See your face reflected in theirs. If they love you, you will see empathy. They will be rejoicing because of your good fortune. Now, persevere in that awareness and do not forget what you have seen in your living mirror. If you do, you will be blessed in the doing, as you are told in the first chapter of the Book of Psalms: “Blessed is the man who delights in the law of the Lord; the perfect law of liberty, for in all that he does, he prospers.”562 ¶7

Were you not liberated from your past when you saw your friend’s faces reflecting what you wanted them to see? If you had left the state of poverty, sickness, or weakness behind and moved into the state of wealth, health, or strength – and your friends knew it – you would be set free from your former limitation. So, looking into the perfect law of liberty and persevering, you are blessed in all that you do.562 ¶8

I tell you from personal experience that this works, but we are the operant power. It does not operate itself. You may have heard this law by the hearing of the ear and read of it in a book, but do you know that the law works from experience? Have you put it to the test? Have you proved it? If you have, then you can speak with an authority, which was not yours prior to the proving. May I tell you: through the use of this law you are completely set free.562 ¶9

I have been in many places where I was forced to test this principle. While on the little island of Barbados, which had only two small ships servicing it as well as the hundreds of islands nearby, I made a commitment to give a series of lectures in Milwaukee on the first of May. When I called, the shipping agent informed me that due to the fact that the ship sailing out of New York City carried only sixty passengers and the one from Boston carried only one hundred, that there was no passage available before the first of September. He promised to put my name on the waiting list, but gave me no encouragement as the list was very long.562 ¶10

I hung up the phone and sat in my chair in the hotel room, closed my eyes and assumed I was aboard a ship heading toward New York City. I assumed eight or ten of my family were coming aboard with me, and that my brother Victor was carrying my little girl. I could feel the motion of the plank. Having no stateroom committed, I remained on deck and placed my mental hands on the rail and felt the salt of the sea there. Then I looked back nostalgically at the little island. I repeated that action over and over again, feeling every step I made on that gangplank. I felt the rail and smelled the salt of the sea. I did everything that feeling could be brought to bear upon, and when my actions seemed natural, I broke it.562 ¶11

The very next day I received confirmation that I would be sailing on a ship which would land in New York City one week before my commitment in Milwaukee, which I did. When I asked the agent how I obtained the tickets, he said they had a cancellation in New York and the one person he had called on the waiting list felt that the timing was inconvenient; so – knowing he could accommodate my wife, our little daughter and myself in one cabin – he let us in. I never heard why someone canceled in New York or why the one he called in Barbados could not take the ship at that time, or why the agent did not call all the others on the waiting list. I only know that I got the reservation I had imagined.562 ¶12

I have told this story before, and someone in the audience once said; “Was that a Christian thing to do? You might have caused someone to cancel their trip.” But I tell you, as I told her: it was the only Christian thing to do, for I used the Christian principle of fulfilling God’s law. How it is going to be fulfilled is not my concern. I am told that whatever I desire, if I will but believe I have received it, I will. God never creates a desire in the human heart that he has not already provided its satisfaction. This is true of every desire in this world, as well as the greatest of all desires, which is the thirst for God.562 ¶13

Do you really want an experience of God? Apply this principle towards it. Do what I did when I wanted to leave Barbados and come to America. I looked into the perfect law of liberty and persevered. God doesn’t give you one law for your desires of this world and another law for your search for him. It’s the same law.562 ¶14

If you have had the experience of which I speak, would you tell someone about it? Is it a consuming desire, or do you want something other than that first? Perhaps you want a lovely home, security in the sense of money in the bank that you can touch, or stocks and bonds that pay dividends. If you want to feel wealthy, travel, and have lots of things before you thirst for an experience of Christ, it is secondary, so don’t try it. But if an experience of Christ is your consuming desire then don’t hesitate to put it to the test. Put first things first. If your first desire is to be recognised in the work that I am doing, then apply this principle towards it and let that thirst for God take its own good time to envelop you, and when it does, apply this principle towards it.562 ¶15

Feel in depth, for what you feel deeply is more vital than what you think. Every day you can think about how wonderful it would be if – and never act. But if every day you would feel how wonderful it is now, it will become true. Shakespeare said: “Assume a virtue if you have it not.” A virtue must be felt to be assumed. Refrain from the assumption tonight and it will be easy to refrain next week and still easier the next. But if you will assume your desire is fulfilled now, and persevere in that assumption through the sense of feeling, it will be externalised as a literal fact in your world.562 ¶16

I am calling upon everyone to put this into practice. Every desire contains its own satisfaction to be fed upon. It’s entirely up to you. You may feed your hunger by thinking of your desire, or feed its satisfaction by thinking from its fulfillment. It is God who gives you every desire, be it for things of this age or the age to come – as told us in the Book of Amos: “I will send a famine upon the world. It will not be a hunger for bread or a thirst for water, but for the hearing of the word of God.”562 ¶17

When you want to speak the word of God, your hunger is not for the hearing of the word, but for the glamour connected with the teaching. It is the spotlight you desire and that too has been provided for. Every desire can and will be satisfied if you will look into the law of liberty and persevere. Then you will be blessed in all you do.562 ¶18

A chap came to see me from New York City yesterday. When I heard his request I would not tell him my reaction to it, but that I would hear that he had it. This chap, now retired from the antique department of Macy’s, has been teaching in one of these isms back East. Then he started corresponding with a group out here, who – unable to believe in themselves – wants a leader; so they have asked him to come lead them. When he told me the nature of his desire I was sorry that all he could see in life was the spotlight, but I granted it to him.562 ¶19

He is tired of playing third, fourth or fifth fiddle to a leader who has milked a million dollars out of those who are buying bricks into heaven. Having nothing, this man’s followers are building heaven for him and giving it to him as their gift. They have bought valuable land in New York City and built a building on it. Then he threw a banquet at a large hotel and they paid $50 for the privilege of seeing the mortgage they paid for burned, but the land and building are in his name. Back in 1943, this same man told me he was coming to New York for only one purpose and that was to make money in the so-called New Thought movement. When I heard him say this, I thought he was in the wrong profession. If he wanted to make a lot of money he should go into steel, oil, or coal. If you want to do this work you can live well, but will not have the ambition for millions. Well, he wanted lots of money and now he has it, as well as homes in the country, an apartment in the city, and a lovely, large building in New York City – which those who love to be milked paid for.562 ¶20

The chap who came to see me assisted this man. He has seen how phony it has been, but he hasn’t completely overcome it. He still wants the spotlight and now he has the opportunity to get it. I will pray for his success – not as a teacher, for he is not one – but for the glamour he will receive by those who want the nonsense, as they are going to start off by not eating meat, smoking, or drinking – in fact a complete loss of the palate. His request does not offend my moral code, so I can easily say that he is successful; but I urge you who are sincere to try to create within yourself a longing for the deepest of all desires, and that is to know God from experience.562 ¶21

If you can really thirst for God above everything else, then use the same law of liberty. Look into the faces of your friends and say with deep conviction and feeling: “I have had the experiences of which Neville speaks. The entire series, from the resurrection through the descent of the dove, has unfolded within me.” Then persevere, for God has provided a satisfaction for that hunger and you will know it. But if this hunger is not yet upon you and you sincerely want a better way of living that is not wrong, simply use the same principle of the perfect law of liberty and persevere. Having acted, don’t turn and forget what you have done but sleep in that conviction, and in a way you do not know, it will be yours.562 ¶22

Tonight many of our friends are not here because it is Memorial Day. But I tell you: not one moment in time is holier than another and there is no earthly place more sacred than the other. Wherever you stand is sacred ground because you are there. Today millions are celebrating Memorial Day, remembering the dead and placing flowers on a grave their loved ones do not occupy.562 ¶23

This morning just prior to waking, I saw my brother Lawrence. He died at the age of sixty-two, but looked much older because he had suffered so much before his departure. This morning he was only about twenty-three years of age. We were both fully awake and he asked me to tell his wife that the money he left her was for her, and not to save it for the children. I said: “Lawrence, you don’t have to go through me to tell Doris, she wouldn’t give one penny to anyone anyway. She never has. Do you think she would change now? Her only concern is that you did not give it all to her, but shared equally with your four children.”562 ¶24

But I was with Lawrence. He was strong, strapping and handsome, blond with brown eyes. He is the same Lawrence, with the same intelligence he had when he left here. He is younger now, but he still has the memory of the family he left behind. The veil is no clearer to him there than it is to those on this side. Only one who is awake can penetrate the veil consciously. It is easy now for me to go beyond the world of dream and enter the world of spirit waking and meet my friends there. But on Memorial Day men think of the dead, while I am speaking of life everlasting. “Let the dead bury the dead,” and follow me, for I have risen from the dead and I speak of a Living God who is real. I cannot go to a cemetery and put flowers or a flag on that which is not there. The body may have been placed there, but not the spirit.562 ¶25

You are buried in the skull and in that skull you will remain, dreaming your dream of life until you awaken and are born the second time. It is from there you are going to find David, who reveals you as God the Father. It is from there you are going to be split in two and ascend into the Holy of Holies. You were begotten in that skull and you will end the drama there, to know you are one with the one and only Living God.562 ¶26

In the 25th and 27th chapters of the Book of Genesis, the story is told of Isaac, who had two sons. The first son, Esau, had hair all over while the second son, Jacob, was hairless. Being blind, Isaac calls Esau and asks him to go get some venison for dinner. Jacob, having overheard the request, clothed himself in the skins of his brother Esau and took the venison to his father. Isaac, hearing Jacob’s voice began to doubt, until he felt his reality and caught his odor. Satisfying himself that the son was real, Jacob was given the father’s blessing. When Esau returned from the hunt, Jacob disappeared, but Isaac said: “Although your brother came through deception, I have given him your blessing and I cannot take it back.”562 ¶27

After smothering yourself in feeling, you have sent it on its way and cannot take it back, for prayer is nothing more than the subjective appropriation of an objective hope. Imagine by giving objective reality to your hope. Hair is the most objective thing on a man. Bring your hope so close that you can feel what it would be like if it were objective to you. Clothe yourself in that feeling – and you have clothed yourself in the reality of an Esau. The world will not immediately reflect your feeling, but you have set your desire in motion and cannot take it back. You have given a subjective state your blessing by giving it objective reality. Now it must fulfill its destiny so that you will be blessed in all that you are doing.562 ¶28

If you don’t give your subjective hope objective reality, you can’t be blessed in its fulfillment. You must clothe yourself in the feeling that your wish is fulfilled. Jacob is your desire, waiting to be clothed in the feeling of external reality. Catch the feeling, and you have clothed Jacob with the external reality of Esau. Now deceive yourself into believing that your desire is externally real, and give it your blessing by subjectively appropriating your objective hope. Who is the blind Isaac? You are, for you cannot see what you are asking for in your outer world. It’s a hope and you are blind to it. But when you clothe yourself in the feeling of its fulfillment, you are eating the feeling of satisfaction. Feast upon this feeling morning, noon, and night, and in a way you do not know your desire will become an objective reality in your world.562 ¶29

In this story we see the importance of feeling. Isaac asked Jacob to come close and kiss him. The word translated “kiss” means, “to set on fire; to burn; to touch.” That’s an emotion, an intense feeling. Reality is felt through the sense of touch. Feeling is touch. Tasting is touch. Scripture tells us he tasted death for all of us. How do you taste death? By experiencing it. Jesus tasted death by dying in all, that all may know who he is.562 ¶30

Now I urge you to put his teaching into practice. He taught you to simply appropriate a subjective state which is your objective hope, and know it must externalise itself in your world. Do that and it will. Ask in faith, without a doubt, for those who doubt are like the wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. They are double-minded, for they know what they are while desiring to be something else. You must be single-minded by dropping what you believe you are and assuming that you are already what you desire to be, for you cannot desire something you already possess. Look into the wonderful law of liberty which sets you free, and you will see your freedom in the faces of your friends. Persist in your assumption and it must come to pass. Now let us go into the silence.562 ¶31

Revelation of the Word Within

In all the revelations that await us there is none so fundamental as the revelation of the Word within us. I can’t tell anyone the ecstasy, the joy that awaits them when they discover that “In the volume of the book it is all about me” . From Genesis to Revelation the whole vast book is about the individual in whom the Word is revealed. He is the interpreter of the book. And when he discovers that he was the one who was sent—he is the Word of God who cannot return empty but must accomplish that which God purposed, and prosper in the thing for which it was sent —the thrill that I am that Word! The thrill that I am the Word that became flesh, and now I am clad in a robe dipped in blood, this flesh and blood; and the name by which I shall be called is the Word of God, and that this “Word of God was in the beginning, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” . Then it dawns upon one that he is that Word sent for a divine purpose and the purpose was to fulfill the Word we call scripture! There is no other purpose for his being here; not to become rich, famous, known, strong, weak, only to fulfill the Word…the most fantastic play in the world.559 ¶1

Now he will fulfill it in a living way, for the Word in the written form is dead and the letter kills, but the Spirit makes alive. He is the living Word that comes to interpret the seeming dead letter. Then he makes that discovery that he is the Word, that the whole story of Jesus from his conception by the Holy Spirit to his ascension into heaven is a sign granted by God to those who will receive it. Formerly he thought of Jesus as someone external to himself; he thought of the Word of God as something completely external to himself. That the whole book was something that was dated, thousands of years ago, through men he referred to as the prophets, as the servants of a God that he did not know. And then comes the revelation. The revelation unfolds within him and he discovers that he is the Word, that the Jesus of scripture is himself, and he can say within himself, “I am Mary and birth to Christ must give, If I in blessedness now and evermore would live” . He brings forth himself. For he is the Word and “In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God” and he is that Word. He sees the entire book unfold within himself. But everything said of the “pattern man” he experiences in the first-person, present-tense. Now it is taking place within me and he knows it. All said of him I am experiencing, so it is said of me, “In the volume of the book it is written of me.” I can’t tell anyone the thrill, the ecstasy that is theirs when they make that discovery…the whole vast world changes.559 ¶2

You don’t care what anyone achieves in this world. You wish they could get all of their dreams in the world of Caesar. It doesn’t matter what they want, grant it. It doesn’t matter at all, it all fades into nothing. If they own the earth and enslave all, it still would be nothing. But the Word cannot return void. The Word did not come to own the earth but to fulfill scripture: “Scripture must be fulfilled in me.” And then, “Beginning with Moses and the law and all the prophets and the psalms, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself” …that this was written of me and this is what it means. For I tell you from experience this is how it happens.559 ¶3

So, we are the Word spoken by God, but remember, God himself is the Word. The author of the play plays the parts, for there is no one else to play it. He had to become the actors in the drama and they cannot return empty. They play it completely and perfectly. But what they’re really going to play…the final revelation…is when it unfolds within him and he is the Word. Whether he has unnumbered fortunes in the world, that is not important.559 ¶4

Today, when you see people so surprised and so shocked because of some so-called turning aside from an ethical code….and we take now one of our justices, why should we be shocked? What man walking the earth could cast a stone? What man that’s ever walked this earth could say he was innocent of a similar deed? Because, we are told in scripture, to want it without having the courage to do it was to have done it anyway. “For you’ve heard it said, ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that anyone who lusts after a woman has already committed the act in his heart with her” . So it’s a psychological drama. What man is innocent of that lust? What man is innocent of the lust for personal gain? Why should we be shocked and offended when we see injustice and all these things in high places?559 ¶5

Do we not have all of our officials…and they have very good reason for it…for by example of those above them they are encouraged to use their vocation for personal gain. Everyone this night is on the roster of a great agency to go out and earn a fortune giving lectures. They don’t have to know their subject at all. All they need do is publicize themselves. If they can get publicized they can get a fortune, because everyone wants to know the one who is known in the world of Caesar. Out they come to see and to touch and to hear one.559 ¶6

In 1941 when I brought out my first book, Harper Brothers sent me over to a place called Peakings…and they said to me, Mr. Peakings himself—he’s gone now, he was the oldest agent in the country for speakers; he had Mrs. Roosevelt on the list, he had Churchill on the list, he had them all on his list. He gave me a very nice wonderful interview because I came from Harpers Bros. They said they couldn’t handle my books unless I got promotion and I was completely unknown…to that I admitted. Mr. Peakings was a sweet, lovely gentleman, mature in years. In those days I was a young man and he was a very, very elderly gentleman and very gracious. He said to me, “Neville, you’re completely unknown. If you could go out and shoot someone and get off and get publicized, I could sell you night after night for hundreds and hundreds of dollars to all kinds of clubs. They love to meet the one who shot someone and who got off. I could sell Mrs. Roosevelt tomorrow…I sell her every week at $1,200 a lecture. I could sell her with any subject at all. She’s the mother of many children. I could sell her if her subject was ‘What it feels like never to have known a man.’ If that was her subject it would make no difference…it is Mrs. Roosevelt they’re coming to hear. And so, go out and do something that is ghastly and get out of jail, try to avoid being sentenced, and come back and I can sell you across the country…because I can only sell names.”559 ¶7

Now today, someone gets up in Congress and they make the most outrageous statement that could be carried tonight on radio, TV and tomorrow’s press. As they build up that name, then he gets more money for them, and off they go. Because they are encouraged by example by those above them to make what gain they can from their vocation. They all do it and stand aghast at one person in what he did.559 ¶8

But that’s not the play. That belongs here. It goes on over and over and over, and all are guilty…but everyone is guilty. But the play, the real play is the sacred play. It’s written in scripture. It’s a sealed book. Only when the Word unveils itself within man does it become alive and then that which was a dead word begins to unfold within man in a series of experiences. He is not observing them taking place on the outside…not another is born from some so-called virgin. There was no such thing as any physical virgin birth. The birth is from above. You must be born from above and you are born out of your own wonderful skull; and because that hides you that is the Mary of scripture. That is the Jerusalem from above. That is the holy mother. I am Mary and birth to God—I cannot any longer say “must give,” I gave. And now forever in blessedness I will continue, and share it with those who have not yet brought him forth. But the Word cannot return empty, it has to fulfill this pattern…it’s a pattern. Jesus is only the pattern man and that pattern no one is going to change. It starts with the resurrection…when the Word erupts within man and he is the Word, which is God himself. Because who awakes?—I awake. Well, who is rising?—I am; that’s God. Now who is coming out?—I am; that’s God. Who witnesses all these things around him, the three who witness the sign of the child?—I am witnessing them and that’s God. And here, the whole Word becomes a witness to the truth of scripture, which no one prior to the awakening of the Word ever understood.559 ¶9

So, “In the fullness of time, he sent forth his Son into the hearts of man, crying, “Father!” . Well, did that happen? Yes, in the fullness of time…and I looked and here he is calling me “Father.” Well, who is his Father?—God. He’s calling you “Father”? Yes. But you’re a little man. In your mortal eyes yes a little man. But when this little garment which I purposely assumed for my purpose unknown to mortal man is taken off, then you would not have eyes to see me. You see me as long as I wear this robe dipped in blood, and you do not even know my name is the Word of God. But the Word of God was sent forth from the mouth of God: he only sent himself. So “He who sees me sees him who sent me.” I came to do the will of him who sent me, and my Father’s will is to fulfill scripture. In the end, I will say, “Father, I have accomplished the work which thou gavest me to do. Now return unto me the glory that was mine, the glory that I had with thee before that the world was” .559 ¶10

I ask for no other than to return what I emptied myself of when I and you were one, and there was no one to go but yourself, and you sent me. Your Word could not return to you void. It had to bring back that for which it had been purposed; and so, I have returned and I have finished the work that thou gavest me to do. Now glorify me with thyself! For the self is mine, the very self that was mine before that the world was. And so I return to my own being who is God. For, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”559 ¶11

So you come out and you are the Word. But the Word has not yet reached the fullness of time to be erupted. In all the revelation that you could ever experience, there is none more fundamental than the unveiling of the Word in you…when you know you are the Word. Then, because the external Word is called the Bible, and you read it in the 40th Psalm, you come upon the words, “In the volume of the book it is written of me” . The thrill that comes to man when he discovers that this whole vast book that the world calls, and rightly so, a sacred Word, the Word of God, and you were taught to believe it was all about ancient history and it’s contemporary…it’s all about me! Here, now I must unfold within myself this living Word that interprets the written Word. For the Word was dead until the living Word could give meaning to it. So he gives meaning to it by actually unfolding it within himself. He comes back awakened to the truth of God’s Word. He doesn’t change it, he doesn’t in any way add to it or take from it. He simply fulfills it. He fulfills it within himself. Everyone who hears him either accepts it on faith or they don’t. As far as he is concerned he hopes they will accept it, but he has to go on anyway.559 ¶12

There are always those called “the remnant” who are now near the point that they can accept it…always the remnant. “So don’t be concerned,” said he, “Go back, Elijah, I have saved a remnant. There are 7,000 in that city from which you run, and you tell me there are no more waiting? You go back. I have 7,000 waiting who are ready to hear what you can tell them.”559 ¶13

So there will always be a circle who are at the point of breaking through with the seed within man, the Word of God, erupting. As it erupts, the very first of the events is resurrection, and that’s the cornerstone of the entire mystery. The sleeper awakes. Well, who is the sleeper?—God. “Rouse thyself1 Why sleepest thou, O Lord?” . And so, the Lord awakes. Well, what is his name?—I am. Well, who at that moment when it happened to you, who did you feel awakening? I felt myself…I am the one who awoke to find myself completely alone, because God is one. There is no other…it was God who awoke. And then who came out? Well, the same being who awoke, and so I came out. When I came out what did I see? I saw what scripture, the Word of God, told me I would see: I will see witnesses to the event. But they could not see me for I was Spirit and they saw only the sign. The whole vast world has taken the sign for the event. The sign is not the event…it signifies something that actually took place. What took place?—God is born.559 ¶14

God was returning now to himself. He came into the world to fulfill his Word, and now he’s departing from the world. To depart from the world he has to be born from above. If he’s not born from above he has to remain in the world until he fulfills the Word. He cannot go back. Go back where? To his heavenly state which is the kingdom of God. Well, what constitutes the kingdom of God? The Father and the brotherhood of men…all the brothers together form the Father. So, that is the kingdom of God, and so he is returning now, leaving behind him his record. He asks no one on earth to judge him, for no one is capable of judging him, he knows he only has one. So when he returns, is he truly a witness? Here is the book that is a witness. Well now, you the living one, can you testify to it as it states? Because when two come together and they agree in testimony then it is conclusive.559 ¶15

So read the book. Well now, I experienced this. And I can’t fool the watchers from above…for they see not the outer man and hear his words; they see the inner man, and they know if he bears the marks of Jesus or not. Does he bear the marks? Does he carry within himself these experiences as told in scripture? If he does, he’s a witness. So bring the witnesses. Here comes the eternal Word of God, the Bible. Now bring the one that made it alive within himself. Does he testify to that and do they agree in testimony? Do they agree? Well then, enter into the kingdom, into the joy of the Lord!559 ¶16

So he enters in, in that manner, and there’s no other way of entering, other than first to be resurrected which is God’s mightiest act. Then, to be born from above. Then, to discover the Fatherhood of God by having his Son call you “Father.” And then, to have the curtain of the temple, which is your own body, split in two from top to bottom and you like a serpent, in fulfillment of Exodus, rising into heaven like a fiery serpent. Then, to have the seal of approval placed upon you in the form of the descending of the dove that smothers you with love. Then, all the other passages of scripture in the interval are taking place within you night after night. Every part of the Word of God unfolds within you. And then you tell it…and having told it you depart the world.559 ¶17

You know that those who come to you could not come unless the Father within you, who is yourself, calls them. So they will come and they will hear your story, and they will be encouraged by this story. You will tell them that you will be born from above through the resurrection of yourself called in scripture Jesus Christ. So, “I am born anew,” said he, “through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” . Now he said, born to a hope, what is the hope? “Set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” .559 ¶18

For, this is the hope that makes it wisdom to accept the burden of this long dark night of time. For, here is really a night of terror…a night of terror. Who can say that this day the horrors didn’t take place in the world, murders, stealing? Not only violent murders…that’s bad enough…but when you take someone and you drive him through poverty into shame, into nothing, that’s a living death. You can cut his throat…that’s fair at least…but when you drive him into such an embarrassing state by underpaying him. And you don’t realize what you’re doing to yourself in the doing! For, you are sucking from him his blood. Those who live on blood are the little, well, the termites of the world, really, in a sense. When you think of the fleas that live on dogs which never produce anything themselves; they live on the blood of another. Blood in our language…money is the life blood of the world, and when you underpay a man for his services you are taking his blood.559 ¶19

If you could only see yourself as the awakened man sees you, you would be horrified if you saw what you looked like. You’d be horrified! All the perfumes of Arabia couldn’t stifle the odor that comes from you. You get before the mirror and you spend a fortune on all the things to beautify yourself, and you have all the beautiful clothes because you can afford it; but if you could only see what you really look like in the eyes of those who have eyes to see. You look like a huge, big, monstrous flea…just a flea, yet human but a flea. And you have no idea what a monstrous looking thing it is. Yet it comes out in the world and people are so proud to touch it, and because it’s well-known they’ll get $5,000 for speaking and telling all that it must tell. It gets everything because it’s now publicized in the world. Take off the mask and those who are paying to hear it would run for their lives if they only saw what it looked like.559 ¶20

So I tell you, we are here in this world of educated darkness until he who sent us, watches, and then one moment in time the Word which is himself erupts, and then he fulfills scripture. So leave them all alone. If they want to live on the blood of others, let them live on the blood of others. If they want to do all these things, let them do it. Have no criticism of them; you’ve done it too. You’ve all played these horrible parts. But here in this room, you aren’t playing these parts or you wouldn’t be here. You are drawn here because the one who is speaking to you has fulfilled scripture, and no one comes unto me save my Father calls him, and I and my Father are one .559 ¶21

So having fulfilled the external Word of God, because I am the living Word that he sent into the world to fulfill it, I now return bearing witness to his Word and I can say, as we’re told in the 17th of John, “I have accomplished the work which thou gavest me to do. Now return unto me the glory that was mine, the glory that I had with thee before that the world was.” That’s the only purpose for being here.559 ¶22

So let everyone…let him be. And if it comes within your code of decency, pray for him. He wants money, pray for him. If he wants happiness in this world, pray for it. It will be granted. If he wants to violate your code of decency like murdering someone, send him elsewhere. You would not accept his request, I know you wouldn’t, so let him go elsewhere. May I tell you, if he is so bent, he will. He’ll find someone who will take his money for praying for the demise of someone else, he will.559 ¶23

But you go about your Father’s business and set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the unveiling of the Word of God within you. For when the Word unfolds itself within you, well, I can’t tell you the thrill. You jump off that bed…you can hardly believe that you actually experienced it. You mean that all that was said of Jesus Christ is taking place in me? That this thing is not of the past, it’s contemporary? This is forever and forever, that he’s unfolding himself within me as my very self? Then one after the other happens and you discover it is. Everything he said in scripture you experience, not as an observer but as the central actor in the drama. So let the whole vast world say what they will concerning the mythology of scripture. All you can do is inwardly smile and let them go about their business. Let them go because they will eventually, after all the blows.559 ¶24

For, the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God. Let them become wiser and wiser in their own stupidity, perfectly all right. Let them feel themselves very prominent and very wonderful, perfectly all right. You don’t dethrone them, and you don’t join in their so-called self-adulation. Leave them alone, and set your hope fully upon this grace that is coming to you.559 ¶25

Then you will see that if blows come tonight, all right, I must have at some time in my blindness planted the seed. I must have, for “As a man sows, so shall he reap” . So sometime in the past long forgotten I planted it. I do not recognize my harvest because I do not remember the sowing, but it could not come up into my world had I not sown it. All right, so I will now reap it, and rejoice in the fact that at least it’s come for me to recognize, even in a little way.559 ¶26

Then, know the words of Paul, “I consider the sufferings of the present time not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed in us” . When that glory is revealed, it’s the Word unfolding and it all unfolds within us.559 ¶27

So I go through whatever is in store for me because of my misuse of the power that I am, for I am the power of God . I am not only the Word sent into being, I am the very power, carrying the pattern of redemption, and I am the instrument of God’s creation. Through me he created it all because I and God are one. And then he sends himself, which is the very being speaking to you…he sends him. So when you see me after the experiences, you see the one who sent me, for I am one with the one who sent me. Anyone who sees me sees him who sent me . And who is the sender?—my Father. And who is your Father?—the one you call God. Only I know my Father, he and I are one, and you know not your God.559 ¶28

But the joy when the book becomes your wonderful biography! Day after day you open that book to realize it was you who inspired the book when it was recorded by those who heard it or who had the vision. Many a time they speak of vision that came only through the audio state as in the opening of the Book of Obadiah, the Book of Amos, and the Book of Isaiah. They speak of having heard and speak of the vision: “I will tell of the vision of the Lord as the Lord spoke unto me.” So they take an audio and speak of it as a vision. It’s right in scripture. But when it happens to you, it’s not audio alone…the whole thing is just like this room, it’s all alive, it’s all real.559 ¶29

Then when that moment in time comes for you to depart this world, you leave it never to return again, never. Those who have not quite reached the point of eruption will find themselves on departure here restored to life in a world just like this, terrestrial and real with solid bodies just like this, with problems just like these, with everything that you have here, the identical world, only they are younger, much younger, usually around twenty. Regardless of what mature age they leave this world, they’re about twenty when they awake just beyond the veil. The veil is not out there; it’s right here. It’s so thin and just here…and yet to mortal eye it’s not transparent, it’s opaque. And because of different weights of vibration, they’re not touched, not seen by those who are here…any more than we are seen and touched by those who are there. There are worlds within worlds within worlds until the Word erupts in man.559 ¶30

So when you are told in the 19th chapter of Revelation that his robe is dipped in blood, don’t think of any red robe that the cardinal wears. Hasn’t a thing to do with the outside, your little garment of flesh and blood that’s the robe that you’re wearing. “And he made for them skins”…now it’s dipped in blood. For, you were Spirit before you came out and now you’re clothed in a robe dipped in blood. And the name by which he’s named and called is the Word of God…that’s you. That Word that was in the beginning that was with God and that was God, that’s you. That Word that became flesh and dwells within us, that’s you. That Word that went forth from the mouth of God that cannot return unto him empty but must accomplish that which he purposed and prosper in the thing for which he sent it, that Word is you. When you say “I am” that’s he, that’s God.559 ¶31

Now in this world, you, too, can use that Word on this level. You can assume that things are as you would like them to be, and persuade yourself that they are. You’ll find yourself carrying on little, tiny unheard conversations and these unheard little words within yourself persuading yourself that things are as you desire them to be, these are words too. That’s why Blake said, “What have I said? What have I done? O all-powerful human words!” . You have no idea what you are doing in the course of a day with these little internal mental conversations which you know no one outside hears. But may I tell you, they are responding to what inwardly you are saying, and you wonder why do they act as they do towards me? They have to because you inwardly are speaking words, too, and these internal conversations are carrying forward into the world, and the world responds in keeping with the word that you send out. You don’t have to bellow the word and you don’t have to utter it audibly at all.559 ¶32

But you can’t think without the use of words. You think anything and all of a sudden you find words clothing the thought. If you meet someone mentally and you will say, “Well, you look remarkably well,” you will think he looks remarkably well. But if you want to express it you could say “You look remarkably well.” Well now, believe that he does look remarkably well and you’ve sent your word. “I heard good news about you. I hear that things have gone up and up and up in your world. I hear that you’ve been making so much money that you don’t know what to do with it.” And, of course, he may even laugh in your mind’s eye. But feel the reality of the word that you uttered. Don’t say it will come in this manner or that manner or the other manner, you simply do it.559 ¶33

Then you will know the power of these words…because you are God. God became man clothed in these mortal garments of flesh and blood that man may become God. So when you see this disturbance in your world you might think, well, why did it happen to me? Because, in your idle moment you are not controlling your Imagination, and you are carrying on arguments with your children, with your parents, with your friends, from premises that are stupid because they need not be. If you know that all these things must come to pass, what are you doing? If you really believe that all these things are producing the results that they imply, well then, stop it. Stop it now and change the record…put on a new record.559 ¶34

But here, the day will come—I trust it isn’t far off, but no one knows the hour, no one—that this fundamental revelation of the unfolding of the Word within you comes to pass. When the whole book that we call the sacred Word of God, and it is, unfolds and you are the central character, you are the actor playing the center part. Then you will know who Jesus is.559 ¶35

Now let us go into the Silence. * * * Now are there any questions, please?559 ¶36

Well, he’s called Jesus in the beginning because his name shall be called Jesus as you are told in the Book of Luke . Again, in the Book of Matthew, it begins with the word alone “Jesus,” then eventually they tied on the name Christ, which simply means “Messiah,” which simply means the “Anointed One,” which was the title given to David. One has to discriminate between these two titles. It’s not like a man called John and his surname is Smith, John Smith, as some of these scholars believe. It’s a mystery. Every time you open that book you’re looking at a mystery and it’s the mystery of God, not some little mystery written by one of our great mystery writers. This is something that is a mystery. Paul uses the word mystery no less than twenty times. He speaks of the mystery hidden for the ages but now revealed in you as “Christ in you, the hope of glory” : it’s his image. But Jesus is God himself. Jesus and the word Jehovah are one. David in the Old Testament, the Lord God Jehovah called him “my son.” In the New Testament, if one understands how to read it, David in the Spirit called him “my Father.” So if he called Jesus “my Father,” as told you in the 20th chapter of the Book of Luke, when he asked the question…no one asked the question, he brought it up. He said, “What think ye of the Christ? Whose son is he? They answered, ‘The son of David.’ Then he replied, ‘Why then did David in the Spirit call him’—speaking now of another—‘my Lord’? If he thus calls him my Lord, how is he his son?” . He is calling him “my Father” in fulfillment of scripture, which is the 89th Psalm: “I have found David,” said Jehovah, “and he has cried unto me, ‘Thou art my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation” . So if I come to fulfill scripture and the only scripture you can fulfill is the Old Testament—for that was the only scripture when the eruption took place—he’s only fulfilling the Old Testament. So if in the Old Testament David calls the Lord “my Father” and in the 2nd Psalm, the Lord said, “I shall say unto you, ‘Thou art my son, today I begotten thee,’” then in the interval he finds him and calls him “Father.” Well then, if I have come to fulfill scripture and the only scripture is the Old Testament, then I must find David and he must call me Father…for the New is only the pattern that interprets the Old. I know it’s a shock. It would be to you to be told that the whole of the story of Jesus from the conception of the Holy Spirit to his ascension into heaven is a sign…a sign vouchsafed by God to all who will receive it. Will you believe it is a sign? It’s a plan, it’s a pattern, the pattern man, which everyone when the Word in him erupts follows that pattern. There’s no other entry into heaven save the unfolding of that pattern in man, because only Christ resurrects, only God resurrects…so the pattern unfolds in man. Good night.559 ¶38

The Artist Is God

God is the great artist, and there is no artistry so lovely as that which perfects itself in the making of its image. God has but one consuming objective and that is to make you into his image, that you may reflect and radiate his glory. On this level, however, God exists as the human imagination, for the human imagination is the divine body called the Lord Jesus. On the highest level God’s great artistry is concentrated on the making of his image; on this level he - as you - can do the same. A friend may say he would like to be a doctor; another friend wants to be a successful businessman, or a dancer. Every desire is an image. As the artist, lowered to this level, you can form images of your friends. And if you persist in your assumption, in time your friends will radiate and reflect your artistry.557 ¶1

God is the great dreamer in man, bound in a deadly dream until he forms the image called Christ, in himself. Only when Christ is formed in man will he awaken from his dream of life. Now, on this level you can be bound in a dream, too. Perhaps you would like to be a great artist. That is your dream, your image. How would you feel right now if you were? Can you believe your assumption is true even though your reason and senses deny it? Can you persist in your imagination, as the highest level of your being persists in his image?557 ¶2

We are told: “When you pray, believe you have received it and you will.” Prayer is not a lot of empty words, but imagination braced in feeling. Every Sunday people go to church, say the Lord’s Prayer, and come out of the building just the same as they were when they went in. Their words were empty, as no prayer was answered. Now they are going to stop praying to their demoted mythological saints, for that is all saints are. The 115th Psalm describes these so-called saints, and tells us that those who believe in them are just as stupid as those who make and sell them.557 ¶3

While here in this world, I asked myself how I would go about being the artist who could make myself into the image of a successful minister of the word of God. I knew I would have to start on the highest level by assuming I had finished what I was starting to do, and I knew I would have to remain faithful to that end, that image. This I have done.557 ¶4

The most creative thing in us is to believe a thing into objective existence. Can you believe that something is already objective to you, even though your mortal eyes cannot see it? Can you walk, drenched in the feeling that it is an objective fact, until it becomes so? That’s how everything is brought into being, for all things exist in the human imagination, who is God himself. Imagination is the divine body called Jesus, the Lord. If you are willing to step out, asking no one if it is right or wrong, and dare to walk in the assumption your image is true, it will come to pass.557 ¶5

Let me share with you a simple story. A very dear friend of mine who lives in New York City was born in Russia of a very poor Jewish family. He knew what it was like to be frightened when he heard the Cossacks were coming, for they burned homes and caused pain for the sheer joy of frightening people. Joseph was the eldest of a family of five, a boy not more than nine or ten when his mother died, leaving his father to maintain his family alone. Little Joseph found a job taking money from a store to the bank and having it changed into smaller denominations. He had never known what it was like to wear shoes, but wrapped his feet in newspapers or whatever he could find to keep them warm. His clothes had always come from charity, but he - like all men - brought his innate knowledge with him when he came into this world. So, one day, as he watched the cashier changing the money he brought, he noticed that the big copper coins, when rolled in paper, resembled the silver coins, even though their value was widely separated.557 ¶6

Then he said to himself: “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if he made a mistake?” and in his imagination Joseph took the money rolled through the window to him in the assumption that the mistake was already made. He then walked back to the shop, filled with the sense of joy. Reason told him no mistake was made, but he thought of all the things he could buy if he had the money. He would buy a pair of slacks, a pair of shoes, and eat until it came out of his ears - a thing he had never experienced before. He had the satisfaction of walking those many blocks in the mood of having what he wanted.557 ¶7

The next day, when Joseph returned to the same teller, the man made the mistake. As Joseph left the bank he wrestled with himself, but his poverty and embarrassment were greater than his ethical code; so he went to another bank and changed the money into the correct denominations and kept the overage. That night he bought himself a pair of slacks, new shoes, and ate at a restaurant until he could eat no more.557 ¶8

He told me that although he wrestled with his conscience all night, he could not justify his act; but he learned a lesson. He learned that Sir Anthony Eden was right when he said: “An assumption, though false, if persisted in will harden into fact.” Sir Anthony did not need position or money, but he knew a law which undoubtedly he used through his years.557 ¶9

Today my friend Joseph is a multi-millionaire. I am quite sure he is far, far richer in Caesar’s dollars and cents than Anthony Eden, for Joseph learned and lived by this knowledge. He never duns his customers. When they are long overdue in payment, Joseph sits alone and mentally writes a letter thanking the man for the receipt of his check - and within four days he receives it. If poverty would teach this lesson to everyone, all should be born equally poor.557 ¶10

Joseph now lives in an apartment in New York City where he pays $12,000 a year in rent as well as $45,000 a year rent for his street business. He now has businesses in Paris, Puerto Rico, and Brazil, for he learned how to move. Leaving Russia at the age of sixteen, Joseph found a job driving a garbage truck in France, where - seemingly by accident - he met the great dancer, Anna Pavlova. She suggested he follow in his father’s footsteps and make undergarments for women, which he did and is now famous for.557 ¶11

I am asking you to do as Joseph did, for I am teaching you a principle, and leave you to your choice and its risk. I have told this story in the past and there has always been someone in the audience who has criticized me for telling it, claiming I am leading people astray. I have always had a suspicion, however, that those who are most vocal in their criticism are justifying their own behavior. I am not urging you to forget all these so-called codes, but to tell you that we all ate of the tree of good and evil, and have suffered ever since.557 ¶12

I am not suggesting you go out and steal from anyone, or that Joseph should - as some have suggested - pay the money back. If he did, to whom would he send it, to Stalin? Well, Stalin stole the entire country, not just a few coins as Joseph did. No, Joseph has given tens of thousands of dollars to help friends and charities, not to justify his act as a child, but out of the goodness of his heart.557 ¶13

Tonight I give you a principle: God is the great artist, who - as your own wonderful human imagination - is perfecting his work through the ages in the making of his own image in you. Do you have an image? Name it. Now, are you willing to simply assume that you have it, and wait for its objectification? Every image has its own appointed hour to ripen and flower. If it be long, wait, for its appearance is sure and will not be late. Are you willing to wait for the happiness you now seek, or are you going to try to go on the outside and make it so?557 ¶14

If you are willing to apply this principle and let it happen, you will become the successful businessman, doctor, minister, or whatever you desire to be. If you will assume your desire and live there as though it were true, no power on earth can stop it from becoming a fact, because you are God and your only opponent is yourself. There is nothing but God, but man - not knowing this - creates opposition and calls it Satan or the devil, both of which are just as nonexistent as St. Christopher. Millions believe in them and give them power they do not possess. But I urge you to believe in nothing but God, who is your own wonderful human Imagination.557 ¶15

In time you will depart this world, certainly. This is a world of death, so why remain here forever? You will play your part here, while God forms his image in you. And when that image is complete, you will awaken to be born from above. Then the child will appear to signal your birth and fulfill the promise recorded in the Book of Isaiah: “Unto us a child is born.” Five months later, God’s son is given to you as a sign that the image is now perfect. When you look into the face of your son, David, you will see yourself as the eternal youth. You are now God the Father, and he is your Son who glorifies you. If you could see yourself matured, you would see the Ancient of Days, whose son is his image yet eternally young. That image is now being formed in you and in time will become objectified.557 ¶16

So have faith, which is nothing more than the subjective appropriation of your objective hope. Set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you when the Christ Spirit stands before you and calls you Father. In the 4th chapter of Galatians, Paul tells of Christ’s formation, and questions himself, saying: “I see you are worshiping days and months, seasons and years; I’m afraid I have labored over you in vain.” When I see a man I thought had outgrown these little concepts, turn back to images and days, months, seasons, and years, and call them holy - when there is no such thing in God’s kingdom - I feel like Paul, that my labor has been in vain.557 ¶17

Every moment of time is holy and wherever you stand is holy. It may be a bar, but it is a holy place, because you are there. Others may say it is wrong, but I ask you: who is standing there? God, and wherever God is, is holy ground.557 ¶18

This is true of every person in the world, but they do not know it. They think they must leave those they love and rush off to church on Sunday morning, and if they don’t make it on time they have violated God’s wish. But God wishes you would stay home and love your family, and if that one day you could ease the burden of your wife with the children, do it. If you can’t do it as well as she does through the week, do it to the best of your ability. She will understand and be blessed for your trying to ease her burden for the moment. That is far better than rushing off to some church and praying to gods which do not exist.557 ¶19

I am not telling you not to go to church; some people enjoy the comfort and the friendships found there. They enjoy the coffee hour after the meeting - perhaps more than the service. Many hope to meet a mate there, but that is not what I am talking about.557 ¶20

I am telling you of the great artist. His name is I AM, for he is your own wonderful awareness of being. On this level of Caesar, follow the same pattern the highest level of our awareness of being is doing. As the collective unity, together we had an image. Our image was to make man like us. Then we became enslaved in this deadly dream and now suffer amnesia. But the Heavenly Man that we truly are will not break his pledge. He remains bound by his deadly dreams of good and evil until he forms his image in himself. Every state you choose to enter will be recorded and added up, while He remains faithful to that divine image; and when the image appears, you will see David - the anointed, Christed one.557 ¶21

I have found my anointed, my chosen one, my first-born, and he has called me Father. He has called me God, the Rock of his salvation. This is true, for I brought him into being. Now I can depart in peace, for I have done exactly what I promised myself to do in the beginning of time.557 ¶22

It has been taught us from the primal state, that he which is, was wish until he were. I wished to make man in my own image. I did not deviate from my wish but kept that vision before me constantly, no matter what I did in the lower levels of my being. I made it all add up, for all things work for good to him who loves the Lord, who is the individual’s highest being.557 ¶23

Tonight, every wish of your heart is possible to attain. Let no one tell you what you ought to wish, for all things are yours to appropriate now.557 ¶24

A friend shared a series of her visions with me. She wants to be a composer and I will tell her right now: you can be as great as you wish to be. In one of her visions she found herself in the company of Chopin, who was showing her how to compose. They seemed to be walking above a body of water, and as she looked, the water was not only the subject but the inspiration of the composition. This young girl, now only in her teens, shared this fantastic vision with me.557 ¶25

In another dream she was told to read the Book of Numbers. Well, it is in the 12th chapter of Numbers that we are told that God speaks to you in dreams and makes himself known in vision. When vision breaks out into speech, the presence of deity is affirmed. In her vision the spirit of Chopin was telling her (even though she did not see his face) how to compose.557 ¶26

You do not see the face right away. In fact, the real face you will not see until the son appears. Just prior to that you will see the Risen Lord and fuse with him. And when his son appears, you will see yourself, made young. David is the image of the being who fuses with you, only young. He - an eternal youth - is your son, who has always done your will.557 ¶27

In my friend’s vision she is with Chopin. Being by nature a pianist, what better instructor could she have? She is being spiritually instructed, for she is the spirit of Chopin, as in the depth of her soul they are one.557 ¶28

Whatever your inspiration may be, you will draw to yourself that which you have assumed you want to be. If in your mind’s eye a certain person is great and you want to be as great as he is, you will draw him out of yourself to instruct you. You are only instructing yourself, however, for every vision takes place within the human imagination. “All that you behold, though it appears without, it is within your imagination of which this world of mortality is but a shadow.”557 ¶29

Choose an image you would like to express. Feel you are that image. So appropriate it that it must come forth in your world of shadows. Do that and you are praying, for prayer is your own wonderful human imagination, drenched with feeling. I could tell you story after story after story of those who have drenched themselves with the feeling of having their desire, and getting it. Feel the wedding ring, if that is your desire. Feel the thrill of applause, or the joy of a child in your arms. Anything is possible if you can feel it; but if you are going to use reason it will never happen, because failure becomes your image. You don’t realize it but there are two of you, and it is your deeper self that tells you it can’t happen. But no real belief can ever be suppressed for long, for your inward conviction must find some external objective habitation, and it will.557 ¶30

What is your deep conviction tonight? What is the true image you believe yourself to be? Is it that you are a failure or a success? If you believe the headlines of the paper you will be frightened, for they thrive on crisis. Do you know there are people who only write headlines? Good news is always put on the tenth page, but if the news is frightening it will find front page print. Our boys are on their way to the moon tonight. Their trip made the first page today, but if something violent happens tomorrow, the violent act will get the headlines and not our exciting trip to the moon. Ignore the headlines and remain faithful to your image.557 ¶31

What do you really want? Don’t try to tell me that it is going to be difficult, because your very words block its fulfillment. Can you believe all things are possible to God? No one would have bet one nickel on me when I left the little island of Barbados at the age of seventeen, having voiced a desire to be a minister of the word of God. Unschooled as I was (and still am, in the formal sense of the word) who would believe the word of God would be revealed to me?557 ¶32

But my one consuming desire was to have a true vision, because I knew that a man becomes what he beholds. I didn’t want the vision to be false, even if it was given to me by some giant with many degrees, because I would be accepting the vision he follows. I wanted truth to be revealed to me, for if it is true that a man becomes what he beholds, then I wanted to behold truth, that I would become it - and I have. When I tell you of David, I speak from revealed truth, and not from something I found in a book. Rabbis, ministers, and priests deny my words, because they are not what they were taught. They bring their own prefabricated misconceptions of scripture to scripture, and cannot understand the words of one who has witnessed the truth of God’s word.557 ¶33

I found the truth, as Paul did. It did not come from a man nor was I taught it by a man, but it came through a revelation, which was the unveiling of God within me. That unveiling occurred when I was confronted by and fused with the Risen Lord.557 ¶34

While you are here do not neglect Caesar’s world. You have to pay rent, buy food and clothing. Don’t let anyone tell you this is sordid; you must do it while you are here. You must render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s. Forget the concept that Jesus got food from out of the air, for it is not true. The man in whom the pattern awoke labored as you and I do; and if you think I am being foolish about it, read the first two verses of the 8th chapter of Luke, where it states that he was supported by three women “from their own substance.” When Paul began to tell the visions as they unfolded in him, he said: “I earn my own bread.” He didn’t get any bread out of the atmosphere, but labored as a man, while he tried to persuade everyone that they would awaken to discover they were God, and all that is said of Him in the gospel they would personally experience.557 ¶35

I am telling you what I know from experience. I am not theorizing. I am not speculating. I hope you will so believe me, that when I depart this world, you will not forget my message.557 ¶36

May I tell you: you may think you have wavered in the forming of that image you set out to do in the beginning, but you have not; for the depth of your being and my being are one, and that brotherhood has never once faltered. He agreed in the beginning to dream this dream of life, in concert. This we have done and will continue to do until the image is formed in each one of us.557 ¶37

Now let us go into the silence.557 ¶38

Holding to Our Faith

We are told to examine ourselves to see whether we are holding to our faith. “Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?” . Faith is not complete until through the testing and until through the experiment it has become experience. When I’ve tested it and proven by the testing in my own experience that it works, well then, I have the faith. Now, I’m testing Christ…and Christ is in me. I must first find what he is, where he is, who he is, and if he is in me. I’m not called upon to test anything that is the tradition of man, something on the outside, just that which is within.553 ¶1

You might have heard tonight’s radio broadcast that the Vatican has just rubbed out forty of its saints as non-existent. Hundreds of millions of people over the years prayed to these saints. One of them was St. Christopher. When you think of the hundreds of millions who bought the little St. Christopher’s medal, and the little icon, the little figurine that they carry in front of their car, because he was the saint of the road, of the traveler. If you go into battle you wear the little thing around your neck and he would save you, because you are travelling now from home. If you took the highways, you took this little thing with you and some priest blessed it. They just discovered that he never existed. Our city of Santa Barbara was named after St. Barbara; she is now deleted as one who never existed. So, now they’ll tell you that that’s why we’re all broke…because she did not exist…a non-existing being to whom hundreds of millions over the years prayed.553 ¶2

If you read scripture carefully and do not go along with the herd, you will see there is no intermediary between yourself and God, none whatsoever. No need for a saint, a priest, a minister, a truth teacher, or any so-called healer. You need no intermediary between yourself and God: “Christ in you is the hope of glory” . So examine yourselves to see whether you are holding to this faith. “Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?” Then we start to put it to the test. I have found from my own testing and experience that this creative power called Jesus Christ is my own wonderful human Imagination. That is Christ in every being in the world. It is this Christ that creates everything in the world…good, bad or indifferent .553 ¶3

Now tonight we will turn to the 14th chapter of the Book of John. It begins, “Let not your heart be troubled.” You’ll find this statement repeated in a different way over and over by the master of souls, which is Christ in you. The awakened Christ in you is Christ awake and he discovers that the bane of man’s existence is fear. He said, “Fear not. Be not afraid, be not troubled.” If we could abolish fear from our life, there would be no need whatsoever for any psychotherapy. None whatsoever for any tyrant; tyrants could not exist. For a tyrant to come into our world he must first scare us to death and he may do that by slaughtering hundreds of thousands, even millions. When he puts that fear into us, then he has us. If man did not care if he died now this very moment, or any friend of his died, or his family died, and he remained un-scared, there could be no tyrant in the world. Tyranny can exist only as he first scared the world. The world must be scared. That goes for all the tyranny in the world whether it was Hitler’s Germany, or Stalin’s Russia, or it could happen here as it happens on a small scale. And so, all over the world, if you would be a tyrant you must first scare people and make them afraid of you. There’s that little morning knock on the door, and they disappear never to return, and then it spreads, and you frighten people. So he said, “Be not afraid. Be not anxious. Fear not.”553 ¶4

So this chapter begins, “Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe in me also. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am there ye may be also” . Now the place you know and the way you know. Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” And he answered, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes unto me, my Father, except by me…no one comes to my Father except by me” . Then Philip said to him, “Show us the Father, and we’ll be satisfied.” He said, “I have been so long with you and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’” .553 ¶5

Now here, let us take it on this level first and then take it into the other level. “In my Father’s house are many mansions.” The word translated mansions means “to stay in a certain place or state or relation or expectancy, to abide in it as thine own.” We’ll take it now, there are infinite states in the world, unnumbered states, and a state is your relation to the world. You enter a state and that state could become your home, a place where you abide, or it could be simply something you pass through momentarily. But it is a state, it’s a relation. What would I feel like relative to my circle of friends were I now the man that I would like to be and I hope that they as my friends would like me to be? Well then, I assume that I am it. Then mentally I see them as I would see them if it were true. I simply see them just as I would see them if it were true. Now, can I abide in that state? For the word simply means “to stay in a certain place, a certain relation, a certain expectancy.” But I must abide in it.553 ¶6

When I leave here tonight, I expect to go home to the place that I left an hour ago…I expect to go back there. At the moment, this is more real than my home that is an image, a mental image; this is real, it’s solid. But I’m going to go back tonight to that home. Well, what is a man’s home?—the state to which he most constantly returns. Do I return to the state as seeing you seeing me as the man I would like to be? Or do I take it as just a passing fancy and then drop it? Do I abide in it? For that state to which I most constantly return constitutes my abiding place, my home, my dwelling place. So I will simply imagine that I am now the man that I would like to be and see my world as I would see it if it were true. I’m going into that state and preparing a place.553 ¶7

Now there are the two: Christ in me is speaking to the outside Neville, the rational being, and Christ in me, my own wonderful human Imagination, is saying, “I’m going to prepare a place for you.” You are afraid aren’t you that you can’t meet certain obligations. All things are done! But now I will go and prepare the place for you. And so I close my physical eyes upon the world and let not my heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid; all things are possible to Christ and Christ is in me. He will now prepare the state and the way, for he is the way to the fulfillment of that state. I close my eyes against the obvious, the facts of life, and then I dare to assume I am seeing and hearing what I would see and hear if it were true.553 ¶8

But, I must tune it fine like a radio. You turn on a radio and there are four or five stations coming through, you throw the whole thing off, and you can’t stand the confusion. It must be fine tuning…fine tuning not only on the radio but on a TV. Well, there is no set in this world comparable to you who made the set. How can that which mind creates be greater than the mind that created it? So we get amazed at the perfection of a little instrument called a radio. Take it out…no wire connects it with anything in the world, a little battery, and out of the nowhere it is coming. We stand amazed at this little thing and the mind that is amazed created it. The mind is infinitely greater than what it created. Then we came upon the visual side of it. Now we can take that out without wires to connect it. When the wire connected it, we had a peculiar feeling that some other power is coming out there. Then we take it off the ground, carry it in our hand, there’s no connection and a picture comes through and it’s perfect. We don’t want that, we turn another one, turn another…and at this moment in this little room everything that is being broadcast and telecast in the world is right here now. We haven’t tuned in…and we have an instrument infinitely greater than anything that the mind that created the instrument could ever create. The mind that created it is infinitely greater.553 ¶9

So, do you know a man’s voice who is a friend, one who would truly rejoice with you in your good fortune? Tune him in until you get a fine tune, and that’s the voice, the only voice you want to hear, and let him tell you his thrill because of your good fortune. Actively listen until you actually hear that voice. May I tell you, if you’re tuning in a very fine manner you will hear it. But, imagine that you are hearing it; and to prove that you are hearing it, you can discriminate between what you think you are hearing and another voice. Even though it’s not yet audible, it is in the depth of your being audible. Well, tune it in and let it become very, very fine. Listen carefully to the sentence that you put upon that voice and you are actually hearing what you would hear if it were true. Now believe in the reality of this unseen sound, unheard sound by the outer ear. Believe in this reality. If you do, you are living by this faith.553 ¶10

You see, it’s so easy and yet so fatally easy to make the acceptance of the Christian faith a substitute for living by it. Tonight, after the pope’s decision to cut off forty of these so-called saints, do you know the turmoil in the Catholic world? In my family half of them are Catholic. I do hope that my Protestant brothers who did not marry the Catholic girls will be big enough not to mention it. Of course, they’ll read it in tomorrow morning’s paper…but not to hurt them. For they all wear these medals. I’m quite sure that not one of my sister-in-law’s children who are Catholics could travel without Christopher around their necks…and now he never existed. Well, it takes the Christian spirit not to mention it. Don’t mention it to her…she is hurt enough. But here, it never was and she spent a goodly sum giving each their little medals and giving each one for the front of the car and to carry around in a little bag when they travel.553 ¶11

I recall about twenty or thirty years ago when I first came here I went to a home of this Catholic family and my wife said to me, “Now don’t be concerned. They’re ardent Catholics. They don’t care anything about you, because you are not saved. Because you’re a Protestant you’re damned. Therefore, you can enjoy yourself in the pool and have fun…and they loved my father devotedly. They were mad about him…but he too wasn’t saved because he was a Protestant. We’ll go there and enjoy a good dinner and a lovely time at the pool.” Each, as they jumped into that pool, the three boys had a St. Christopher medal. One who was three years into the priesthood when he quit and went into the Army came back without the capacity to hear. One came back without a foot. And one without an arm…he was crushed by one of our own tanks on the beaches in the Pacific. The other came back with TB. But they all had their little medals. Here they’re discussing at the pool that without this medal they would have died. It would have been far better if they did…to come back maimed like that. They thought their belief in St. Christopher…now tonight, what’s happened to that family? He never existed.553 ¶12

The only Christ that ever existed is your own wonderful human Imagination, there never was another. When in one being it awakes to discover all that was foretold in scripture is taking place in itself, then it knew who the power really was…and told the story. Some believed him and some did not believe. Then those who heard and believed it wrote the story, wrote it in the form of a story, because truth embodied in a tale shall enter in at lowly doors. Truth is far more acceptable if told in the form of a story. So they told it in the form of a story and we have the four stories in the gospels. If they told it as it really should have been told—one day we will be big enough to hear it without the story form to support it—that it’s all within man.553 ¶13

It was foretold and recorded in the Old Testament, but not understood by those who recorded it. The prophets who actually prophesied of the coming of Messiah searched and inquired concerning this grace that was to be ours, and it was revealed to them that it was not for them to know. The time had not yet come. It was for us. When the time had been fulfilled, the horrors had been fulfilled, then it began to erupt in the individual. What was buried in us before that the world was begins at a moment in time to erupt. The whole thing erupts in us. Everything said of Jesus Christ you are going to know is said of you; that the whole vast book is all about you.553 ¶14

Now, before it actually happens you put it to the test. If Christ is your own wonderful human Imagination, as we’re taught in scripture, “All things were made by him” , and it didn’t say only the good. You can imagine the unlovely things of this world and the unlovely thing imagined is going to be made, and that’s Christ making it…because there is no other creator. To say that Christ makes only the good and devil makes only the evil…the devil is just as phony as Christopher. He never existed save in man’s doubt. When one doubts the power of Christ in him that is the devil. “Unless you believe that I am he, you die in your sins” …unless you actually believe that I AM is the he that you are seeking and pray only to him by exercising him. That’s the only power in the world. So what would it be like? What would I hear? What would I see? What would I do if what I would like to experience in this world I am hearing, seeing and experiencing? Put him to the test. If this is true, what you tell me is true concerning my Imagination, well then, I should be able to prove it in the not distant future. All right, I call upon you to try it. Costs you nothing…you pay no intermediary between yourself and God. There’s no one waiting for a five dollar bill tomorrow morning that you call up tonight and ask to help you. You don’t go between anyone and God. Now test it. If you test it you’ll prove it in performance and then you’ll know who Christ is.553 ¶15

Now, “No one comes unto the Father except by me.” I’m going to tell you exactly how you’re going to come to the Father. It’s not spelled out in scripture, it’s implied, and one has to search. I didn’t search until it happened to me, because I was taught, as all of my brothers and my sister were, by my mother first, then Sunday school second, and then the regular grammar school, high school, third. I was taught what the world Christian world is taught and that’s not the story at all. So I’ll tell you exactly how you’ll go to the Father. One day you’re going to find a lad, as told you in the 16th chapter of the Book of 1st Samuel, a lad chosen by God to be his Son. You’re told first of all he’s ruddy with beautiful eyes and very handsome, a lad in his early teens. And the day you meet him—not only the day you meet him, the very moment you meet him—you know exactly who he is; and only then do you know who you are. The very moment you encounter him you’re looking right into the eyes of the Son of God, and you are his Father. Then and only then do you really know that you are God the Father.553 ¶16

So, “No one comes unto the Father except by me” and “I and my Father are one.” As he tells us in the 10th chapter, the 30th verse of the Book of John, “I and my Father are one.” In the 14th of John, the 6th verse he said, “I am the one through whom you come to the Father.” Then in the next verse he makes the statement, “I have been so long with you and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How then can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” He is one with the Father. So union with Christ is the only way to the Father. You’re one with Christ: “He who is united to the Christ is one spirit with him” . So you are united to the Lord and he takes you the only way you’ll ever go to find the Father: he brings out David.553 ¶17

You’re told in the 89th Psalm, “I have found David and he has cried unto me, ‘Thou art my Father, my God and the Rock of my salvation.’” A simple little word like “found” you take it on its surface. I found…all right, I found something. Well, look it up and see what it means. It means “to bring forth, to actually bring forth one that has been hiding.” “He put eternity, the eternal youth, into the mind of man yet so that man cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end” . In the end you bring him forth and he’s been hiding there all along, because you’ll never know that you are God the Father until you bring him out. When you bring him forth, he stands before you and calls you Father. Who is he? The one to whom the Lord said and then he recalls and records what the Lord said to him, “I will tell of the decree of the Lord: He said unto me, ‘Thou art my son, today I have begotten thee.’” Read it in the 2nd Psalm, the 7th verse. These are the words of David, he said, I will tell of the decree of the Lord: He said unto me, ‘Thou art my son, today I have begotten thee.’553 ¶18

Then comes that moment at the end of the journey when you bring him out from hiding. Where was he?—in your own skull. For that’s the area that exploded and when everything settled and you are seated, where do you think you are seated? He is standing leaning against the side of an open door looking out on a pastoral scene, but he’s leaning with his left shoulder against the side of an open door. He is looking at you and you are his Father; you are to his right: “The Lord is at my right hand…I shall not fail.” You are at his right hand and the story is “The Lord is at my right hand.” You are the Lord, the Lord God Almighty.553 ¶19

So, the story is the truest story ever told. But men, for the traditions of their fathers, have voided the Word of God and built this stupid edifice called saints. This one becomes a saint…and about 100 are up for sainthood…every little neighborhood pushes someone into this place for a saint. What man on earth can make a saint? The only saints are the redeemed and no one could ever put them up. What saints? The redeemed of humanity are the saints who form the body of the risen Lord; but everyone is destined for that redemption, not one will be lost. So why pick this one out and that one out and call them saints and then add to it beings that never existed?553 ¶20

Can you see the blushes on tomorrow’s faces when you meet your friends? And they’ll read the morning paper. It will undoubtedly be in the morning paper. You go into an office where you know this one has been praying for years to St. Christopher and Santa Barbara. Of course, they also added to it St. Nicholas…poor old Santa Claus…he is gone now. St. Nicholas is off the list, never existed. Now you can’t tell that to little children. They’ve built the whole thing up anyway. What the other thirty are, there are thirty nonexistent and ten that didn’t quite come up to the…or fifteen…didn’t quite come up to the specifications. And mortal men without vision are appointing themselves to judge saints when it hasn’t a thing to do with anything on earth.553 ¶21

You could be a drunkard in the road, you could smoke and it comes through your ears, you could be a chaser of all the men and women in the world, male or female, and yet believe in him. It hasn’t a thing to do with the ethical code of man, not a thing to do with it. It’s entirely up to the being having gone through the entire gamut. And when you have played all the parts and only the God in you who is Jesus Christ knows that you’ve played it all, and when you’ve run the race, you’ve finished the race, you’ve fought the good fight and you’ve kept the faith, then the crown of righteousness is laid up for you, and then you’ll awaken from the dream of life . Having awakened from the dream of life, you are the saint, the redeemed. But your friends know you as the bounder…and they don’t believe that such a thing could be a saint. They have the strangest concept of what this creative power is.553 ¶22

When Browning said in his Reverie, “From the first, power was I knew. Try but for a closer view, love was as plain to see.” Power was from the very beginning and that I knew, and yet from the very beginning prior to power was love, and it’s just as plain to see if you would strive for a closer view. Well, in my own case, striving for it could not have revealed it to me. It had to be revealed to me by the one in me who unveiled himself as love. God in me unveiled himself as love…the Ancient of Days. And yet he wore another garment who commanded me and that garment was power, Almighty God. He wore both; he wore power and he wore love. We will exercise power in the world to come because we are love. To give us power here before we are incorporated into the body of love would wreck havoc in the world.553 ¶23

But there is love, God is love, infinite love, and God is power, almighty power; and that God of whom I speak is sitting right here in everyone that is here. You are the God Almighty and you are the God of love…but the God of love in you has not completed the journey. All parts must be played, and when he completes the journey he unveils himself to you his emanation; and then he embraces you into his own being, and you cease to be another, and you are one with the living God. Then you tell your story in the world to all who will listen. Some will believe it and some will disbelieve it, but you keep on telling it anyway until that moment in time when he takes off the garment for the last time and you are one with the risen Lord. The risen Lord is made up of all the redeemed of humanity, and in the end when all are redeemed this being that was before the world was is more powerful, more wise and more glorious. It’s a constant expansion of power, wisdom and glory. This was the being by which he could expand the power and the glory and the wisdom.553 ¶24

So tonight, learn how to tune it in a fine, fine manner…you’ll know. Some of you are musicians and you deal in music, and you know how it grates you—others who are not so finely tuned it would not disturb them—but even they know how disturbing it is to go to a concert and have someone sit in front of us or behind us or next to us and they’re singing a little ahead to prove to you they know what’s coming next. Or they’re doing this, tapping, with a stick or something, beating out something for you. Insensitive! I may not be tuned that fine to what others in this audience tonight are, but I do appreciate music. So leave me alone with my being to hear what’s coming.553 ¶25

Well now, I can tell a voice and tune in on that voice until I hear it. If I hear that voice then I can put upon that voice the sentence I want that voice to utter. Now, can I believe in that? Can I actually test it by believing in it? Can I actually believe in what I’m hearing? For, faith is simply belief in the unseen reality, something that is not shared with anyone other than yourself, you heard it, so you believe in that unseen reality, and look upon it as something that is real. If you can, it will come to pass.553 ¶26

When you will say? Every imaginal act is like an egg, and no two eggs unless they are from the same species have the same interval of time for hatching. So the little bird comes out in three weeks and the little sheep comes out in five months, the horse in twelve, and a human baby comes out in nine months. So we are told, “The vision has its own appointed hour; it ripens, it will flower. If it be long, then wait; for it is sure, it will not be late” . Not late for itself. Don’t expect that little lamb, because it’s being brought to birth in the same creative manner as a little chicken, will come out in three weeks. It’s going to take its five months and the little human baby’s going to take nine months. If you know the moment…well, 280 days…can you tell when it began? It’s going to be 280 days unless there is some premature birth that happens. But you don’t want a premature birth…you want it to come on time. So an imaginal act is a creative act and that’s when the seed or the state was fertilized. Now it’s going to take its interval of time.553 ¶27

Now today, you assume that you are the man, the woman that you would like to be and actually assume that you are it. Let people in your mind’s eye reflect the truth of your assumption. Now, be faithful to it. Persist in it, as we are told, persistency is the way to bring it to pass. But you don’t persist through effort and through fear, because you lose all fear if you know it’s going to happen. If the pressure is on you, and the pressures come from all sides, it doesn’t matter if you know what you did is a fact. You wait for the birth of it. It will come!553 ¶28

Now a friend of mine wrote me a letter which she gave me last Monday. In it, I won’t go into all the details, she found herself walking down the street holding a fish and the fish was still, like a dead fish; but she could see its pulse, therefore, it still had life. She found a little cup in which she placed water and put it in the water. Then, as happens in a dream, it jumped out and it was lost again…but she found it. This time she put it in a bigger area where you would keep fish. And then two catfish attacked it from each side, bit it, wounded it, and it fell to the bottom. It seemed to be in its last stages of, well, gasping for its life. She reached down into the very bottom of that area and pulled it up. Then she had to make a long journey, so she got a glass bowl and she didn’t realize there were holes in it. A man couldn’t wait, he was in a hurry, so she put it on the side. When she got to the point of getting off, she went around to collect the fish, and this time it’s a little minnow. Well, what to do? She took this little fish and then all of a sudden she began to feel responsible for the fish…she felt the whole thing depended upon her for its existence. And then she began to awake and a voice said to her—and it’s her own voice though it was a male voice, and she’s very much a girl—she heard a male voice saying to her “O my God.” Then she woke.553 ¶29

Now, her analysis is a true analysis what she said in her letter to me. But for the benefit of you, everything contains within itself the capacity for symbolic significance, but everything. A fish has always been one of the symbols of the savior of the world. The savior of the world is your own wonderful human Imagination. The very one that throws you into the ditch will take you out of the ditch because you had to imagine yourself into it to go into it, and you imagine yourself out of it to get out. So the savior of the world is your own wonderful human Imagination. By finding this little fish that was almost dead and then she resuscitated it, and then it was attacked by the catfish and then it almost died again, she by her own confession knows that human Imagination, which is her Creator, the savior of the world, that she has neglected it.553 ¶30

Living in a rational world you turn to reason first and get lost in the maze of reasoning: How will it ever work? I don’t know this one or that one, I’m of this age, I’m of that age, and all these things take us out of feeding Jesus Christ…Christ being your own human Imagination, and all things are possible to Christ. If we would ignore the facts of life and simply walk in the imaginal act which is the wish fulfilled then we are feeding Christ. So this was only to warn her…a warning by her own being, who is Christ within her, that she had been neglecting him. Here you know what to do and here you haven’t done it. So she knows the fish symbolizes the savior within her and she has neglected to exercise this power by giving all attention to reason and rationalizing everything in the outer world, when she should ignore everything and walk in the assumption of the wish fulfilled. Though at the moment her reason denies it and her senses deny it, that assumption if persisted in will harden into fact. So at least she recognized that she has neglected to feed this power within her. It can’t die even though it was stiff and the stiff fish is the dead fish. It still had a pulse even though it got smaller to the point of a minnow; nevertheless, it came back. Then it was attacked from both sides…reason again attacking it…telling her that she’s stupid to put faith in such a thing; because, it’s so easy to accept the Christian faith and use it only as a substitute for living by it. So, one must live by it.553 ¶31

I had that experience in the form of another symbol of Jesus Christ which is a pig. The pig is the symbol of him. I found myself this night in a huge display of flowers and trees and everything that grows. Then as it was closing and I was alone I realized I must get out now because it’s just about to close. This was one of those lovely displays for a day. As I was about to leave, I looked down and here was this little runt of a pig, small little fella. So I picked him up and I put him on a card table, not much taller than this. I took branches from the trees, flowers, all the things to cushion him. I couldn’t find any food, but I figured if he got hungry in the course of the night he could eat the leaves, eat something because this was edible, and tomorrow morning, when this place was open to display the merchandise again, whoever came first to find the pig would feed him.553 ¶32

As happens in a dream, suddenly the scene shifted and from the interior of this huge big display of all the things that grow I’m in a huge big supermarket. My family owns the supermarket. Here at my side is a pig. He’s grown in stature but he’s thin, not at all well fed, tall and thin. I realize that he’s my pig. I turn to my little daughter—she was then a little girl in my dream—and I said, “Vicki, go and get me some crackers to feed my pig.” She said, “Daddy, I don’t have any money.” I said, “But you don’t need money here…we own it all…all of this belongs to us. Go and take all the crackers you want for my pig. You can bring them to me.” She went over to a huge big pile of crackers that were simply laid in the form of a pyramid, and she took it from the base instead of the top and dislodged the whole pyramid. Down it came, the whole thing fell. So, she brought me a cracker, that is, a box or two. I started breaking them up. My brother Victor came by and said, “What are you doing?” I said, “I’m getting some food for my pig.” Well, he took from a paper bag what looked like a white creamy gravy, and took his hands this way and said, “This will give substance to it,” putting three huge handfuls of this white gravy into what I was breaking up as food. With this, a little candle where she had taken the entire pyramid began to go up in flames. Under this pyramid was a little candle. Then I said to Vicky, “Don’t touch it. Now the candle is lit and it must never go out again.” Then came the words from scripture: “And his candle was lit upon my forehead and by his light I walk through darkness.” “And the candle of the Lord is the spirit of man, or the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord” .553 ¶33

So here, the candle was lit now. I recognized that I had neglected what I had discovered, for prior to this vision I had discovered that my Imagination is God. He was the only God who ever existed. And yet, in spite of my discovery I didn’t feed it. I kept applying the rational approach to life where everything had to be rational…things planned on a reasonable basis. Here I found a power that didn’t need reason, that it could do anything without reason, and I neglected to feed it…I neglected to exercise it. So the symbol of that power was the pig and though he had grown in the interval he was still thin and he wasn’t well fed. I determined when I saw that light, from then on I would not let that light go out or get dim…I will feed this pig.553 ¶34

The pig only symbolizes the being in me that is Jesus Christ. For Paul said, “I want you to refer to me hereafter as a steward of the mysteries” . Do you know what the word steward means in scripture?—“the keeper of the sty, the keeper of the pigs,” that’s what it means. So when we are told to follow the work of the dishonest steward who falsified the record, the word steward means “the keeper of the pigs.” So I’m supposed to keep the pig. To be a steward of the mysteries I must feed this pig so that I know what I’m talking about. So I must exercise this power morning, noon and night and not neglect it.553 ¶35

If you give a man who knows this power a million dollars and it is well invested and he doesn’t have to work, he’s going to neglect the feeding of the pig because he has it all. He will say, “Now I have all the money that I need so why exercise any power? I’ll sit and clip my coupons.” He will completely neglect the pig and he will go right down and become a very thin pig. Then one day he will see that his neglect presented itself to him for him to see what he had done to the power within him—he hadn’t exercised it.553 ¶36

Well, you who are musicians or you are in a business where you must apply a certain talent, the day you stop practicing it is the day lost. You stop it for a week and you know whether you be a singer or a violinist or a pianist you aren’t qualified to give a concert. Not until you keep this thing tuned up day after day after day are you really prepared and qualified for a concert. So this is something that is daily practiced. But if you had a fortune, you would neglect it and you would not be qualified to teach it or tell anyone anything about it. Because what would they think if Rockefeller told them tonight to imagine it when he inherited a billion dollars? You’d say…I won’t tell you what you’d say. What would you say to anyone who has inherited—and didn’t earn it—a billion dollars? What does he know about Imagination? What does he know? But those who haven’t an enormous inheritance and have to apply the Imagination towards the production of fruit upon his tree he knows. That one is becoming more and more qualified for the last, which is the discovery of Christ within him who is God the Father, who comes only through the Son, David, who stands before him and he knows exactly who he’s looking at.553 ¶37

Now let us go into the Silence. * * *553 ¶38

Now are there any questions, please? No questions? Then thank you.553 ¶39

Motifs in the talk
